Tycho squirmed, eyes and eyebrows raising as he felt Astarion's deft fingers fiddle even more. "Good luck," he remarked with a hint of a smirk, "If you find anything that actually works, my mother would be delighted to know about it. You'll have to write her."
And no wonder, as Astarion brought out the comb. Tycho's hair was a disaster. There was no style to speak of at all, not even one that had simply grown out from too long away from a barber. It was just a messy mop of shaggy brown hair, perpetually in his face. The only things that kept it out of his bright eyes was the occasional band of scrap cloth, used to control sweat, or those ridiculous magnifying glasses he used from time to time.
This endeavor would likely fail, it seemed, unless Astarion found some grooming products, or perhaps a sharp pair of scissors.

alright, i don't normally make posts like this, but i've yet to see one over here about this specific issue so i figured i'll try my hand at it.
on november 1st (two days from now as i'm writing this), SNAP benefits in the united states (also known as food stamps or EBT) will not be going out due to the ongoing government shutdown. this will affect over 40 million people, including disabled people, the elderly, and children that cannot support themselves or their families. SNAP recipients who do and can support themselves and their families by working don't make enough to buy food out of their own pockets. this means that over 40 million people are at risk of starving this november. i implore you, if you have the means, to do everything in your power to help by reaching out to your local food banks, food pantries, or soup kitchens and donating food / money or volunteering your time there. this will help so, so many. however, there are also plenty of SNAP recipients who cannot rely on the aforementioned sources for any number of reasons (such as dietary restrictions or lack of transportation) that will need more direct help, and so i ask this : if you, personally, know anyone that receives food assistance, reach out to them yourself and offer what you can. it may be difficult, as many SNAP recipients feel a great deal of shame about needing help, but sometimes doing the difficult thing is the best thing. if you aren't able to do any of this, just spread the word. we need to take care of each other right now.

"Yeah, that's only the half of it. You're also looking at someone who is used to growing up in the Upper City of the Gate. I'm used to fancy parties and luxury, but even so...I'd still take music halls and lively taverns over that or this tadpole." She sighed, golden eyes flickering with a momentary sadness and the weight of everything on her shoulders. "Still doesn't change the fact a cage is still a cage, even a golden one."
And that was why she didn't want to return back to Baldur's Gate. She had fled from the city for good reason, even if no one else would understand why she would do so to begin with. Regardless for having a nice warm bed, food at the table, and living in comfort, it had it's dark side to it, something no one saw behind the performance of it all.
At his mention of a headache, Synnove nods. "I believe we will find a cure. I'm not giving up until we do. All we can do is continue on and stand and fight." She would face every devil or true soul that tried to stop her. Pulling out her lyre however, there was no denying the obvious. "What did you used to do...before all this?" The distraction would help.
He snorted; the 'golden cage' thing was something he'd heard before, from other rich knobs. While he had some empathy for feeling trapped, it was a damn sight better to be trapped in a pretty cage than a dank dungeon. At least with the pretty cage you were educated, fed well, clothed warmly, with a soft bed and a solid roof over your head. The mold and rats he'd shared his formative years with were notably less pleasant 'cagemates', especially when the hunger was so great it made him double over.
"I used to attend those fancy parties too," Tycho nodded earnestly as he finally stopped fiddling with his prosthetic, "Though I was decidedly not invited," An impish smile curled his lips, a mischievous sparkle in his eyes. "I did leave them with the most wonderful party favors, though." Coin, trinkets, jewelry, all splendid party gifts, if he did say so himself.
"I was not brought up in the Upper City. I'm not even sure if where I grew up even qualifies as Baldur's Gate proper. The closest temple to us was just a little shrine to Ilmater." A shrine to the Crying God, in any city, was a sign of just how poor a neighborhood was, for how much suffering was there for the god to comfort. "For some reason, I didn't quite fit in to those... fancy parties."

"You could've blown us up." Astarion still can't believe it. The creche isn't even a bad memory yet, is still within their sights, but Astarion feels like it's been years. "You could've-- Tycho, stop walking with purpose away from me."
He's whining complaining, the dramatics clear, but still. He's got his hands on his hips and everything. "Can we at least agree to not touch the things that control the power of the sun from now on? Please? At least while I'm still in the way?"
"We're all alive though!... Essentially alive, anyway." One could argue semantics regarding Astarion's own existence after all... and Withers'. "You made it out, no worse for wear, right?" One could argue about that, too.
"You--" Tycho finally turned to address Astarion properly, only to cut himself off, bursting into laughter at the vampire's posture. It was properly dramatic and absurd, and in that moment, reminded Tycho of nothing so much as his mother, upset and very annoyed at her son's 'creativity' run amok.
Nothing gainful came out of him for several moments, cheeks pink and tears gathering in the corner of his eyes as he nigh cackled, unable to get the ridiculous mental image of Astarion dressed as his mother out of his mind's eye. Any attempts at explanation were useless, stuttered and coughed, until at long last his laughter died down into a few trailing, sputtered giggles.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" Tycho coughed again, using his hand to wipe his eyes, and down his face, as he wrestled control back from his sense of humor. Clearing his throat, a few times, he caught his breath. "Look, I... I take risks, I know I do. I couldn't resist. I'll... try to be more mindful of where you are, next time."

