In my own opinion, the “I was scared” argument:

is used suspiciously often as ‘justification’ for whites to assault/kill blacks

says a lot more about the “scared” person than it does about the “scary” person

Any way you spin this, I question if someone with that high a fear/aggression response is a good choice for a career in law, let alone a seat on an ethics panel.

There’s a video of the encounter and it shows them actively pointing their guns at people who were just calmly walking past. I really can’t see how someone could view that calm video and claim that these people felt like their lives were in so much danger that it justified bringing out multiple guns.

My Portland friend can confirm this. 

But she also emphasizes that….unless you seek out the unrest, it doesn’t touch your everyday life. And she doesn’t bring this up to lessen the horror of what is happening. She’s kind of terrified. Because if you stray too close, you could get caught in the fuckery. An acquaintance of hers was snatched walking to catch a train after going out for a drink. Had nothing to do with the protest. Just went out for a drink and was tossed into a van on his way back home for the crime of existing too close to the place they were sweeping and wearing dark clothes while doing it. 

The point she’s trying to make is that the city isn’t on fire or anything. Nothing was out of control. Even though the protests are growing again, and pretty much every single resident of the city is pissed, there was and continues to be literally nothing to justify the feds’ presence. The protests were basically functioning as protests are supposed to. There was no rioting. The peaceful protests just stretched on longer than Cheeto Hitler liked, so he sent in the Gestapo. It just emphasizes how egregious it all is that Portland was basically doing okay, chugging along with constitutionally protected activity with just a light spattering of fairly easily reversible graffiti. Graffiti does not justify disappearing people into vans and pulling live guns on them. 

Portland is not on fire, but our Democracy certainly is.

Remember how Doctor Who fans all hated Martha for some reason.  When the “worst” she did was has feelings for their white fav.  She never even acted on those feelings, never broke up any ship, and even at a point came out and explained why she needed to move on from the toxic cycle of getting hung up on someone who didn’t return her feelings.  Also she was a badass without getting a sue inserted backstory to match in with the Doctor’s history or putting other characters down or having to constantly show them up.
