~ Day Five - Athena ✩ ₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧
Athena is the Greek goddess of wisdom and war. She was known to help defend villages against attacks. She was also well versed in weaving and pottery among other crafts.
Athena's creation story is definitely unique. She emerged from Zeus' forehead without a mother. She of course has many half-siblings. She was fully grown when she was born. Another story is that Zeus swallowed a woman named Metis while she was pregnant, she out came Athena. She adopted a boy named Erichthonius, who was born when Hephaestus spilled his seed onto the Earth.
She is often depicted with a shield or spear and wearing a long robe.
Athena also played a big role in the Trojan war.

⋆.˚ ᡣ𐭩 .𖥔˚ The Nine Muses ⋆.˚ ᡣ𐭩 .𖥔˚
In Greek mythology, there is a group of nine goddesses called the muses. They are responsible for inspiring artists, poets, and writers. The word muse comes from the Greek word "mosis", which means wish or desire. The word museum also comes from the word "muses".
The myth of their creation is that Zeus (disguising himself as a Sheppard), slept with Mnemosyne for nine nights in a row, producing nine sisters. Mnemosyne gave her daughters to Eufime and Apollo, who raised them with a great fondness of the arts.
The nine muses were:
Clio - Created the study of history and guitar. She was a goddess of creativity. Her role was mostly to attend political meetings. In ancient Greece, history was called "clio" or "kleos". Often depicted with a book. She was also the goddess of memory.
Euterpe - Created many types of musical instruments, is often depicted playing a flute, while being surrounded by several other instruments. She is also usually associated with drums, violin, and guitar. The flute is her specialty.
Thalia - She discovered comedy and humor, which she was also protector of. Also discovered geometry and agriculture. She was depicted holding a comedy mask. She is a joyful young woman, almost always laughing.
Melpomene - She was the creator and protector of tragedy (opposite of Thalia). She was depicted with a tragedy mask and bearing a bat. She is the Greek goddess of theatre, along with Thalia. She is the mother of mermaids. She is know to have anything a woman could desire, except happiness.
Terpsichore - She is the muse of poetry and dancing. She is also known as the mother of sirens. She was the protector of dancing and loved music. Invented the harp. Also invented education. She loves having fun and being happy. She is depicted as a young woman wearing laurels on her head, with a harp, or dancing.
Erato - Protector of love, love poetry, and also marriage and weddings. Her name comes from "Eros" which is the feeling of falling in love. She is depicted with a lyre and love arrows + bow. She is associated with roses, myrtle, and turtle doves.
Polymnia - Protector of divine hymns and mimic art. Invent geometry and grammar. She is often in meditation or a pensive state. Depicted looking to the sky holding a lyre. She created harmony as well. She is associated with the colour white.
Urania - Protector of celestial objects. Such as stars and planets. She invented astronomy. She is depicted bearing stars, a celestial sphere, and a bow compass. The planet was named after her as well as the Greek god.
Calliope - She was the oldest and most superior muse. Her role was so accompany kings to serve justice and peace. Protector of heroic poems. She is depicted holding laurels or a trumpet in one hand and Homeric poems in the other hand. She is also ruler of epic poetry. She taught Achilles how to sing and is known for her beautiful voice.
The nine muses have been inspiring artists for centuries.

Day Four - Artemis
Artemis was the Greek goddess of hunting, wild animals, the outdoors, and chastity. She was also the protector of young girls. Artemis, like her brother Apollo, was known for bringing upon sudden illness or death. Artemis would go after women, and Apollo after men.
Artemis was daughter of Zeus and Leto. During her mothers preganacy, she was harassed by Hera, Zeus' wife. Her mother finally found refuge on the island of Delos, where Artemis was first born, and then she assisted her mother in her twin brothers birth. Her brother is Apollo.
In one instance, Orion (a giant), was a very close friend to Artemis. Apollo tricked her into killing him with her bow, and in response to her grief, he became a star in the Orion constellation.
Artemis is known for transforming people into animals out of anger or punishment, and she can also turn into any animal herself.

