JEREMY GILBERT
The Vampire Diaries, 3X05
“No, go on the Ferris Wheel with me, not them.” your pick
Jeremy had been queueing up for the Ferris Wheel for what seemed like hours. He had came with a date, that had just mysteriously vanished and was nowhere to be seen for the past thirty minutes. Jeremy offered to stay behind and keep their position in the queue, but even as more time passed, he wondered if his date had just bailed and left him there. It didn't do any good for his ego.
He turned on the spot as he heard a familiar voice behind him, his lips immediately curving into a comforting smile as he found Scott Mccall towering in the queue full of people. "My hero." Jeremy extended his smile, reaching his arm out to shake Scott's hand. "Fine, but on one condition... you gotta kiss me on the top. My date was meant to do that and apparently he can't do anything right." He shook his head, stepping aside to offer Scott his position at the front of the queue.
❲ continued on from here ❳ ❲ @hunterinstincts ❳
he was a rather solitary individual, disliking most interactions with people. this was one of the reasons he chose to live in such a remote area. the only exception had been the man lying in front of him, who had become an integral part of his life since they were kids. ❛ don’t worry jer, you’ll always be on my mind, like the persistent little annoyance you are, ❜ he said with a smirk as he came over to sit beside his friend and playfully tapped the back of his head.
he wouldn't confess to anyone else, but he had gone on a date to provoke jealousy in the other person. he had hoped to enjoy himself and be open to new experiences, yet all he could talk about was the other person. his infatuation was overwhelming and it was driving him crazy. ❛ speaking of private matters - any upcoming plans on the horizon? i'd love to come again, you, me and the stars ❜ he murmured, lowering his voice.
"Still the best annoyance you've ever had." Jeremy responded with quick retort, almost like a singsong. Truth be told, he hadn't thought much about Tyler before, even when they had their encounters. It wasn't until Tyler went on a date that he started to become more aware of how he felt about it, and he even started seeing him differently in such a short time.
The question raised earned a scoff from Jeremy. He immediately put his phone down, rolling his eyes in a circular motion as he rested his head on Tyler's lap once he took a seat next to him. The pat against the back of his head earned a soft hum, reaching his hand out to slide between Tyler's leg. "Smooth. And if I said no? What would you do then?" The corner of Jeremy's lip curved into a smirk, wondering if the other would rise to the challenge he had set.
Toby's grip held a firm resolve, unyielding as old oak and just as relentless. An inescapable vice around the vampire's cold, chalky throat. His voice, when he spoke again, was a low, hypnotic murmur, even and calm, the timbre rich and melodious, a stark contrast to the violence of his actions. "Now, let's not make this more unpleasant than it needs to be. I merely need some information."
The vampire thrashed wildly, his nails clawing futilely. The searing pain was unbearable, hissing and crackling like the embers of a dying fire. His gasps echoed in the dense silence, each more desperate than the last. They were harsh and ragged, rasping through clenched teeth and reverberating off the cold, indifferent trees.
"I was hoping we could do this the civilized way. Between vampire and, well... me. But if you insist..."
A brittle crunch shattered the eerie silence – the crisp snap of a twig underfoot. Toby's gaze flickered, his pupils constricted ever so slightly, fixating on the source of the sound. His posture remained rigid, the muscles in his arms bulging under the strain of holding the writhing vampire. Then, without so much as a word, a swift, fluid motion rippled through him, and he hurled the vampire towards the sneaking stranger.
"Voyeurism, now, is it? How terribly rude. If you wanted to watch, all you had to do was ask."
As if summoned, twin shadows tore through the undergrowth, materializing into a pair of snarling vampires. Their speed was inhuman, a terrifying blur against the backdrop of the dense forest. They surged towards Toby. His left elbow swung in a swift, full arc, smashing into the first vampire's nose with a sickening crunch. The figure recoiled, snarling in pain, blood seeping from the disfigured orientation of its nose.
