that's his sister
hold
genuinely put my whole fucking fist in my mouth when baran al hashimi showed up in that fucking tank top. and then cassie mckay in that fucking tank top. baran's mane of gorgeous curls. cassie's arm around victoria's shoulders. meltos scene. the fucking song choice. is she perverted like me? trinity TAKING DOWN MEL'S BRAID. this episode was for the lesbians oh my fucking god
today will go down in gay cinema history
Season 1 Ending: Trinity Santos invites her homeless coworker who she just met to live rent free in her apartment.
Season 2 Ending: Trinity Santos invites her lonely coworker to get drinks and sing karaoke so she won’t be alone on July 4th
And the fandom rabidly hates her and thinks she’s the worst most evil person to ever exist.
Dr. Melissa King + Dr. Trinity Santos in
THE PITT S2
maybe this wasn’t the worst day of javadi’s life, but it certainly wasn’t a good one. she was having all these issues with her mother. she was insecure about her capabilities. she was defensive over her social media presence (the one thing she’s done for herself). she was questioning if she even wanted to be a doctor.
and then dennis offered her half a monster, genuinely listened to her, and proved that he truly sees her.
he sees that she’s predisposed to psychology/psychiatry. he sees that she would be good at it. he sees that no one else would tell her that.
therapy dog whitaker, you should be charging PTMC for your services.
bear with me I am incredibly feverish right now
but trinity santos actively choosing not to go home when she knows she may relapse. trinity santos going out of her way to decompress in a healthy way, to make a new friend, when it would have been so, so easy to go home to that empty apartment and do something she'd regret.
to trinity (and to langdon, and to mckay), and to staying clean even when its fucking hard
she's so important to me
that rooftop scene in the finale was actually so important.
the rooftop is the setting in the pitt where people have these big emotional beats in which they reach out and attempt to find community. this is established in season one between jack and robby. in the beginning of episode one, we see jack facing the void and turning away from it to follow robby back to safety, robby does the same with jack at the end. season two reaffirms this interpretation.
all of these women we saw on the roof were on the brink this whole season. samira was personally and professionally adrift. mel was facing her malpractice suit and sister’s independence. perlah was facing national xenophobic sentiments and the pressure of being a highly capable nurse. dana was reeling from her assault and crumbling under the pressure of her position. mckay was realizing the depths of her emotional detachment. victoria was dealing with her insecurities and lack of freedom. trinity had the situationship and the frank confrontation and the child abuse trigger and the loss of dennis’s company.
all of these women were facing a profound loneliness, a profound void, a profound lack of support. they were all alone in this all day, briefly brushing against each other in moments that chafed and soothed in equal measure.
and just like jack and robby have each other to pull them back from the edge, these women can find that with each other in the exact same spot.
the pitt uses setting very well. the peds room represents the loss and gains of family. the bathroom represents the humanity denied to healthcare works. and the roof represents the community these providers find within each other.
they all have moments where they’re correcting, snapping, or disagreeing with each other this season. samira judges cassie for talking about her lack of intimacy, victoria and trinity have a more sarcastic relationship, mel flat out said trinity has a personality disorder, dana has been short with just about everyone. but in this one moment, they band together. they process the day, feel awe and exhaustion and sadness and wonder all at the same time, all together. they build an imperfect community out of tragedies.
it’s just impeccable story telling.
BONUS: Trinity letting Mel's hair down
THE PITT 2.15 – 9:00 P.M.
al-hashimi seeing robby proudly address medical misogyny and being like…’wait i sort of trust you to be my doctor rn,’ is so god damn funny (and real)
“is that the final lesson to these kids.”
telling robby he’s needed is the only thing that works. that’s what got him off the floor in season one. telling him he needs to be a teacher, he needs to be a mentor, he needs to be a doctor, he needs to be an example.
duke highlighting how everyone looks to him is the most helpful thing for robby specifically. they look to robby for their habits and their futures, and robby has forgotten that in all his emotional turmoil.
dennis and frank the whole time they were fighting in the break room
The writers of award winning show The Pitt had the BALLS to have their main character cruelly belittle a fan-favourite subordinate over her "mommy issues" and then waited THREE WEEKS to drop an off-hand comment about the reason why that might have happened. They DELIBERATELY avoided having a clichéd self-aware protagonist giving exposition about his tragic upbringing to explain his actions. They had another fan-favourite Dana refuse to let him off the hook even after she learned about it. They CHOSE to reveal the back story after the fallout because that adds a million more nuances and ideas and possible interpretations.
They gambled on the audience being able to piece things together and gave people the opportunity to reflect on their own biased responses towards previously decontextualised behaviours - a lesson we ALL need to learn because LIFE is just a series of decontextualised behaviours.
All for kids on tumblr dot com to call it bad writing
this is gonna make no sense but whitaker acts NOTICEABLY different around santos!! and only santos!!! he’s so much looser!!! his shoulders aren’t hunched!!!!! he’s relaxed!!!! he’s chill!! for once in this life he’s doesn’t look like a scared puppy!!! he looks like a human boy!! like even the tone of his voice is more mellow!!!!
now compare that to trinity…..who is more rigid around dennis because she knows he can see thru her walls of protection…her voice tense...she looks like one of those halloween cats with the super arched backs…oh my siblings….
