@hyenavoice
there’s a whole lot of life left to live. a lot more art to make. a lot more love to give. a lot more oceans to see.
I saw this one post ages ago where someone said that video games can’t have plus-size characters, because “how could they do cool action?” I can’t find the post, but it inspired me to show you guys some gifs of real people.
All this and also like videogames dont have to have realistic actions.
Videogame characters regularly do things that real life people cannot do.
If youre someone who can accept link turning into a wolf but cant accept someone fat doing flips and parkour and shit maybe youre just fatphobic and you dont actually care whether or not plus sized people can do those things.
All of these people are fucking incredible and let’s also point out really quick that they’re in way better shape than most skinny people so let’s kill the myth that fat people are always unhealthy because it’s not true. None of this is possible unless you are in excellent physical condition. Health should be measured in performance, not pounds.

The leaves fall, as do we all.
when someone is like “having interests is good actually, we should all be like our 12-year-old selves and be weird and like things” and then they follow it up with “but not cringe things. i have sex. you guys are cringe and i have sex” like VERY have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too in terms of trying to express an earnest emotion while also avoiding all possible Internet Derision in reaction to said emotion

I'm gonna kill myself
I see lots of folk clowning on this post but like jesus fuck!!! let people have fun! as someone who was into this stuff very briefly at the end of its decline around 2013, (I was 10, and not allowed to do much of what i wanted to do in regards to it), it absolutely fucking blows seeing people who were literally a PART OF IT pull a 180 and choose to be fucking douchebags.
There is nothing wrong with styling yourself like a 2009 scene kid or covering yourself in spikes and rainbows and red/black combinations or anything else. Why? Because that stuff is sick as hell! If you genuinely look at people having fun and exploring a style they just barely missed out on or potentially indulging in a culture that made them happy in the past, then maybe you should try and do something that makes you happy instead and let folk do their things!
Everyone spouts shut about cringe culture being dead and that folk should do what they want as long as it’s harmless, and then turn around and act like this. Seriously. It’s so fucking tiring.
Everyone everywhere has always had a concept of “the last straw” or “death by a thousand cuts” or “the tipping point” and yet when people tried to coin the very reasonable term “microaggression” for how even “small” forms of discrimination build up and can ruin someone’s life, it got mocked and sneered at so hard that the term fizzled and died and now there’s no convenient way to explain what it’s like for someone to experience an insidiously slow burn of hostile or ignorant treatment without it summoning the 4chan meme brigade
this whole thing has been shit i just… dont know how you can act like having to consider that race may play into interactions between a white person and a black person is infantile identity politics, but the fact that social position plays into the interactions between a tme person and a trans woman is immutable fact
like why is one of these idpol that should be laughed at and the other not
either power structures factor into interpersonal interactions or not, you dont get to pick and choose and endlessly obfuscate over that
even IF you are convinced that you are 100% in the right and the universe incarnate has come down and declared you Objectively Correct, its worrying to see how easy it is to dismiss and laugh off accusations of antiblackness, no introspection of how bias could have played into the interaction without intention of it
its worrying how the idea that antiblackness may in any way color your perceptions of the world is entirely laughable, something to meme about with your friends
i dont think this is something that ever should be treated so casually, so jokingly, like antiblackness is this trite, banal thing that only exists in america
I don’t think healthy people every really get chronic illness.
I have a friend I know from when we were both 6. She is the only person living nearby and so she saw me go from walking through limping to wheelchair on a daily basis. I keep her updated on my health even tho we rarely hang out anymore. She was gonna come over yesterday and I had to cancel. She asked if I can’t hang out later that day. When I said i won’t feel better later, that if I feel that bad in the morning later will only get worse she got annoyed and “joked” that I’m just finding excuses. And I was surprised, she knows all about me being disabled after all? So, a bit taken aback, I told her it’s a normal thing for me.
“But you got the diagnosis now, aren’t you better?? I thought you’ll get better now”
She was honestly surprised and it made me realize a thing. They don’t get it. They don’t get that getting diagnosed only equals benefits like welfare or parking spot for us, and sometimes better pain meds but that is just like pushing luck. That it’s a forever thing. That that one day we felt good a week ago was just a bright spot and doesn’t mean we won’t need our aids anymore, cause chronic illness is not linear and will make a great comeback in next four hours, and the next good day is planned on when we’re 70. Cause when abled people are sick, they get better. And our illness is just an excuse for them. And when we say we will never get better they think we’re being dramatic and pessimistic. And I don’t think they’ll ever get it, cause to get it you need to live it. And I want my friends to stay healthy and not go through hell.