"Aren't we all? Well...unless you count the Absolute and whoever follows them." The elven bardess said, glancing at him. She couldn't have imagined her life going the way it had been with going on this journey, much less getting a tadpole in her brain. All she wanted was to be free of it, but dreaded having to return to Baldur's Gate. She had ran away from home for pretty valid reasons. "Besides that, how are you holding up?"
'All that', what a simple way to put things, really. The parasite in his brain, looking to make him into a mindflayer or at least a mindless thrall like the poor fools they'd seen so far. 'True Souls'. Pah.
"As well as could be expected," he admitted, frowning as he fiddled with one of the many tiny latches his prosthetic hand possessed, the metallic fingers each flexing in turn. "Killer headache half the time now. Not much different than normal really, but this one doesn't have the pay off of having a new toy to play with at the end of the day."
A hazard of the job perhaps. Tycho tinkered with everything he could get his hands on, even in their brief acquaintance so far, Synnove had seen that. Hazardous substances and fumes were part and parcel with invention, all likely to cause headaches. This tadpole was not nearly so productive as inventing, however.
"And what of you? A change from music halls and lively taverns, eh?"

"Hmm?" Tycho's head jerked, and he quickly looked up from the dismantled contraption in his lap. Eyes wide, he looked confused for a moment, blinking rapidly until his eyes cleared, adjusting to the sudden change in focus.
It was far too easy for him to fixate on one little thing or another, and when that happened, everything else fell to the wayside, either unnoticed or intentionally ignored. After one particularly lively encounter with a bear, crashing through their campsite near Sundermount, Hawke was understandably cut out of the nightly watch rotation.
"Um... breakfast?" He threw the proverbial dart at the wall, a random guess as to what Fenris might have been talking about. Unfortunately for him, the rest of their group, Anders and Varric this particular evening on the Coast, had already settled down into their bedrolls for the night, sadly depriving Tycho of any hints as to what he missed.
"Sorry..." Without waiting for an answer, Tycho sighed as his shoulders dropped. He didn't mean to tune Fenris out, he never meant to. Beyond the apology though, he made no further excuses. All of his friends knew the 'why' by now.
"I wasn't listening," he admitted sheepishly, "But... I am listening now. What were you saying?"

1. What’s something he always notices first when he enters a room?
Probably typical for many 'adventurer' type of characters, but the possible exits is probably first.
Other than that, I'd probably say smell. Scent can give up so many details: if someone is cooking/has cooked recently, what it was, the types of people in the room (perfumes, body odor, etc), and the activities that go on there often, even if they're not going on right now.
2. What’s a smell he secretly love that most people don’t?
Grease/oil in his present verses. If he had a modern verse, he'd probably like the smell of gasoline (petrol) too. Anything that is useful for or powers gears, engines, and other mechanical parts.
3. What sound always makes him smile, no matter what?
Glass tinking together. His mother had a windchime made of pieces of broken stained glass, so it's a reminder of home, regardless of how long it's been since he's been there.
4. What food does he secretly crave when he’s upset?
Spicy anything really. Unrealistically and unpleasantly spicy anything. Peppers, hot sauce, and so on. It's his own brand of self-punishment.
5. Do they fidget? With what?
All. The. Time. Tycho has trouble sitting still unless he's actively working on something. So he'll fidget with his body, drumming fingers, bouncing leg, and of course his prosthetic, making sure everything seems in working order.

"I sure hope so..." Tycho's lips quirked in a smirk, but he waited no longer, and tossed the small, coin like objects in his hands, as easy and casual as if he were skipping stones. They flew through the air, glinting just once in the sunshine, before the barest *plink* sounded. They hit each other, right in the middle of the gathered goblins at the grove's gate, and then in the space of a breath, they exploded.
Screams rung out, as flames and viscera shot out from the detonation, bathing the mercenaries nearest the gate in gore, but giving them the opportunity to charge in. Those goblins that hadn't been killed in the initial blast were either wounded, dazed, or distracted, and now were ripe for the taking.
"Come on then, let's see it through." Tycho gave Lonan a somewhat less than companionable shove in the shoulder, and hopped down from their vantage point, already loading a bolt into the hand crossbow that had emerged from his prosthetic arm with the press of a small lever.
