Tobyâs mom had left him a list items she needed him to pick up today from the store along with money to pay for it. He found it when he woke up. He didnât mind helping out his mom and nana. They were his only family, so he pulled his own weight and then some. He ate some cereal for breakfast and then threw some clothes on before heading toward the super market.
When he got to the store he grabbed a cart and took the list out of his sweatshirt pocket. It wasnât that long of a list, so it wouldnât take him long to complete it.Â
He made his way around, making sure to pick up what was on the list exactly to the brands. His grandmother was very specific. He got the aisle where his next item on the list was and turned it. There was only one item to get in this aisle so he wanted to get in and out quick. He reached from where he was holding onto his cart to grab the baking powder when somebody confronted him. He tilted his head and looked down at the girl.
âHanna? Iâm sorry. I didnât mean to cut you off.â He sheepishly added. He handed her a box of baking powder too. âHow have things been?â He didnât know what led up to her deciding to move to the Southside, but it wasnât his place to judge or speculate.
Upon realising it was Toby, her defences lowered some more and she threw him a grateful smile when he passed her the box of baking powder. âItâs okay, no harm no foul right?â she replied, placing it in the cart before her. Toby always struck her as an odd one, part of the Southside but also kind of not at the same time. He was there, but never truly there. But she felt an affinity with him, especially nowadays when she had changed and become a permanent fixture in the south. She remembered the days clearly, he had been one of Alisonâs favourite victims when she had been there. Not particularly joining in, Hanna still didnât do anything to stop it. It was only when she reached her own decision and turning point and had enough of Alisonâs constant bullying of hers did she finally make a point.
But Toby remained generous towards her, despite that and she valued him more than most. ââCrazy, as per usual. Dramatic, but then, itâs Savannah so itâs almost normal for drama to be around. But Iâm good. How about you? Any fresh gossip from the dark side at Groves?âÂ
