fished through my tumblr over dinner tonight to find this post bc i quote it all the time and i wanted to show my pal who’s a twin. his face fell. “that’s us”
his eyes were bloodshot and his mouth agape. i think he’s just in awe at how funny it is and i go “lol who’s sniff and who’s whimper” and he goes. “no. THAT’S US.”
called his brother to get here asap with the hard drives of the day they were born, spent the next hour doing a deep dive to find the source of this image and analyzing the video. the only differences are the sheet and crib they’re in but we think they may have been moved to a secondary location between the video and this image because their features are identical and the hats are the EXACT same down to how they’re resting on their heads, and they were not provided by the hospital.
i quote sniff and whimper every day. i show everybody i know this gif i think it is that funny. my friend and i were laying on the ground like two hours before dinner going “i’m sniff..” “i’m whimper!” in little voices.
i fucking know sniff and whimper. i’ve known sniff and whimper all along.
anyway heres the best clip from the scripted marik vs pegasus duel (source)

I really want you guys to experience the forgotten Ferris Bueller sitcom show with possibly the worst opening music I've ever heard.
Breaking my silence this is the worst midi
I was gonna object until I got to the FE-FE-FE-FERRIS
like 99% of “men and women are soooo different!!!” comedy is literally just describing the experience of not understanding other people. like it’s not that women never say what they mean talking to other people is just like that. it can be hard to understand what other people are thinking. bioessentialism really rots the brain
“women will say I’m fine and then not mean it” yeah that’s something literally everybody does. is this your first time interacting with another human being my guy
Often it’s specifically “people are weird in ways I only notice when I’m trying to date and/or sleep with them”
speaking as an autistic trans man, there’s more to it than that. social skills are taught in sexist ways. someone raised as a man and someone raised as a woman are likely to learn very different social skills.
depending on who raised you and when, you might actually have an entirely different set of culture norms from your opposite-ASAB peers. like, let’s take the “women will say they’re FINE and not actually MEAN IT” example:
a lot of men don’t get taught to check in on their friends’/loved ones’ emotional states unless there is Actually A Big Problem. they’re taught that other people’s emotions are None Of Their Business and that it’s rude to constantly worry about people.
meanwhile, a lot of women get taught that managing everyone’s emotions is Their Responsibility, that they HAVE to constantly make sure that the people around them are Okay, and that they HAVE to constantly project Being Okay so they don’t worry other people.
if a person raised AMAB asks a person raised AFAB “hey, are you okay?”, they are treating it as an expression of deep and genuine concern. but a person raised AFAB will not see it as deep concern; they’ll see it as a casual social interaction with a Correct Canned Answer that they must give to not be Rude.
the second person says “I’m fine”, as that is the correct canned answer. but the first person is not looking for a canned answer; they’re attempting to make a deep connection. They see the canned answer is a rejection of that connection and as a lie. So they are (needlessly!) hurt and confused. and the second person is also likely to wind up hurt and confused, because they were Being Polite and now they’re being treated like a lying liar who lies.
and this is where all the battle of the sexes bullshit comes from; everyone is acting in accordance with their culture, but no one is really equipped to understand that someone who is nominally from the same culture has an entirely different set of cultural norms. so you get this MEN/WOMEN ARE STRANGE AND UNKNOWABLE in the same way you get, idk, NOT-AMERICANS ARE STRANGE AND UNKNOWABLE from Americans. except tbh there’s added vitriol, because everyone expects people from a different culture to be strange (hell, they get mad if you aren’t sometimes!), but they expect people from their culture to be ~normal~.
there is a mismatch of expectations here beyond “yes, everyone says they’re fine and doesn’t mean it sometimes, women aren’t uniquely mysterious creatures” . it’s a culture clash.
Heeey it's the bastard! Freshening up more refs
barnyard the original party animals is the uncontested lord of bad implications in childrens movies
ok so like “the secret life of x” movies tend to not strongly explore the actual reasons why, exactly, their life has to be secret… they don’t really focus on it within the narrative. They do usually have some small justification for why animals or video games or toys or whatever have never just revealed themselves:
There’s no stated reason. They just pretend to not be alive. We usually can suspend our suspension of disbelief here because when it’s something like a video game or an emoji because any odd occurrences is perceived as a glitch or something similar but the actual reason why they aren’t too hung up on this kinda shitty lot in life isn’t said
They get something out of their current relationship with humans (like in toy story)
They have some specific reason to hide that they’re alive, like they die if they’re seen (like in the christmas toy)
They perceive themselves as sentient, talking creatures, but humans can’t understand them. They just see a squeaking mouse or an inanimate hot dog or whatever.
and the last one is what most animal movies do, and it’s like, not devoid of weird implications but you can see where it mostly works.
but barnyard is the outlier here: it goes with tier one: the animals can talk and walk on two legs but just pretend that they can’t for unstated reasons.
