   -   -   —  L stumbled slightly as his body was pulled along. His eyes narrowed, and his mind strained for an excuse; but how could he tell her that he didn’t want to go? That he didn’t want to go outside at all? The gesture was just too kind, that he couldn’t; and refused to be rude about it.

- - -- She frowned, a little disappointed. However, she was inside person herself, and understood where he was coming from. He'd probably feel awkward in public, but she was a little more versatile. She had decently good people skills, and could do really whatever she needed, and then return home still comfortable. So, brushing away any possibility that he just didn't want to spend time with her, which would have been much more disappointing, she brightened more, and asked:

"✺ -- How about a compromise? I can just go out and bring it back. Just tell me what you want, and that can be the physical gift of us being officially friends."

  -  -  L tilted his head slightly to the side upon noticing the change of pigmentation in her cheeks. The blush was in fact very noticeable, and prominent, but the detective decided not to comment, since that would probably only make it worse. 

                                                    “♚— The pleasure is mine.”

   -  -  She smiled, and reached for his spidery hand. Deciding that perhaps that was a bit too personal, she held his wrist lightly instead. Leading him behind her she told him cheerily,

She lazily dropped her head down onto his shoulder and snuggled him for warmth, "Ignore me, it's early and I haven't got a clue what the hell I'm saying."

Delight flowed through her at his compliment and good wishes towards her. She was certain her cheeks were now rosier than normal, though she hoped he didn't notice. Having mild rosacea led to people thinking a: you have the most natural blush in the world and you're always wearing it, or b: you're really easy to flatter. The latter was true, of course, and she smiled at the fluffy-haired man before her.

"✺ --Thank you, Ryuzaki!" That certainly made her day.

"Kate!" L popped up from behind a tower of boxes, his nursing cap almost falling off. He was surrounded in blankets and pillows also. "No girls allowed in the fort. It is convention."

"Stressed? I’m not stressed. Why would you think so?" L narrowed his eyes in confusion at her, as if he found nothing wrong with what he was doing.

He listened to her happily, resting his head on her shoulder and closing his eyes.

"You have a nice voice." He murmured when she paused.

She smiled as his head laid on her shoulder, his thick hair tickling her neck and eliciting a snicker. She didn't doubt there were probably some sugar cubes stuck in his hair. 

"Thanks," she said quietly, and reached up to stroke his hair.

"It looks like he melted Mello’s chocolate. He’ll be dead soon anyway. We better hide him before-" 

"MAAATT."

Still clutching the cuddly Near to her side, she spun around to face Mello. He certainly did not look pleased at the puddle of chocolate with a rumpled square of foil floating in it.

"I can get you another chocolate bar, Mello. Matt, please clean that up, I'll help you after I get Mello a chocolate bar." She scurried down the hall, and located a chocolate bar, some cleaning rags she politely asked Near to hold, and returned to the area of the explosion. Almost immediately the chocolate bar was passed off to Mello. She set Near down, promising cuddles in a few minutes, and cleaned up the explosion mess.
