The main counter point I see on the gifted kids discourse can be boiled down to “I was a gifted kid don’t disregard my trauma” and tbh that’s valid I think it’s true school messed everyone up but y’all have to admit you have aesthetized your trauma and made it a defining part of your personality and relish in it instead of think through and connecting with people who were UNLIKE you in school. Instead of being like “damn my dehumanization as a tool for the school is connected to your educational neglect” and “damn I didn’t realize that while I was struggling with self worth issues you are too” because we have more in common with one another then our teachers wanted us to believe, they just hunker down into their world of “gifted pain”.
Talk about your stupid experiences sure no one cares but if you can’t contextualize your experience or see how your position was privileged at the EXPENSE of others, what the fuck are we doing here? What can get done??
