I truly truly believe that the most important thing you can do in fandom is be a cheerleader. comment on fics. reblog art and rave in the tags. support the people making the things you want to see. this is how you keep a fandom alive. this is how you get more of what you want. you never know: that person could have decided to make more just because you liked it.

I think it’s easier to enjoy Bellatrix × Hermione when you take it outside the confines of canon. Some ships just work better in fanfic and fandom than they ever could in the source material. Bellamione is a perfect example of that.

I don’t enjoy the ship in canon (for obvious reasons), but there are so many well-written fics exploring their dynamic that I can’t help but be drawn in. A lot of authors manage to keep the core of their personalities intact, while twisting elements of the canon story just enough to create space for their connection. And honestly…it works.

Opposites often attract. Hermione’s logic, morality, and need for control clash with Bellatrix’s chaos, cruelty, and unrestrained passion and that contrast creates tension, conflict, and chemistry. Also opening the door for character development, particularly in the form of a redemption arc for Bellatrix. A compelling trait of Hermione is her curiosity and in fanfic, you can imagine her being drawn to the mystery and complexity of Bellatrix Black, even if it defies everything she’s been taught to believe.

But beyond the contrast, they also share surprising similarities. Both are fiercely intelligent and exceptionally powerful witches as well as being deeply loyal to those they care about. Hermione to her friends and cause, Bellatrix to Voldemort (or, in some AUs, to her family or ideals). They’re both emotionally intense, driven by strong convictions, and unwilling to back down from a fight. And, they both experience a kind of isolation: Hermione for being a Muggle-born overachiever, and Bellatrix for her fanaticism and instability. That loneliness gives them something to recognise in each other, even if it’s unspoken.

That’s why Bellamione thrives in fanfic: it takes two powerful, passionate, and opposite women and explores what happens when they collide, and maybe even connect, in a world where the rules are allowed to bend.
