Tbh there is an overabundance of media about a nonhuman creature's deep desire and journey to become human, and so very few of the opposite

Many of those movies/shows are very good and I like them but the whole time I'm feeling like it's tragic in a way. The thought of a creature giving up its otherness to assimilate into humanity is really fuckin sad to me. Or a human getting the chance to be something else freaking out and rejecting it.

Just makes me feel all the more alienated, y'know. Like "damn why don't I relate to this allegedly universal enthusiasm for being human" and "why is the desire to be anything else always wrong"

I want more stuff where a human chooses to stop being human, and this is portrayed as a reasonable choice, and the person is happy as a result.

OP this is a good post but Sisko has way more than 3 modes.

History Nerd (Trials and Tribble-ations, Explorers)

Benny Russel (Far Beyond the Stars, Shadows and Symbols)

Conflicted commander (any episode with the Maquis, In the Pale Moonlight, Homefront/Paradise Lost)

Antifa (Past Tense, many others)

Conflicted Messiah (a bunch)

Also this list completely leaves out the most important character of DS9: Morn

Yeah I don’t agree with Sisko only having three moods thing, and yeah this definitely leaves out O’Brien and I feel like O’Brien and Rom and Nog are absolutely worth several points each. That being said, if there was a category for “awkward sidekick character that grows into a badass” then like I think Rom and Vir would be a pretty close tie. O’Brien and Nog don’t have B5 equivalents so that’s a few more points in favour of DS9.

folks who skipped s01 of babylon five will never truly get how funny the sinclair-sheridan transition really is.

like sinclair is a 6' tall man with kind brown eyes and a tragic backstory whose presence commands the room without him even saying anything. he solves diplomatic conflicts with a wave of his hand. he's so mysterious. he's larger than life. he's a reincarnated alien. the universe rests on his shoulders. what can't he do. sheridan rolls in bag full of shirts in cute colors, rambles about oranges, gives a speech to an empty deck, delegates negotiation duties to his least diplomatic staff member, who immediately starts a civil war (I'm sorry susan we love you but my god), gets locked out of his own flat. is he ok. can we put him on the heater to dry
