Resist the push for generative AI. Make art.
Source:
Alt Text: Four panels of a comic by artist Joshua W. Cotter entitled "Make Art".
Panel 1: "Art poses a threat to corporatocratic systems because a purpose of art is to remind the individual of their inherent autonomy. Their humanity."
Panel 2: "That is a purpose in direct diametric opposition to that of corporatocratic systems: objectification of the individual for profit and control."
Panel 3: "Generative A.I. is part of an authoritarian corporatocratic effort to co-opt and commodify the creative process to rid the end result — art — of that with threatens its existence — humanity."
Panel 4: "Resist commodification. Defy corporatocracy. Defy oligarchy. Defy their anti-human, anti-life authoritarian movement. Make art." — JWC, 02-10-26
lord of the rings really was lightning in a bottle. it shouldn’t have worked but by god it did. peter jackson, who had no filmmaking education and was mostly known for making low budget splatter movies, had no business going out and changing the movie industry like that but he did. return of the king showed up at the oscars and became one of the most awarded movies of all time. to this day it holds the record for the highest clean sweep. hollywood will keep trying to recreate that magic with bigger budgets and high profile actors and they will keep failing. i look at the state of these blockbusters where everything is smoothed over by soulless cgi and actors are acting opposite tennis balls and they will never hold a candle to the pure heart and soul and craft of the lord of the rings. every single person involved in that project loved being part of it and it fucking shows. i’m so thankful the stars aligned the way they did for these movies to happen like that.
i could do it i could bring star trek back from the brink of riverdaleisation and revive it with beautiful practical effects and meaningful political and philosophical questions and of course sick ass aliens but no one will give me the rights to the franchise because i have "zero writing or production experience" and "who even are you" and "how did you get past security". but i could do it.
Well the science officers are trained in being a bitch, of that we can all be sure...
sorry this was going to be a tags addition because I only get to use my coated pantone swatchbook like 6 times a year when i have a new enamel pin to design, but...

the more i watch star trek tos, the more it becomes abundantly clear that the reason why modern trek doesnt get kirk at all is because they dont utilise mccoy nearly as much anymore
in modern trek, they always present the idea of logic vs emotion, with spock being logic and kirk being emotion, but thats not how tos has it. in tos, the logic vs emption debate is spock vs mccoy. kirk is supposed to be the mediator between the two, sometimes siding with one side over the other, sometimes finding a middle ground between the two. thats why hes the captain, hes able to see all angles and pick the best course
when you make kirk the emotional one, it completely breaks the format, because 9 time out of 10, it means kirk has to be correct. theres no more balance
mccoy is just as important to tos as spock is, and while i do understand why spock is as popular as he is, without mccoy, the show doesnt work. you need them both. kirk spock and mccoy are the three leads of the show, and removing one requires you to change the others, which is whats happened to kirk
spock after jim violates starfleet regulations for the 10 millionth time:

😈 You are allowed to have evil characters who win.
😈 You are allowed to have evil characters who make evil look fun and cool.
😈 You are allowed to make your fun, cool evil character the protagonist.
😈 You are allowed to glorify, romanticize and eroticize evil characters and villainous acts.
😈 You are not obligated to teach your audience a moral lesson.
the two coolest punk icons on insta, they get all the yups and heys
"average Vulcan lies 3 times a year" factoid is actually statistical error. the average vulcan lies 0 times a year. lying spock, who lives on the enterprise and lies every episode, is an outlier and should not have been counted
so far in the story, zoro gets to keep a katana if a woman has an influence when he gets it.