This is definitely okay to reblog and abled people are encouraged to reblog cause maybe it’ll help others understand
Hello it’s me Lexa and this post is relevant again as I just had the Legit Same Talk with someone and I exhausted my number of fucks to give
Oh my god I literally had this conversation with my mother an hour ago.
Mum: “So yeah, I was thinking that when I come down we could do visit an art gallery or a museum or something.”
Me: “I’ll have to see if I’m up for it, I’ve been going through a rough patch. I might not have the energy.”
Mum: “But you love art galleries.”
Me: “I know. What part of ‘it hurts to walk long distances now’ is hard for you though?”
I routinely have people well aware of my disabilities/chronic illness congratulate me on how I “seem to be doing so much better these days!” on a good pain/energy day and then basically try to stage an intervention a week later on a bad one. “You seem to be on a decline lately, I’m just concerned you’re not taking care of yourself!” And then a week later on a good day again congratulate me on how I really seem to have improved and must be making a real effort to keep on top of my health, with no irony or self-awareness whatsoever. The narrative of “getting better” is so ingrained that healthy abled people will ignore massive amounts of cognitive dissonance to apply it where it makes absolutely no sense.
And this belief in “getting better” is actively harmful because that’s how we get shitty things like people having their benefits “reviewed” and taken away because it’s been ten years and they’re not going to the doctor “enough.” They don’t need to get constant treatment after they know what they have, but that doesn’t mean they’re magically cured or just “not trying”!!! It means they’re ill, they’re always going to be ill, and going to the doctor every week isn’t going to change that (not to mention it’s expensive af)!
I see this in my job much more frequently than I should (we help people fight benefit denials and occasionally get back benefits after these “reviews”). Sometimes it’s justified - the person went back to work - but more often, it’s not, it’s just that some worker somewhere decided that this person or that person should be all better by now, and that’s just not how chronic illness works, so ending this idea that chronically ill people will just get better would help put a stop to shit like that.
They cannot comprehend that we do not control our health. In their world, when people are sick it’s because they caught it from someone else, and if you stay sick it’s your fault for not taking care of yourself. They cannot fathom a world where you can
do everything right and still be sick.
“don’t let your disability define you! Fight! INspirEd! Taking back my life from Cancer!” This narrative is everywhere in Able culture. If you JUST tried harder you’d get better. THAT is what they live and believe.
Therefore to them if we are “still” sick or “Sick Again” it’s because WE did something wrong. They can’t comprehend a world where you can’t Earn health as a reward for performing purity, kale and yoga.
i think a lot of ppl need to learn how to make minors feel safe online without making them feel stupid? like when i was 11/12/13 i shouldnt have been on tumblr. but i was. and everyone going "oh sweetie youre too young to be here :) go play neopets" just made me want to stay out of spite. you know what wouldve actually helped? someone approaching me and being like "hey, there are dangerous people and things on here. this probably isnt a good environment for you". like im not saying disregard that theyre a minor here, obviously dont do that, but dont be condescending. part of keeping minors safe is treating them with respect
note number 2. not even the "No more kids in cages!!!" bullshit was true
Oops! Looks Like Replacing 'Cheeto Hitler' With A Spineless Dotard Was Useless After All!
Honestly if your response to "I dont have many skills that would be useful in a post-capitalist society" is "so I guess I'll just be pursuing my intellectual hobbies as my contribution to my community" instead of "so I guess I'll be doing dishes in the cafeteria/janitorial work/manual labor" you should really reconsider how you come at the very concept of work and society as a leftist. Is socialism no longer appealing if you have to do the work you previously took for granted? Is the liberation of the proletariat not worth it if you have to contribute something besides your dream job in academia or leading support groups? Are you really "too good" for "that type" of work, even if it is for a world where no one starves?
we will still have hobbies/run d&d/learn other languages under socialism - in fact, we would likely have far more time to pursue them than under capitalism - but when we think of our future labor, we ought to consider the "menial" tasks that keep society running; loading boxes onto trucks, cooking in a factory kitchen, packaging medical supplies for distribution, building new homes as a worker and not an architect. these jobs will never disappear, and to assume that someone else will do them while you lead workshops or go to school to become a trained professional is to announce your continuing loyalty to petite bourgeois ethics. The dream of socialism is not a fantasy where you continue to do the exact same thing you want to do under capitalism, but now with a clear conscience about it. It's to build a better world as one global movement, to lift up the most oppressed and downtrodden from the muck; a task which requires, above all else, heavy and thankless work that we must be prepared and happy to undertake if we ever hope to succeed.
