I love imagining that every eridian welcome committee comic takes place in the same universe and that grace just never said anything about it.

He doesn’t call them out on it cause that might mean that they will actually research phrases more and second guess themselves a lot. And that would mean the cards would stop. Which would be a shame.

But like this he gets a fun little puzzle every week or so where he tries to guess what the committee is trying to say this time. He can rate the cards on funniness and clarity!

I’d like to think that he explains what a lot of them sound like towards the end of his life after having received thousands of cards filled with innuendos and catcalling. The committee doesn’t emotionally recover for the rest of their lives.

I imagine Grace gets a few that he can't figure out at all and he constantly toys with asking the ewc to explain but that would risk alerting them to the fact that they make mistakes which would ruin everything.

The older i get the more i understand why some people become obsessed with privacy, not because they’re hiding something, but because being constantly perceived starts to feel spiritually exhausting.

Did you know that soda machines at restaurants and movie theaters spy on you? That most common new cars now record your sexual preferences and send it to the manufacturer (and also data about anyone who also gets in your car, walks by your car, and maybe happens to be within visual range of your car)? That grocery stores are trying to force customers to download an app to scan barcodes on shelves instead of putting up prices, so the app can scan the phone, decide how much that customer should be squeezed for, and adjust the price? That more and more innocent people are being sent to jail for crimes committed hundreds of miles away because an AI facial recognition algorithm spit their faces out and the cops didn't bother to do the most basic of checks?

I am not uptight about privacy because I'm hiding something. I'm uptight about it because the people who dismiss my right to privacy are dangerous to you and me and our families, personally, all the time.

And often, they are assholes, too.

I’m uptight about privacy because I don’t want random strangers on the internet knowing my real name or where I live. I’ve been taught from a young age about basic internet security, so I use a pseudonym online and don’t share information about my location other than sometimes the state I live in if it’s relevant to the conversation. I also use a PNGtuber avatar instead of a facecam because I don’t want random people on Twitch or Youtube knowing what I look like.

A lot of people seem to forget that internet stalking is common. I’m uptight about privacy not because I’m hiding something, but because I’m trying to protect myself from people who might use personal information against me.

the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.

a funny thing about having a Problematic Blorbo is that you'll periodically come across a post along the lines of "um let's not forget that [Blorbo] is a bad person..." listing their various crimes, and if you have a modicum of intellectual honesty you find yourself nodding along and saying yeah it's true... but it's the greyness of their character that makes them so compelling... At the same time though you have a little Saul Goodman in your ear going "your honor in their defense: who cares like omfgggg who caresssssss like come onnnnnn"
