6/11/2026 UPDATE ON FBI ARRESTS AND RAIDES -- URGENT AID NEEDED: While we continued to fight for Palestine liberation on campus, On June 10th between 7:00 AM and 8:30 AM, FBI agents, state police, local police officers, and the University of Michigan Police Department, conducted a coordinated raid and arrest of 8 activists across Ann Arbor, Canton, Milwaukee, and Chicago. The FBI and local police violently raided all of the major locations with the Ypsilanti location’s doors and windows being damaged. Personal belongings of the targeted residents were also seized during the final examinations. By 5:00 PM EST, out of the 8 defendants, 3 were released on bond and now 5 are still in custody until their Detention Hearing on June 12th at 1:00 PM. These charges are both reprehensible and have clearly shown the federal government and the University’s goal to preserve their ability to support Israel and both its continued genocide in Palestine, Lebanon, and its war with Iran.

Open-ended powers and social media ban for children under 16 in Bill C-34, the Social Media Safety Act, threaten civil liberties.
Yesterday, the federal government introduced Bill C-34, the Safe Social Media Act, with the stated goal of making the online activities of Canadians safer. The bill raises significant civil liberties concerns, including through the limitless powers it grants the government and a new digital safety regulator. “Greater transparency and accountability from tech companies is long overdue. But that must come through clear, targeted rules, not sweeping obligations and an open-ended government authority over any regulated service,” said Howard Sapers, Executive Director at the Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA). “A blank check for federal power is the wrong answer to a real problem.” “Bill C-34 introduces obligations which are so alarmingly broad that providers of regulated services will be tempted to over-comply at the expense of users’ freedom of expression and privacy rights,” Sapers added.

"Dogwhistles" are called that based on real "dog whistles", many of which are pitched too high to be audible to most humans, but are still perfectly audible to dogs.
Rhetorical dogwhistles are things that most people would not be able to identify as bigoted because they're INTENDED to have plausible deniability.
The wording changes are meant to be subtle enough that people really can mix them up accidentally when they don't have much information!
So when the gender critical movement calls trans women "transwomen", they're hoping for 2 things.
this usage will spread enough among people who don't know any better, to give transphobes the plausible deniability of not LOOKING like a frothing bigot constantly.
the usage grammatically places trans women in a different category than other women; it's changing "trans" from an adjective to part of a noun to make this distinction.
The more we can avoid this usage, the less deniability have transmisogynists have when using it, and the less rhetorical ground we cede to the degendering and misgendering of trans women.
I don't actually think ceding this ground is LESS divisive than pointing it out politely.
Since Thursday our politicians have been trying to rush the 'Kids Online Safety Act' (KOSA) and SCREEN acts alongside 15 other bills through committee in order to censor the internet while lying about it being for child safety. It was such laws that allowed the UK, Australia, and Europe to become the hellholes they are where youre arrested for mean posts.
Sadly, our same leaders are also trying to repeal Section 230 alongside these bills. What Section 230 does, in simple terms, is categorize stuff you make online as part of your freedom of speech.
If they aren't stopped they will strip that from you. Be wary.

However, that line of thinking is because these types of people are unaware that they need to give their id to prove they are not a kid. Thus doxxing themselves. Australia at least described what is under their ban, yet the u.k. does not specify and vaguely says any platform with direct messaging and public posts. So practically the entire internet. Along with games, since that has a form of messaging through game chat. Now ya know the drill, call, email, and irl mail your reps and senators. As well as signing petitions against these laws. Anyway, stay alert, stay informed, and call this shit out that is under and not under kosa.