"Though I must confess, I've always preferred doing rather than watching." Without missing a beat, Toby pivoted, his right elbow slicing through the air in a swift arc toward the second vampire. He struck, connecting with the creature's jaw, sending it sprawling backward. "Care to join the fray, or are shadows more your style?"
Jeremy felt his throat harden after a gulp once the mysterious stranger clocked him spectating the situation. He wasn't afraid, but he didn't want to cause any conflict with someone that had merely fascinated him. He figured if the stranger wanted to be hostile, he would have by now. When the vampire was thrown towards him, Jeremy immediately dropped his crossbow onto a pile of leaves, and reached his hand out to grab the vampire by the collar of his neck.
"Oh, you seemed to have a perfect handle on the situation. I didn't want to interrupt you." Jeremy have the stranger a wide smile, as he thrust his arm forward to punch the vampire square in the nose, just in case he tried any funny business like trying to run away. A swift glance told Jeremy that the stranger had a duo to deal with, so his full attention went on the vampire he was handling. Both of his hands gripped the front of his shirt, lunging the vampire back against the bark of the tree like a sack of potatoes. He wasn't trying to overdo a usual kill, but Jeremy was definitely showing off. It was rare when he got the chance to meet a possible friend. It had made his day.
He maneuvered up to the tree, using his broad left arm to block the arm of the vampire that was attempting to punch him. His free hand reached inside his pocket, retrieving a wooden stake to plunge straight into the vampires heart with ease. His eyes remained frozen on the vampire, whose skin mummified once the stake reached his heart. He made his way back to the crossbow on the ground, tucking his foot under it up to pull it back up to his grip. "I'd offer to give you a hand but you can handle yourself." Jeremy couldn't contain the approval that came with his tone, nor the way his head nodded as he spectated the fight like he was watching an action movie. He leaned his side against the side of the tree, ready to intervene if necessary.

some random writing tips for dialogue & descriptions
i am by no means an expert but! i see people down on themselves for various parts of their writing and i figured i could make a little post with suggestions. particularly how to bring the two together.
UNIQUE DIALOGUE:
slang is, for me, one of the most important parts about figuring out your muses voice. figuring out if they use any, which ones and when. for example: “i aint gonna do that” vs “i’m not gonna do that.” and even just from that sentence, are they even the type of person to say “gonna” or do they tend to say “going to.” figuring out how they use contractions is helpful (i.e. “i’m not gonna do that” vs “i am not gonna do that” for inflection).
the next thing, pay attention to filler words. they can honestly make the difference between wooden and natural dialogue. “um” “uh” “like” “so” “well” etc. it can also be phrases “i mean” “i guess” plus combining more than one kind of filler “um well” “so like” etc.
now if your muse is an oc i strongly recommend drawing inspiration from your faceclaim’s speech patterns. if there is a specific piece of their media which feels the most like the muse, watch it and pay attention to how the FC talks. the same will go for deciding mannerisms for your descriptions. if you don’t vibe with the faceclaim’s speech patterns, try finding someone who does and have a voice claim in mind!
DESCRIBING DIALOGUE:
describing how your muse is speaking can strengthen dialogue as well as better help your writing partner know how their muse will respond to it. obviously we all know adjectives are helpful with this “he said dryly” “she said hesitantly” etc. but if you add some small mannerisms into it, i find it enriches the paragraph. “he says dryly, shaking his head a little” “she says hesitantly. the corner of her lips twitch into a nervous smile.”
figure out if they smile when they talk. if they furrow their brows while they’re putting words to a thought. do they look down or up when thinking? do they tend to look directly at someone when talking, or do their eyes shift around a little? if they do like to look away when talking that’s when you can take time to decide what they’re looking at and add little bits in there: “he says dryly, glancing away with a shake of his head. his eyes settle across the street, absentmindedly watching a dog sniff at the base of a tree.”
describing their voice also adds some pizzazz. ‘his voice is a low timbre when he speaks, a firmness in the words “well, i aint gonna do that.” he shakes his head, the muscle in his jaw flexing.’
