are you fucking telling me shane and ilya canonically get married on my birthday?
just thinking about the fact that heated rivalry (tv) starts with ilya and shane meeting. there is no build up. no background given about who they are as people before the inciting incident of them meeting the way most romances (and most stories period) start. because nothing else before matters. the moment they meet, their lives truly begin. this story is theirs, not just one or the other. their memories start here, in this back lot of an ice rink in saskatchewan.
am i the only one kinda down for short hair!ilya and long hair!shane in season 2
this situation reminds me of jane fondaās conversation where she admits she once said the n-word when she was younger. yes, the same jane fonda known for being outwardly supportive of civil rights, LGBTQ+ rights, womenās rights, etc etc
hudson williams might have been older when this happened, but some people spend their entire lives continuing to push bigoted and ignorant ideas and rhetoric.
for the record, i 100% am choosing to believe that symbol was taken without his permission and knowledge, and that (as so many people have shared) he experienced the exploitation of the people he was surrounded by at the time because he was a POC.
either way, iām not trying to police peopleās reactions to this, i donāt want to undermine anyoneās pain. however, itās clear hudson williams is not someone who would ever push any sort of hateful agenda of ANY kind now and continuing forward in his career.
again, iām choosing to believe him when he says it was done without his knowledge. overall, the distribution of a picture of him as a minor in which he is intoxicated is unfortunate, but he and his team have done the best they can to show that hudson not only did not know about the sign he does not and has never aligned himself with it. finally, he has apologized for the pain it has caused people even though (again, iām choosing to believe) he didnāt even write it in the first place from the context weāve been given and can see in the photo.
I was debating making a post bc I didnt want to give it attention, but seeing as how it breached containmentā¦.
If you have to scour through not just his Instagram posts and following list, not just his friendsā instagram posts and following lists, but also the other sm accounts from the friendsā following list to find a VSCO post from 8 years ago of high schoolers being fucking idiots just to try and justify your hatred of someone by giving them a label that you can point at to excuse your months of targeted hate - you are not doing it for āaccountabilityā, you are not doing it to protect minorities. You are doing it for deranged and parasocial purposes.
Im saying this as a WOC who grew up predominantly surrounded by white people and jumped at the first opportunity to move to a diverse college. I was a teen in HS and I had moments where I lacked a backbone because I didnāt want to be āTHAT personā. And then I moved away, grew up, and realized that being āTHAT personā is 1000 times better than accepting disrespect or laughing something off to keep the peace. For those calling for āaccountabilityā - consider that he has shown growth, and that you had to go digging through god knows how many accounts to find this shit that clearly was not drawn by him and does not reflect his actions and words today. I think itās important that weāve seen and heard multiple RECENT accounts of Hudson being a kind open minded person, and weāve seen him use his PUBLIC Instagram account to like an anti-ICE/ pro-Palestinian post.

shane is so brave making big steps to pursue ilya in HR yes. but he is even more brave in TLG i think because he is even more scared than he was before. putting his hand on ilyaās back in the club gets me every time. standing up against crowell. MUST I REMIND YOU he initiated their first date in public getting chicken parm. he wanted to be out just as bad as ilya and he was so so scared and he was so so brave
There is an actual hate crime happening here and itās the vile, parasocial stalkers who try to dig up whatever ādirtā they can on Hudson to harm him emotionally and mentally and try to destroy his career.
Thatās real harm done to a real person. And there are no good reasons to this. None.
Does anyone with half a brain think Hudson is or ever was an actual N*zi? Obviously not. (I beg you to learn history and especially look at what happened in Korea in WWII)
Do you think those who dug this up and spread it around did it for altruism? Obviously not.
I find it honestly outrageous that Hudson is forced to apologise for something that was clearly done to him.
If you want to direct your rage at real racist perpetrators why donāt you call out these disgusting stalkers who stop at nothing to hurt this young Asian-Canadian man because they canāt stand watch him succeed.
