@honeywrite
you know those hardcore lovesick characters who continously and frequently stare at their s/o in awe and are just so smitten that when they see them smile or laugh their world just stops spinning and their heart stops beating? yeah i love that shit.
no offence but your acidic cynicism, your edgy ‘brutal honesty’, your “god is dead” “people aint shit” “the world is a nasty nasty place so deal with it, sweetie” enlightened nihilism is not enlightenment. it’s cowardice.
No. Alec. It’s too dangerous for you out here.

how to make a story file
As I am preparing for Camp NaNo*, I have been working on my story file. It occurred to me this might not be common or popular practice. “Story File” is a name I gave it and maybe some of y’all have a different name with the same contents.
*There’s still time to apply to join my Camp NaNo cabin!
My Story File contains everything about my story that doesn’t go in the outline.
It’s broken up into major categories and specific templates. So without further ado, here is how I structure my Story File.
Intro
Title
Logline
Synopsis
Genre
Estimated Total Length (word count)
Draft Length Goal (word count)
Character Bank
Main characters and brief, one-sentence descriptions with ages
Themes and Character Development
Central Question
The Yes/No question that is being asked through the whole story
Should have objective qualities, rather than subjective
i.e. “Will they fall in love?” (subjective) vs. “Will they leave their partners and become a couple?” (objective)
Thematic Questions
These are the internal conflict questions that reside in your character(s) and your story
ex. “Can there really be a successful government?”
ex. “Does grief excuse bad actions?”
Themes at a Glance
Words or phrases that relate to the themes of the story
ex. person vs. nature
ex. isolation
ex. grief
ex. first love
Motivation / Stasis State / Final State
for each main character, you should write a sentence or two pertaining to these three things
Motivation: What is the drive behind this character and their past, present, and future actions? What part of their background makes them the way that they are? What are they looking for? What do they want out of this/a situation?
Stasis State: What are they like before the inciting incident? What problems and questions do they have?
Final State: What has changed about them and their outlook? What questions have they resolved? What has happened to their internal conflict?
Relationships
I usually make a little web of the MCs and their relationship to one another. One for the stasis and one for final.
Stasis: How do these characters see each other? How do they act toward the other? (All before the inciting incident)
Final: How do these characters see each other now? How has their idea of one another shifted?
Even if a character dies before the end, include the most recent relationship status in the Final web.
ex. this is how I organize it, using the Draw feature of Google Docs

I hope this helps y’all and supplements what you’re probably already doing. I know it’s helped me tons to have everything in a central place.
Best of luck!
be with someone who encourages you to be your best self. someone who shows up and kisses your wounds when the world stops. a person who knows how to meet you in your deepest corner. that is who you want.
EXHAUSTIVELY
(Being a Story Which Involves Food, Some Thought, and a Single Embrace)
The story of a girl and her golem. Both agree she’s not doing well on her own, but the golem has his own ideas on how best to help her–not that she’s willing to hear them. A slice-of-life about family, college, magic, and speed-stacking.

authors love to talk about ‘LGBT’ this that or the other and just completely disregard anything to do with trans people. can u imagine how lgb cis people would behave if we started talking about ‘LGBT’ shit that ONLY focused on trans issues. y’all would lose your fucking minds. If I made an article recommending LGBT books and only recommended books about straight trans people, cis lgb’s would crucify me lmao
THIS POST IS ABOUT TRANSPHOBIA. DO NOT DERAIL IT. MAKE YOUR OWN POST.

some highlights from my writing seminar with honestly one of my favourite authors of all time who shall remain nameless bc i dont want her to know i was spilling her secrets online
The first trick is to detach yourself from your idea. You don’t have just one novel inside you, and it’s not a big deal if you don’t finish this novel.
She was skeptical of the common advice “just write!!1!” - she talked about how long ideas for her most popular novels were marinating inside her before she properly wrote them
As a continuation of that, she was a big believer in knowing what you want to write before you write it. Not what you’re going to write, what you want to write.
The first thing she decides about a novel is what the mood is going to be, and this informs every other decision (e.g. the mood for Shiver was bittersweet)
Ideas should be personal, specific, exciting and they should exclude secondary sources. A personal idea isn’t necessarily autobiographical (which should be avoided), but it speaks to your emotional truth.
She said she had been read Ronsey fanfiction and she couldn’t view her car in the same way since.
Story is the thing that seems most important to reader but is most changeable to the author - story is subservient to your mood and your message. Change what you like in the plot as long as your book retains its sense of self.
Story is conflict, exploration and change. A good story has active tension -the characters want something, instead of just wanting something not to happen (e.g. wanting to kill an enemy instead of simply defending a stronghold against an enemy)
A story needs to have a concrete end, something to be done.
Satisfaction is important - deliver what you promise to the reader. The other shoe has to drop. Ronan Lynch doesn’t ever talk about his feelings, so its rewarding when he does.
Earn your emotional moments (she threw shade at Fantastic Beasts lmao)
Forcing a character to be passive is dissatisfying to the reader.
Characters are products of their environments, consistent/predictable, nuanced and specific, moving the plot, and subservient to other story elements.
She always starts with tropes for ensemble casts like sitcoms. Helpful for building good character dynamics.
Write scenes with characters saying explicitly what they’re thinking and then go back and make them talk like real people in the edit.
An action can also prove what they’re thinking, instead of making them say it or another character guess it (e.g. Ronan punching a wall).
Move the reader’s emotional furniture around without them noticing.
All her books follow the three act structure. Established normal -> inciting incident -> character makes an Active Decision -> fun and games -> escalation -> darkest moment -> climax.
Promise what you’re going to do in the first five pages.
Read your book out loud. Record yourself reading it.
If you have writer’s block, it’s because you’ve stopped writing the book you want to write. She likes to delete everything she’s written until she gets back to a point where she knew she was writing what she wanted to write, and then carrying on from there.