GETTING STUCK:
if you find yourself staring at a reply having no idea what to add for dialogue, i’ve found sometimes it’s because you haven’t figured out how your muse feels about what’s going on. it’s okay to take time to examine what their internal thought process would be. and it’s even more okay if they themselves don’t know how to feel or what to say. this is an excellent time to remember filler words because it’s what we do in real life. when you add the mannerisms with them struggling to find words it can bring it all together.
decide how they look when they’re thinking. bring out those little actions they might do while they’re fumbling for the dialogue. what type of words are they looking for? something appropriate, something funny to lighten the mood, something direct, or deflective? “he shakes his head a little, brows furrowing as he searches for an adequate response. ‘shit, uh…well.’ his voice trails off, softer than usual. ‘i dunno what to say, man. honestly.’”
everyone’s writing voice will be different and that’s good! it’s okay! it’s easy to get down on yourself comparing to others. but the fun of rp is how interactive it is. having other peoples perspectives and styles makes it so enjoyable. it’s okay to explore. figure out what fits you and your muse. you’re doing great and the bottom line is to have fun!
“You’ve been pouting ever since I went out on that date, what’s up?” (From Mike)
"Define pouting." Jeremy liked to believe that he totally wasn't pouting. That he wasn't reeking of jealousy the second Mike had told him that he had gone out on a date. He tried his hardest to act normal about it, even if he had been keeping their conversations short. There was no words to describe how empty he felt, with how the situation was going. He never anticipated that it would turn out like the way it did. They both came into it with boundaries, and then things got more complicated for Jeremy. It was the last thing he needed. "I'm just saying, that even if we agreed to keep whatever we have casual, I would have liked a heads up if we were gonna start seeing other people." Jeremy shrugged his shoulders loosely. It wasn't like he had an ego or anything, but Jeremy had already turned down a few days since he started seeing Mike, and he felt like kicking himself after failing to discuss things out and put some rules in place.
“The date didn’t go well. Yeah, he didn’t like how I kept mentioning all of our adventures.” // from tyler
Jeremy's attention kept cycling between his phone and Tyler during their conversation. He was laid out on the couch on his stomach, keeping his phone close in hand, as his legs curved out and dangled in the air. His blue gym shorts did a great job of displaying his plump globes. He would have lied to himself if he denied getting into this position just to try and tease the other. If he wasn't hunting vampires, Jeremy was spending his time using his influencer status to try and connect with more people. He didn't think of himself of a guy that had a lot of friends, but his life kept changing drastically, and it was changing him.
"I hope you didn't share every detail of our adventures. Some things are better left private." He smiled up towards Tyler, using his thumb to cycle through his Instagram feed. "Good to know you still got me in the mind, even on the dates." He extended lips into a grin, almost smug like, even if it was a poor situation for his date.
I had this dream where you kissed me, and I kind of want to try it now.” (from Luke)
Jeremy raised his left eyebrow at the boldness of Luke's words. He felt every strand of hair on his arm flare up, and it took every ounce of self control not to blush at him. Even if the words did feel serious, Jeremy had to play it cool. He understood sometimes that people had a funny way of playing a joke, and it was no different with Luke. "That would be the last thing I expected... you dreaming of me."
He cradled his own arms across his chest, as he leant against the door frame. "I gotta be honest. I always thought you had a thing for Tyler Lockwood." He moved his hand to scratch the back of his head, as he pondered on the thought of the two of them together. "I mean, if you feel like opening up, I'm always good at keeping secrets." He planted a smirk on his lips, passing it off as if he were joking, but his thoughts of them were completely real.

The misty air of the Coastal Redwoods in San Francisco was thick and heavy, a palpable weight clinging to Toby's skin and invading his lungs with a damp mustines. A veil of delicate fog hovered above the towering trees as if the night exhaled a slow, lazy breath. Dissonant symphonies of nocturnal creatures echoed through the tangle of Redwoods, punctuated by the distant hooting of an owl and the haunting howl of a lone coyote. The mingling scents of wet earth, rotting leaves, and the sweet perfume of night-blooming jasmine irresistibly wild.
