god fucking damn it do some fucking research. the suicide rates in trans youth aren’t a joke. people actually kill themselves. not out of spite and not to threaten anyone. the vast majority of trans people know exactly what they’re doing and would’ve gladly not had dysphoria if they had a choice. statements like this help push the idea that transgender people (particularly teens) are mentally ill attention seekers who go to the extreme just for funsies and choose to be the way they are, which couldn’t be farther from the truth

if you repeatedly tell a dysphoric child the false statistic that they will die by age 35 there’s a good chance they will believe you and it will influence their mental state. lgb youth got the “it gets better” talk. trans youth gets the “you will die if you don’t get what you want right now” talk. ellen page flat out said “children will die” regarding males not playing on female sports teams. of course children constantly hearing things like this will be suicidal. I feel like it’s similar to how you have to be careful not to ask children leading questions in cases of suspected abuse, because if done improperly, the child can start to believe they were abused even if nothing happened. they display signs of trauma and develop false memories. developing minds are easily influenced and it’s not something to fuck around with because the psychological consequences can be severe

the word “woman” was bad to describe us, so people said “female”. the word “female” was bad so people said “afab”. the word “afab” is now bad too (“talking about afab experiences is transmisogynistic”), and you apparently shouldn’t talk about the experiences of “people with vaginas” only, either.

discussing “radical feminism” was bad, so people said “feminism”, but that was bad, too, so people just talked about “misogyny”, but that was a “terf” dogwhistle, so people talked about “gendered socialization” but that’s a transmisogynistic discussion framework, apparently. So where do you go next?

It’s not that the words were offensive, it’s that the power they gave to women to exclusively discuss ourselves and our problems effectively and accurately was. It’s a silencing tactic. We could call ourselves anything as a sex class and it’d still be offensive that we found solidarity. You can’t talk about, find community with, or protect women if acknowledging sex is banned, and you can’t talk about women’s issues if acknowledging sexism is banned.
