I try to think about that when writing new characters— is there anything inherently gendered about what this character is doing? Or is it a toaster?”

I have to think that a great portion of the transphobic “there is a trans epidemic now, there weren’t trans people wish i was growing up, everyone is jumping on the transgender trend” way of thinking is simply recency bias and their hysterical paranoia seeping into their perception of reality. You didn’t notice trans people around you as a child because you simply did not care and had not been fed years and years of propaganda and fear-mongering. Now you are seeing trans people everywhere because you are deciding everyone who does not conform to your standards of what a man or woman should look like is definitely trans. You are inventing trans people, transvestigating celebrities you don’t agree with. Of course there are trans people everywhere, you are creating them in your mind.