Amidst this symphony of night sounds, a different rhythm disturbed the nocturnal serenity. The frantic drumming of a heart-pumping fear-tainted blood echoed in Toby's ears. His hand, cold and unyielding as iron, closed around the trembling form of his prey, pressing the vampire against the rough bark of a gnarled tree. The creature's flesh was like spoiled silk beneath his palm, while the brittle snap-crackle of breaking bones was a discordant melody that sent a thrill of satisfaction coursing through Toby. Even here, in this untamed corner of creation, the age-old dance of predator and prey played out in its grimly beautiful cadence.
"I do tire, you see, of the American pleasantries," Toby began, his low, rich timbre brushing against the night air like velvet over gravel. His tone was tinged in a cultivated British accent, a relic from a past life that seemed far removed from Califorina's preserved wilds. "Always asking, always chattering. One does find it rather wearisome. Yet, I've come to understand that fire... fire can be quite a persuasive instrument."
A literal spark in his palm echoed the mischief that danced in his eye. Gently, carefully, as if he were handling a newborn chick, he tightened his grip around the vampire's pale neck. The heat radiating from his hand intensified, growing incrementally hotter. Wisps of smoke began to unfurl from the contact point, curling upwards and quickly dissipating into the night. The sweet, acrid odor of burning flesh began to permeate the air, mixing with the forest's earthy perfume in a grotesque olfactory cocktail.
"My dear boy," Toby began, maintaining his firm grip as he looked into the vampire's terrified eyes. "I am well aware that you do not possess what I seek. However, you reek of its magic. It's as if you've been rolling about in a field of roses; the scent is so palpable." He paused, allowing the weight of his words to sink in. "Now, would you kindly be so good as to inform me of its whereabouts?"
The years of recluse had drastically changed Jeremy, from the person he once knew in Mystic Falls. It was easy to tell from one look in his eye that he had experienced a lot, had felt a lot of pain, and now he was using the circumstances he was in to help protect the innocent from supernatural threats. His clothing was rugged, but he had a perfectly groomed stubble. His hair was short brown, and his crossbow tucked nicely against his left shoulder. He traced through the misty woods, as the coldness of the season was no stranger to him.
There had been animal attacks circulating in the nearby area. Bite marks in the neck, blood trails, missing people. His years spent training under Alaric helped him navigate situations like these, and thanks to his own superhuman agility and strength, he was confident enough that he was able to handle these on his own. He had been doing it for years, and so far, he hadn't let himself down.
Jeremy removed his crossbow from the rest of his shoulder as he maneuvered closer to the vampire nest he had been tracking for days. All of his fingers curved around the grip, whilst he curved his index finger from his other hand around the trigger. For a place that was meant to be crawling with vampires, things were eerily quiet. Still, Jeremy didn't want to risk his life and be caught off guard, so he checked his sides with the crossbow as he investigated the area.
It was only when he moved closer in the nest that he heard a voice nearby. It wasn't anything familiar he had heard before. It was a British accent, and Jeremy's thoughts immediately went to how charming it was, until he pushed them to the back of his mind and focused on the task at hand. The thin branch on the floor crushed under the weight of his foot as he crept out of the corner, moving his crossbow around the corner as he attempted to sneakily inspect what was going on.
With a flame circulating in hand of the stranger, Jeremy was certainly impressed with how well he had easily subdued the vampire against the tree. It didn't take a genius to notice how terrified he was, he could practically smell it in the air. He wondered if the flame-wielder was from the school of the gifted. Jeremy hadn't met many students in his travels, but there was always a first time for everything. Still, he wasn't too comfortable announcing himself if he hadn't already. Not when he wasn't entirely sure if he was going to turn hostile.
