Continuing my little art journey by challenging myself to try a few things I never have before with this piece. Starting with drawing a comic style page which is a huge undertaking, didn't really realize til it was done that I basically made 4 drawings. I also continued the challenge by limiting my color palette. I wanted to see what would happen if I had constraints and it actually taught me so much. (The colors used were #002D41 #09849B #7ACED4 #F15E84 #F5A2C4 #F9EED8) And if that wasn't enough, I also only used the default studio pen for the whole thing (exceptions were made for the wallpaper stamp in the first panel and I used the blender on the face closeup for full disclosure). I clocked 11 procreate hours making this. I am immensely proud of myself for what I accomplished here and I'm sure it will sink in when I'm not so extremely tired of looking at it anymore lmao.

Happy Birthday to my first born child, Ask Again Later!

I can't believe it's already been one year since I returned to the world of fanfic writing after more than a decade away. This little story, which is a pretty angsty take on 'so after,' is something I continue to be proudest of. I have gotten so many lovely responses to it whether they be someone saying it's canon to them now, or finding it very funny, or kind of challenging and sad. I love to have written something that gets so many different reactions. And I'm so glad I was brave enough to post it a year ago. I have found such a nice Everlark community here 🥰 and thats just too lovely. Thank you everyone who has ever read any words I wrote. I know I teased the release of a Peeta POV of this story getting posted today, but I totally forgot I am fully booked this weekend and my MIL is staying with us too... so yeah that isn't ready yet 😅 BUT IT WILL BE SOON!!! I am putting it at the front of the queue that is my WIP to-do list. I promise to post nothing else til that's done 🙏

Well I actually posted a new fic this weekend which was very unexpected but exciting for me. And this Saturday is the 1 year anniversary of Ask Again Later so I have this crazy idea to try and get my too-long-in-the-works Peeta POV version of the story finished and posted to celebrate.

Here's a tiny snip for you (I wanted it to be longer but the sentence before has a C word which is not nice to put on tumblr lol):

Finally finished this little family drama I've literally had in the works since the moment I read the SOTR epilogue. Had a nice burst of inspiration and am proud to have gotten this done in time to celebrate our favorite grumpy victor on his bday.

If the Canon-Version of Delly read Let Light Be Light, what would they think of it?

Omg?? This is such a thrilling question????

We honestly know so little about canon Delly it’s hard for me to separate the tiny canon version her from the much more fleshed out version of her that I’ve made.

But my Delly actually will be revealed in a later chapter to be a lover of romance novels, like I’m thinking the classic 80s grocery store kind. And she’ll find herself comparing her feelings for Thom with the pirates and cowboys in her romantic books.

If she could read this story I think she would at least appreciate the friends to lovers tropes in it as an avid reader. And if she could somehow read it before any of it happens to her she’d be able to avoid all the classic misunderstandings that will get in the way first 😅

I just would hope she’d think I did her justice and that she’d be happy with the very loving and super hot husband I dreamed up for her 🥰

For the fic ask game - #4 Share a silly headcanon from whichever of your fics you'd like! 💛

okay this isn't very silly but it's all I can think of.

The painting Peeta is working on in Ask Again Later is a depiction of Katniss in the bath during the blizzard that she describes in passing as a memory later in the fic. She doesn't know that. She doesn't look at his paintings unless he asks her to. They're just so connected, you see.

I tried to cement it as true and even wrote it down for the peeta pov sequel i'm too scared to ever finish...

I sit down to work on the painting currently on my easel. My attempt at capturing a new favorite memory. Katniss across from me in the bath, the faint blue tint of her lips. The tips of her hair floating gently in the water. I cant find a way to capture her slight shiver.  “You’re freezing, let’s just get out.” I'd said. “No, it took too long” she protested stubbornly, trying to sink herself further in the lukewarm water. “We have to enjoy it a little longer.” “At least come over here, it’s warmer on my side” I coaxed.  The way she had fallen forward, sliding across my chest to capture my lips in a drippy kiss, the water displaced by her movement cascading onto the floor.

7. Do you have any weird writing habits or quirks?

I think all my writing habits are weird and quirky.

I am terrible at writing in chronological order. Pieces of chapters usually just come to me in little bursts and I write them down in an iphone note called 'ff ideas' that is way too long and often loads glitchy now.

And then when I get over my damn self enough to open Ellipsus and try to make something real, I paste all the weird phone blurbs and rearrange them to the timeline in my head, and then try to fill in all the spaces. This usually goes pretty poorly for me and is probably why I am so un-prolific and update so extremely sporadically.

BUT yesterday I made myself sit down and write from the start of a chapter and I had gotten 817 words down when my 45 min timer went off, so IT'S POSSIBLE!! I just get weirdly paralyzed from writing my dumb daydreams down for reasons I cannot explain.

I really miss when I was writing fic as a young person with boring desk jobs where I didn't do anything and cell phones didn't have internet browsers yet so I had so much time to just write fic in a notebook and type it up when I got home. 2026 me has too many distractions and has lost all ability to focus on anything lmao.

WIP WEDS

I haven't written anything in nearing months now for various reasons, and was mostly stuck on the next chapter of Let Light Be Light which I planned to be a Delly POV set about a year after the last chapter and I was just so stuck and couldn't figure it out and then Thom knocked on the side of my brain and was like, excuse me ma'am I have a lot to say first, so I reworked the chapter outline and am actually getting somewhere now!! 🙌

...but also in turn I have turned up the drama about 1000% and will probably lose some of my 6 subscribers in giving Thom more pathos that makes him flawed and complicated but OH WELL!!! I gotta tell the story my brain wants me to tell and it can be just for me. (people say that all the time, i'll try to believe it lololol)

Anyway, here's a juicy snip for you please send good vibes that I can keep feeling capable of writing and actually get something posted this month!!!!

Possibly a hot take: I understand why the “there was no choice it was always Peeta” talking point is so popular because of stupid movie marketing and the fact that in the books Gale is simply never genuinely believable as a rival love interest…BUT I think we should never downplay the choice in Katniss being with Peeta in the end because Katniss would hate that.

It’s not necessarily choice over Gale but choice over hopelessness, choice over death, choice to find a reason to live over letting herself rot in her losses and pain.

It’s being able to actually choose him when she couldn’t before. Katniss tells us many times that the lack of agency she feels is the part of the star-crossed lovers act that hurts most, maybe most notably when she says: “I could do a lot worse than Peeta. That’s not really the point, is it though?” The point is the loss of choice about who to be with/if she wants to be with anyone, something she told us in THG is one of the only choices she ever thought she’d actually get to have in life.

So with that history, it’s not that romantic to me to just purely say Everlark was inevitable, they’re soulmates, it was always going to be them.

I think there’s something delicious and thematically rich about choosing of your own free will to have the thing you didn’t want chosen for you, and it says that without the freedom to make your own decision to love, that love can’t be truly real.

Yes, she tells us that this would have happened anyway, but I think part of what that statement is meant to communicate is that this would have been her choice anyway, not just destiny or soulmatism or whatever. I think it’s important to her that we know she had agency in what her life became.