”Did you kill your date?”
A chill went up against my spine and I cringed involuntarily. Dear God, how did Ezra Green manage to look that much like a deity in the shitty lighting of our school’s gymnasium? He even smelled great, and that was nearly impossible to accomplish within the proximity of prom.
“He just found the person he’d rather be dancing with.” I sighed lamely and shook my head. Then I motioned my arm towards the endless sea of dancing, hormonal teenagers.
“Oh, I get it.” Ezra smiled. I could have sworn I saw a hint of sadness in his eyes, but I knew I was just imagining things. The gymnasium heat must have been killing my brain cells.
We stood in silence for God knows how long. I was upset. And then, Ezra spoke up, “I can hardly imagine the thought of dancing with you ever being repulsive.”
What the hell, was he…. flirting with me? Was he fucking high? My natural instinct was to punch him in his perfectly divine face. Somehow, though, I ended up saying, “Oh really? I might end up surprising you then because I can be pretty repulsive.”
He let out a long, exasperated sigh and held out his arm. “Then let’s find out.”
I arched one eyebrow suspiciously. Okay, this was definitely a setup or I was living in a nightmare. He extended his arm once again, more rigid this time. His fingers were spaced out open and invitingly.
It was during this moment, that I realized I was going to fucking die on my senior prom night.
“Loosen up,” He instructed as he led me to the crowd of couples. I was really about to slow dance with my unrequited crush since freshman year, huh.
I did my best to loosen up but I could barely maintain the stiffness of my body as he tried to delicately dance with my mannequin like limbs.
“Just trust me, okay?” Ezra laughed dangerously close to my ear. I felt my knees buckle.
“I’m dying.” I spat out as he placed his arm around my waist.
Ezra laughed at my remark. Huh, he really thought that I was joking.
His hand on my waist made me sweat as he continued to dance like nothing was wrong. I mean, why would there be anything wrong? We were friends, as he constantly liked to remind me. What was wrong with two pals having the time of their fucking life while slow-dancing at prom?
“Ezra, uh, listen….” I began. His attention was immediately diverted to me, green eyes hooded with intent. My inhibitions were telling me to shut the fuck up.
“I’m…. Uh…. Really…..!” I pressed my lips together. “…..Happy for you. I mean, proud. With your like, college and all.” Why the everliving fuck am I so awkward? Looking up, I expected to see Ezra adorn one of his signature goofy smiles. I was wrong. He was looking at me with a grim look of thanks.
“Connie,” Ezra began but then stopped himself. We continued to dance to the slow song.
“So! Um, anyways, what’s your favorite type of snake?” I laughed hysterically, desperately avoiding eye contact. I’m an idiot.
“Snake?” He asked in the utmost confusion. I barely heard him. My hand grew hot against his own. I was probably sweating, but he continued to easily lead the dance. I abandoned all senses and zoned in on Ezra. Everything we had been through, the laughs, the smiles, and the embarrassments.
Oh, dear fucking God. I was in love with Ezra Green. This wasn’t some crush anymore, this was serious. And no, it wasn’t the kind of love, like, “Oh wow! I love this french fry, it’s so crispy and salty!” No. This was the full-blown love that you only can get on a cover of Nicholas Sparks novel cover. I was in love with Ezra Green, and I couldn’t do jack shit about it.
HAVE AN AMAZING DAY ! <3

Ok ok so first off, the concept of soul and blood siphoners? AMAZING. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of this concept before and it’s so cool to hear about!! I want to know everything!! How do soul siphoners treat blood siphoners? Do they get educated differently and live in different communities? What are their powers like?
Also, I personally find that my favorite part of any book is the characters, so obviously I am DIGGING this!! Davey? My daughter. Alicia? My wife. Grayson? My son. Wes? My dad. I’m adopting them all o.o These interconnecting relationships are interesting as HELL and ofc we stan All The Gays. I’m so pumped for this story!! I can’t wait to hear more!!
oh my god thank you!! this is the nicest comment i’ve ever received and i’m so grateful that you took the time to type it out!! and to answer our questions:

writeblr intro: aspiring YA author and part-time podcaster
since i’ve finally gotten around to making this blog, i figured it wouldn’t hurt to toss up an intro page
my name is elizabeth, 24 years old, scorpio. i’ve been writing forever and really need a place to talk about writing with people who know the struggle. this blog will primarily be used for:
posting about my wips (edits, excerpts, rambling, vague plot ideas)
excitedly looking at other peoples’ wips and spreading encouragement
archiving interesting writing tips
complaining about the writing process
i have four major wips, three books (that don’t even have working titles yet) and one podcast (that does actually have a title):
a YA urban fantasy: a story of hunger, need, want, art, and what to do when you get taken to faerie by a pretty girl and your best friend starts trying to be heroic in order to get you back (do you even want to be rescued? especially by a boy?).
a YA high fantasy: centering around a brother and sister pair who worship their old gods in a country that is being taken over by a more aggressive religion, and the journey to save what little tradition remains in a country overrun by invaders.
a YA urban fantasy with heavy religious overtones: a fallen angel, a modern prophet, and a mob boss’ daughter are brought together by unusual circumstances and genuine friendship in order to help one another in ways they didn’t know they needed. also the existence of God is heavily debated; results inconclusive.
neon decay in sin city: a podcast, specifically a recorded campaign/chronicle from the tabletop game vampire: the masquerade. heavy discussions of humanity/good and evil/justice/change. five player characters and a wealth of npcs. will post a link to listen to it one day when we have enough to actually post.
you can see more info about my wips here.
you are in love by taylor swift is still THAT otp song because it describes the absolute best relationship between two individuals and you can FIGHT ME on this
