Concept art from The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
It’s been a little bit since I last did a scene redraw! Thought I’d give it another try,
Have a Quasimodo :]
quasimodo: can you check for monsters under the bed?
frollo: the monsters don't live under our beds, they live inside of us.
quasi:
frollo: goodnight
quasimodo, to phoebus: *points in the distance* somewhere out there, there is a tree tirelessly producing oxygen so you can breathe.
quasi: and i think you owe it an apology
Lovers of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, please read this book!
Quasimodo: A Prequel - S. L. Graf
Honestly, I found it by accident, ordered it and went in thinking it was going to be bullshit knock off fanfic, barely about the characters but their universe, or like an ableist rewrite or something.
Good gods y’all it’s amazing. It’s short, only about 150 pages, but holy crap. The characters are canon, detailed and heavily influenced by history. It’s a story about Quasimodo’s lineage and how his family has been long term destroyed by Frollo even before his birth.
It actually paints Frollo as the monster he is, rather than trying to dismiss it or romanticise it, how he’s destroyed so many lives and people always made excuses for him for their own selfish reasons.
The only thing I wasn’t prepared for was the deeply upsetting subjects that hit without warning. Frollo in the books was a racist, misogynist, murderer, and pedophile, but this fucking slams it in your face and shows you the worst of his soul without making excuses. It’s not gratuitous (without being vulgar) and actually makes the story richer, I just wasn’t prepared for it so it knocked the wind out of me.
This author is clearly a devoted fan and has seen all the adaptations because there’s nods toward various media versions.
As someone obsessed with the original, I highly recommend reading.

Ok so I haven’t thought about the Hunchback of Notre Dame 2 in years but it popped up in an edit video I was watching and I’d forgotten how unbelievably cute Quasimodo and Madellaine are??
Like yes, Hunchback of Notre Dame 2 is… not a good movie (to put it mildly lmao). But I still loved it as a kid, and I do really like Madellaine and her relationship with Quasimodo. Don’t remember much of the rest of the film (I like that Quasi, Esmeralda, Phoebus and their kid are their own found family), but the plot is pretty basic, and the animation drifts from “fine” to ‘terrible”. The main romance is lovely though and does hit a ton of my favourite tropes so I thought I’d give them a shout out because there wasn’t much for them on tumblr
Both of them are so sweet and affectionate with eachother honestly pretty much right out of the gate and they’re always making each other laugh and it’s so soft
Person working on the villains team falls for the hero? Sign me up
They’re two lonely people who have been taught they’re not good enough but see the worth in each other and come together with so much love and support aaaa they’re so sweet to each other
So many Fond Smiles. Which is the best trope ever and these two do it so much and these are just my favourites
Also a lot of bridal carrying which is also a great trope
Most songs in the movie are… pretty terrible ajsflkdshf;ashf but both Quasi and Madellaine’s solo songs are quite sweet and romantic
They have this wonderful all-night date through Paris where they go running across rooftops and dancing in the rain
Madellaine turns her back on the (terrible) villain, who’s like a Frollo-type father figure to her, and in the end only goes through with his plan to keep Quasimodo safe. And there’s the big dramatic ~betrayal~ reveal where Quasi thinks she was using him the whole time
But then she wants to help take the villain down and he chooses to trust and believe in her and he helps her with her dream aaaa
And in the end they kiss and shout their love for each other on top of Notre Dame, I’m always so happy to see Quasi find love and be so happy
