My husband and I were able to get away the other night for a little date night and we went and saw the new Black Christmas so I bring you my review.
DISCLAIMER: I did see this movie on Monday and I have been trying to figure out how to word this. This is a trigger warning. Also a spoiler alert for those who have not seen it.
Black Christmas (2019) Was an absolute shit show. Sophia Takal and April Wolfe to a classic and honestly just shit on it. There was a couple Easter eggs but only two really. **SPOILER ALERT** I would honestly just keep reading and let me save you and hour and a half of your life. The movie follows our heroine, Riley, who was a rape victim from a frat boy who is part of the oldest fraternity on their college campus. (I don't remember the college name honestly I do not care to relearn it). But BIG SURPRISE, this frat is a cult practicing dark magic to attack these sorority girls to submit to males. This movie is basically a big message about toxic masculinity and rape culture. You could honestly save your time and leave a classic movie alone and JUST WRITE A MOVIE ABOUT THAT!! Also, I do know that horror movies have been used to disguise world problems and kind of mix it in among the horror and if that was the writers attempt, they honestly failed horribly. Before I go further I do want to add that yes, toxic masculinity and rape culture are serious subjects that need to be solved, but I do not want to go to an alleged horror movie and have it thrown in my face for an hour and half leaving myself incredibly pissed off at the movie and even more upset that my husband actually felt kind of attacked for just being a man. To the writers of the movie, if you want to subliminally add in real world problems to a horror movie, then please do it, movie writers in general have done it for years, but be less in your face about it and again leave classic movies alone. Also while I am ranting, for a slasher movie WHERE WAS THE BLOOD?! The most we actually get is some black ooze from the little cult, black magic possessed frat pledges but that is it! The only good thing about the movie but unfortunately was so not enough to actually make me like this monstrosity is that Cary Elwes plays the evil cult leader of the fraternity and well he is a good villain.
in conclusion though, I give Black Christmas 2019 0 out of 5 skulls. Its bad. And if you still watch it after reading my rant well you can’t blame me. You did it to yourself
Saint (Day 12)
If you have not notice by now, every four days I have been throwing in a foreign movie. This was the second Christmas horror I watched. I watched on Christmas when I got it with my sister and we couldn’t turn off the lights we were so petrified. I love the twist on turning Saint Nikolaus into a mass murderer who comes back every 55 years to just start killing basically for the sake of killing! I love that in a good horror or slasher movie once in a while. Just no rhyme or reason to the endless slaughter. This movie hands down I will watch every single Christmas because it is my favorite along with the original Black Christmas and well nostalgia is in there too somewhere. So, on that note, because I love the film so much, I felt it was fitting to bring my 12 Days of Christmas Horror to a close with Saint.
What do you all think of this movie? Let me know!
Merry Christmas to all and I hope that Krampus won’t be visiting you tonight!
Black Christmas 1974 (Day 11)
This movie was honestly the first Christmas horror movie I watched. I had to be about 16 at the time and to this day, even though I know what happens the movie still scares the Hell out of me! The movie is just perfect because of the fact that you don’t know the villain. There is no backstory to him, just a guy who kind of snaps and goes berserk! Plus, I chose this movie and its perfect for today as my wonderful husband/horror movie buddy will be taking me to the new Black Christmas tonight. I am holding higher hopes for this one than the 2006 reboot. Don't get me wrong I did like the 2006 one, just felt it to be a touch over the top!

Better Watch Out (day 9)
*SPOILERS AHEAD* This movie was just released recently, yes, I have dropped some spoilers in past posts but those movies are older so if you haven’t seen them by now its probably been spoiled for you already! This is a fairly new movie that was just released this year as a Shudder exclusive. This movie completely blew me away! I did expect this to be your typical home invasion movie but it just twists on you into a psychotic teenager who goes on a mass killing spree all because he is in love with his baby sitter! And this kid is like a mix of Charles Manson and Ted Bundy crazy! But holy shit was the kid smart. Don’t get me wrong, I did want to reach into the tv and slap the shit out of the kid but some parts I was left with holy shit you have thought of everything. Plus, Dacre Montgomery has a bit part in the movie and I find him pretty!
Silent Night, Deadly Night (Day 10)
So, I realize that I can’t just give you all great posts on my personal opinions of these movies so I bring to you an absolute shit show of a movie! Silent Night, Deadly Night was released during the hype of the slasher movies. Despite its criticism because it would be too terrifying for a kid to walk into a theatre and see a poster for it, the movie is honestly just awful. Like the whole start a kid gets traumatized for a dude dressed as Santa murdering his parents which would be enough and then to just have a mean old nun make everything worse for the kid that he can’t even be attracted to a woman without losing his damn mind? Like COME ON!!! Some of the kills were kind of cool like the chick with the antlers but some were just so ridiculous. To punish myself further I did watch the sequel and for that one just the line “It’s Garbage Day!” should honest to god be said when someone asks to describe either of those movies!
What do you think of the choices? Let me know!
Day 5: I chose Krampus for this list because honestly, I love this movie. The movie definitely wasn’t what I expected it to be. Personally, I do not like when horror crosses with comedy mainly because I just find that the creators go way over board with comic relief. I did have a feeling that this movie would go overboard with comedy solely because I saw Adam Scott and David Koechner were starring in the movie. But I still went to see it because I have always loved the folklore surrounding Krampus. I love it so much that I have even told my eldest about him. Dumbed down G rated version for the kid but hey I can give more details when he gets older and honestly there is worse things, I can tell the kid. For Krampus though, I love that parts of the movie are actually kind of creepy and some even terrifying but other scene you laugh and kind of feel better for a moment. The gingerbread cookies coming alive always makes me laugh hysterically!