Het-Heru, Goddess of love, beauty, music, and art!
Het Heru, better known by her Greek name Hathor, is a Goddess whose worship extended from the predynastic era of Egyptian history to the end of the Greaco Roman Period. Being such an ancient Goddess, she is associated with many things. She is the Goddess of love, sex, passion, wine and beer, fertility, joy, music, art, dance, healing, childbirth, foreign lands and mining.
She is the daughter of Ra, and there is a myth where, as a lioness, she slaughters humanity under her father's will. These humans were rebels against Ra, and Hathor, bast or Sekhmet, punished them.
She is the patron Goddess of women, children, artists, miners, mothers, and foreigners.
The seven Het-Herus
The seven Het-Herus are usually thought to be either daughters or aspects of the Goddess. They could tell the future, and decide fate. Usually involked in divination (especially for telling the fate of a newborn infant), they were divine musicians and scared away evil spirits, and they also helped with matters of love. The seven Het-Herus go by these names:
Lady of the Universe, or Lady of Juvenation
Sky storm, or Mistress of the West
You from the Land of Silence, or Mistress of the West
You from Khemmis, or Mistress of the east
Red-Haired one, or Mistress of the East
Bright Red, or Lady of the Sacred Land
Your name Flourishes, or Lady of the Sacred Land

Day Three - Ares
Ares, most commonly known as the god of war, was a Greek god known for his short temper and outbursts, which made him hard to be around.
He is well known for being one of Aphrodite's best lovers, and also fighting Hercules (unsuccessfully, might I add).
Ares was the son of Hera and Zeus, and brother to Hebe and Eileithyia. Ares had many children, most popular being Hippolyta, Phobos, Harmonia, and Eros. Aphrodite mothered Eros and Harmonia.
Not only was Ares a war god, but he was also extremely beautiful. Him and Apollo are known to be the most handsome of the gods.
A popular myth surrounding Ares is when Aphrodite's husband, Hephaistos, wanted to catch the lovers, so as they lay down in bed together, they are trapped by a net. Ares was temporarily banished from Mount Olympus.
Ares was also heavily invloved with fighting Hercules. When Ares son, Kyknos was killed by Hercules after Apollo had sent him, Ares was enraged. However, when Ares tried to fight the mortal Hercules, Athena protected him and even hurt Ares.
In the Trojan war, Ares is known for siding with the Trojans. He even leads them into battle.
He was also accused of killing Poseidon's son, Halirrhothios, furthering his unpopularity amongst the gods. Ares' reasoning for this was that Halirrhothios has raped Ares' daughter, Alcippe.

Harper Song (from the tomb of Intef)
The harper's songs are a collection of poems from ancient Egypt, which were inscribed on the tomb of the deceased accompanied by a picture of a blind man playing the harp. It is speculated that these songs were actually played at mortuary festivals honoring the deceased. This particular poem is from the tomb of Intef, and was written during the Middle Kingdom.
He is Happy this good prince: Death is a kindly fate. A Generation passes, Another stays, Since the time of the ancestors. The gods who were before rest in their tombs, Blessed nobles too are buried in their tombs. (Yet) those who built tombs, Their places are gone, What has become of them? I have heard the words of Imhotep and Hordjedef, Whose sayings are recited in whole. What of their places? Their walls have crumbled, Their places are gone, As though they had never been! None comes from there, To tell of their needs, To calm our hearts, Until we go where they have gone! Hence rejoice in your heart!Forgetfulness profits you, Follow your heart as long as you live! Put myrrh on your head, Dress in fine linen, Anoint yourself with oils fit for a god, Heap up your joys, Let your heart not sink! Follow your heart and your happiness, Do your things on earth as your heart commands! When there comes to you that day of mourning, the Weary-hearted (Osiris) hears not their mourning, Wailing saves no man from the pit! Make holiday, Do not weary of it! Lo, none is allowed to take his goods with him, Lo, none who departs comes back again!
