I love a good monstrous!Sephiroth. And not just morally or physically “monstrous”—I’m talking about clawing, cocking his head, snarling, rolling his mortal enemies into the ground, shaking himself off like a dog when he’s wet, and all the other crazy behaviors that lie dormant in a 7ft beef sandwich w/parasitic aliens DNA in his veins.

Yeah, I headcannon it being habits formed by occasionally getting thrown into a cell full of monsters and told to try not to kill them or hojo will be mad whenever the r&d labs get crowded.

the casual sephiroth in ever crisis got me thinking of an au idea. where sephiroth gets amnesia when he's deployed the wutai war, hes convinced hes just some guy in some wutai settlement while shinra is strambling to find him. literally working in a restaurant when either angeal or genesis finds him.

This leads to some unfortunate consequences, with Wutai now exploiting Sephiroth's natural fighting capabilities as a weapon against SHINRA. Sephiroth, meanwhile, literally has no idea what's going on and just wants to wash dishes and clean tables like a normal person. All while Angeal and Genesis debate on whether or not the best course of action is to simply grab Sephiroth and clear out entirely.

Also in my headcannon he adopts a cat he calls Sephiroth jr.

FF7/Crisis Core divergences are so appealing to me, personally, because they accentuate the many avenues that could have veered Sephiroth away from madness. And I’m not just referring to his reactor breakdown or library binge—I’m taking about Gast’s abandonment, Hojo’s torture, killing Rosen, Matcha’s desertion, Genesis’s rivalry, Genesis’s desertion, Angeal’s desertion, his friends’ degradation, killing Genesis clones, Modeoheim, Jenova’s proximity, his loneliness, his physical health, his exploitation, and Nibelheim. And so much more in the interim.

Really, Nibelheim was only the culmination. It was his breaking point—the last straw. Discovering the circumstances behind his birth and guzzling down books for a week straight may have been what ultimately driven Sephirotn into insanity, but it was everything else that had paved the road to the village being razed. Nibelheim didn’t plant his fears, his pain, or even his anger; it was the gasoline that burned the last of his patience and humanity from the inside out.

Which brings me to my initial point: changing just one of those factors, for better or for worse, may have altered the course of Sephiroth’s story forever. Because it wasn’t just Nibelheim that “turned” Sephiroth evil, but a toxic string of lies and abandonment threaded throughout his life. Learning about Lucrecia earlier or having his bffs by his side could be the key building block that prevents the rest of the foundation from crumbling. It wouldn’t change everything, of course (having Angeal & Genesis wouldn’t change the fact that Sephiroth yearns for a mother), but the different pictures that even a slight ripple in canon are so beyond delicious to me.

Here's an Midgar has a somewhat decent government au my brain just cooked up. Hojo is in jail for obvious reasons, SOLDIER program never happened and sephiroth, while being raised by his mom is on antipsychotic medication they found to be somewhat effective on his jenova related voices in his head. And other Genesis and Angeals degradation is being delayed by decades by avoiding all those mako injections while good doctors try to find a cure. (Though I could add an angst twist where seph is under government protection as there is still illegal jenova researchers that see him as a perfect specimen.)

I like the crossover idea where ec angeal and sephiroth gets accidentally pulled into kingdom hearts. And kh cloud is actively freaking out over the tiny sephiroth now running around cause they were meddling with portal machines to find sora.