in the history of the barnyard world non human animals, at some point, decided to just pretend to be unable to speak. a “cow” or a “coyote” or a “hen” do not exist as we know it in the barnyard universe. the baa of the sheep is false; the ewe doesn’t understand it either. they only made up that noise to hide the fact that they speak human languages. a dog barking and running on all fours is a facade. animals naturally walk on their hind legs and made up whole postures just to appear non sentient.
and for what? what do they gain from this? they have no rights and no voice by their own choice. at one point a donkey claims the farmer is a good person because he’s vegan and a pig mentions bacon - this is not a fantasy universe devoid of death and misery and meat. do animals, in hushed whispers, remind their children not to sob in their real voice as they’re taken away? do the dogs not beg for kindness when they’re tied up and hit? do cows and chickens not cry for their life in the slaughterhouses? does a rat not scream a human scream when the trap misses their neck and only breaks their spine? Why? what is the point? They loose so much and have everything to gain.
anyways does everyone remember this really awful cat. it only appears in one scene but i can just sense the porn of it that would pop up if i googled it’s name
This post is like being tied to a chair as a a joker-style villain monologues and presses a gun closer and closer to my head as he reaches the climax of his rehearsed piece on the flaws of society and when he finally pulls the trigger it’s a little flag that says “bang!”
get your hand off my nipple wednesday
in case anyone was wondering about the kazuki takahashi house tour: this is the video. i tracked it down to share with all of you. in here, he shows off his home and studio, where he has entire shrine dedicated to yugioh merch, in addition to other various interests such as horror movies, marvel comic books, and other mangaka’s work. in his studio, he has the original yugioh manga and seems fairly proud of the work he’s created. he still had the original inkings he’d created.
takahashi was a lover of games, and i’d like to think having a hand in creating one of the biggest trading card games in the entire world is a legacy that a such a game lover would take pride in. takahashi clearly enjoyed and loved the series he created, and the loss of him is devastating. thank you, takahashi, thank you. your work inspired me to create, and i am indebted to the work you did that shaped my childhood and me as a person. this is a sentiment echoed by millions right now.
Yu-Gi-Oh! manga creator Kazuki Takahashi (real name Kazuo Takahashi) has passed away at age 60 due to an apparent diving accident.
The Coast Guard reportedly found Takahashi equipped with snorkeling gear. Both the Coast Guard and police are currently investigating the events that led up to Takahashi’s death. A person on a passing boat had called Japan’s maritime hotline to report an apparent body, floating 300 meters (about 1,000 feet) from the coast off the resort city of Nago, at about 10:30 a.m. on July 6, 2022.
Takahashi’s Yu-Gi-Oh! manga launched an international hit franchise that continues to this day with card games, anime, toys, and newer manga series. Takahashi won Comic-Con International’s Inkpot Award in July 2015. The award recognizes individuals for outstanding contributions to comics, science fiction and fantasy, film, television, animation, and fandom.
anyway white supremacy is still a problem in leftist circles and we should talk about it more
you should be incredibly critical of the way you envision and talk about a post-capitalist justice system cuz some of y’all really are just reinventing lynch mobs and calling it something new.
Just an addition: White supremacy isnt just nazis and skinheads and swastikas. Its also voting for “tough on crime” candidates, gentrifying neighborhoods, keeping your kids away from “the wrong kinds of people”, talking down towards immigrants, demanding quinoa and other “exotic food” but demanding it be cheap and accessible 365 days a year, etc etc.
i think that unless you have experienced life while being actually dead broke or near it at least once, its hard to really grasp at how, in many places but in america in particular, ‘having money’ is the access card that allows you to participate, materially, in being fully human. even in non-crisis situations, situations where a paycheck is on the way, you have enough of some kind of food to make it, and you aren’t in any danger of losing shelter, even if you hardly spend any money when you do have it, the state of being completely without money is a state of being hyperaware, constantly, of how much smaller your world is all of a sudden and how many basic aspects of mobility and enrichment are off limits to you. its profoundly psychologically agitating to self worth and well-being even sans the trauma of worse states of deprivation, and i don’t think a lot of people who have lived comfortably without this experience understand that there’s a critical difference between ‘having less money’ and ‘having no money’ when talking about related issues.
I don't know how to phrase this, but I feel like autism acceptance in the public eye is less about actually accepting all autistic people and more about creating this image of autism that's like funky quirky hand flappy disorder. Like everyone wants an autistic friend who can rattle off cool facts about random subjects or an uwu soft bean who they must protect! And so many people put emphasis on hyper empathy and "so many of us are actually really empathetic uwu".
But what all of that completely ignores is there are negative sides to autism and we will sometimes do things that piss you off. No one wants to deal with the meltdowns or the complete and utter lack of empathy or the anger and the depression. What about those of us who self injure when we stim and have angry explosive meltdowns? Who are occassionally too blunt and too withdrawn and rude and offputting?
I'm not saying it's your job to deal with all of that. It is also on us to try to manage and control our own behavior. But it just seems to me like everyone wants nuerodivergent pride until we do something you don't like. Until we start acting "scary".
Autism acceptance means you accept all of us. Those of us who are non verbal, semi verbal, have high support needs or "inconvenient" symptoms. Those of us who aren't palatable.