Christmas Evil (Day 6)
This movie has been a recent discovery for me thanks to the Shudder streaming service! Released as a low budget movie in the 80’s I actually found this to be and incredibly well-done movie. The acting was wonderful. Especially the lead character, Brandon Maggart as Harry Stadling! He played such a great psycho. The kind of psycho that after so many years just completely loses his mind and starts killing people. Plus, what better time to go completely nuts than at Christmas when tension is already insanely high! The plot line to the story I was a bit unsure of, like honestly discovering Santa is not real and that’s what starts your mass decent into madness? Little odd but as the movie progresses it honestly just becomes very enticing and ends on such a perfect note that it really does not leave it open for a sequel, and to my knowledge there isn’t one (note I have not searched very hard so if I am wrong please let me know). The only issue I had with the movie was I found just the editing to be a bit choppy. But even then, I have seen way worse!
All the Creatures Were Stirring (day 7)
This has also been another wonderful find on Shudder! And yes, again with the anthologies! This anthology movie however is just smaller movies within the actual movie itself. With a lot of anthology movies, I always find they get predictable, and by predictable, I mean every one dies at the end of the story. With this anthology however you get the fun in guessing whether everyone will survive or not. I did have two of the stories where I could not get into them for the life of me but the rest really kept me interested! And the ending for the main storyline was a wonderful twist!
Rare Exports (day 8)
Of course, every so often I need to throw in something foreign! Rare exports was gifted to me many years ago by a friend who knew my beginning obsession with subtitled horror! This movie in a way almost has a Krampus feel to it plus it is based in Finland where a lot of our folklore comes to life. While this movie is not particularly scary (for me anyways) it did make me jump a few times. It is a typical movie where the kid knows something is wrong but of course the adults do not believe him but at least it isn’t like all movies where the parents brush everything off until shit has completely hit the fan. And to utilize all those Santa looking creatures to ship them all over the world for basically mall Santa’s is not only kind of genius but hey those families will never go hungry again!
What do you think of the choices above? Let me know!
Dial Code Santa Claus (AKA Deadly Games, AKA Game over)
This little number takes us to France. This movie is literally a mix of Home Alone, Die Hard, and I can’t help but feel there is a touch of Rambo added to this. I also have a soft spot for foreign horror films, mainly because you can’t close your eyes or look away because the character might say something and BAM you’re lost! I won’t lie, I had a really hard time watching this one mainly because it is just, well, bad. I did feel really bad for the psycho in the movie, he just wants to help children! He just wants to show them that he is not some creep and be nice to them and to let his inner child out… okay well that’s at least what I think he is doing. Again, hard time watching, probably missed something. Another problem I had with the movie is what kind of parents leave a small boy alone with an ailing grandfather?! Seriously that kid is not old enough for that as it is and on top of that, he has to protect him from a psycho dressed up as Santa?! No! That is 50 shades of wrong! Although, grandpa managing to shoot said psycho at the end of the movie when he is obviously super blind was kind of cool.

A Christmas Horror Story is actually an anthology and honestly, I am a sucker for anthology movies. With anthologies, I find that I am able to enjoy at least a few of the stories and as long as I can enjoy one story, then the movie at least sticks out in my mind. One thing I really like is when all of the stories manage to intertwine together in the end, much like this movie. I have to be biased though, I REALLY do not like William Shatner, but I can however see past this for the stories in the movie. Through the whole film the only story I did not care for was the second one with the kid becoming a changeling or something along those lines. I don’t know but I do know I have never cared for body snatcher sort of stuff like that. The other stories have ghosts, Krampus, murder, and a mall Santa that goes completely nuts and just starts killing people off. That is stuff I like, but then again this is just my personal view on it!
What did you all think of the movie? Let me know!
Despite popular belief I do feel that The Conjuring 2 is kind of a Christmas movie. In this thrilling sequel, Ed and Lorraine Warren travel to London to help a desperate family get rid of the evil that has taken over their home. At first watch, this movie scared the ever-living Hell out of me! Mainly because of the Nun. Upon watching the movie since I have honestly come to the realization that the nun honestly just looks like an early nineties Marilyn Manson. But enough about the nun! Now as much as I love the first 2 conjuring movies, I cannot help but feel that every conjuring movie reminds me of the Amityville Horror. I say this because we saw it in the first movie as well. Old house, bad spirit that possesses one member of the family and sometimes someone dies. Watching the movie on its own and viewing it with an open mindset that it is its own film, but watching it as a franchise not as good. But it does give a bit of a Christmas feel, if it didn’t, well it wouldn’t be on the list!
What did you all think? Agree or disagree, let me know!
For my first choice on my 12 Days of Christmas Horror I chose the Classic Gremlins! Probably one of the earliest horror movies I can recall watching but it never gets old for me. The movie is about a young man who receives a gift, a very unusual one at that. This is when we are first introduced to the adorable Mogwai, Gizmo. Of course, with an unusual pet obtained in a strange little shop in China town there are 3 important rules. Don’t feed it after midnight, don’t get it wet and never expose it to sunlight. The rules are inevitably broken because well we would not have a movie without the rules getting broken. Personally, this is a feel-good movie that never gets old for me. The Mogwais are adorable (except once they are fed after midnight) but even the evil gremlins, as twisted as they may be, are comedic in their own way. The CGI effects are so perfect for their time, the acting is perfect, and the plot to the story is very well written. For me I give this movie a personal 5 out of 5 skulls!
What do you think of the movie? Let me know in the comments if you like or dislike it!
As I announced on my Instagram, I will be doing a #12daysofchristmashorror! That starts up on Thursday, December 12! Stay Tuned for my personal reviews!