Okay. Please tell me Iām not the only one here. But for season 2, for the- oh also SPOILERS if you havenāt read the book and are waiting for the show. So be warned.

Anyhowā¦
For the plane crash, and for all that comes with it. I really, REALLY want there to be more drama with it. Like I need there to be more tension, more anxiety. Because while in the book itās not BAD, it certainly left me wanted MORE. Ya know?
Okay but like imagine this:
The crash is worse. Maybe they have one of the landing gears go out, making the plane drag across the runway. Something where they get a lil more shaken up, not hurt but when the crash is on the news it looks ROUGH. Secondly, Shane hears about the crash from JJ like he does in the book. But instead of seeing Ilyaās texts that heās okay, he only sees the instagram messages. Something could happen to Ilyaās phone, maybe it flys out of his hand when they hit the ground and gets stepped on or just shattered. He canāt text or call Shane until he gets to his hotel. Maybe even gets Troy to hand him his phone, and then having to explain why heās telling Shane Hollander of all people heās not dead.
Back on Shaneās end, heās FREAKING OUT. All he has from Ilya is his goodbye, his final words. And when he tries to call Ilya? He gets that same voicemail from season 1: āHi this is Ilya. I will never listen to your voicemail.ā⦠THAT might just send him over the edge. Shane would be trying to figure out if Ilya is dead, the news not updating fast enough, or not saying if there was any injury/deaths from the crash. He would be acting weirder and weirder around the team, snapping at people or just generally freaking out. Hayden wouldnāt know what to do.
When Ilya is FINALLY able to call Shane the emotional relief and the IMPACT of the scene. I know Hudson and Connor would act that shit DOWN.
In the end I just feel like it would add so much MORE to the proposal, to his thoughts about coming out, about the horrifying possibility of losing Ilya and never being brave enough to love him openly. The way Shane knows he deserves, the way they both deserve. And it just adds so much more to Shaneās emotional journey, leading to his conclusion. Just a solid few hours having to face the possibility of a world without Ilya, without the one person who knows him more than anyone else ever will. His perfect match in every way. Who loves him for all he is, no matter what.
I think in contrast to the immediate āreliefā (because yes he still does panic and freak out in the book), the could have a lot more potential for connection and impact on both Shane and Ilya, as well as the audience.
But thatās just a wish.
this really is what it feels like
Can we talk about Shane Hollanderās inherent kindness for a sec. Him introducing himself to Ilya trying to make him feel comfortable. Constantly asking him questions about himself and wanting to soothe his pain. Making space for Ilya in his home. Displaying his love for him openly in front of his parents. Heās so endlessly empathetic and I just love him ok
"I'm a Shane Hollander apologist" well actually he has nothing to apologize for AND!! even if he did I would stand behind my man 100% ten toes down no matter what
It's such a minor thing compared with everything else but it really bothers me how much emphasis is put on Ottawa being Shane's hometown, as if that somehow makes it even more convenient for Shane and isolating to Ilya. It basically serves as additional fodder for Ilya's resentment. It's mentioned three times in Long Game, notably during/after the Boxing Day fight:
Instead heād chosen to come to Ottawa, when he could have gone to almost any team in the league. Heād chosen a team that hadnāt made the playoffs in over a decade. Heād chosen it because it was Shaneās hometown, and close to where Shane lived. Heād chosen it so he could build a life in Canada with the man he loved.
- The Long Game, Ch. 22
Heād set his boyfriend up in his hometown, not far from Montreal, because that was convenient for him.
- The Long Game, Ch. 23
Except that's revisionist history designed to make Shane look bad! They chose Ottawa for hockey reasons (cap space, roster needs) and logistics (it's the closest team to Montreal and Shane's contract isn't up so he can't move, it lets Ilya start the Canadian citizenship process). None of the reasons Ilya moves to Ottawa rather than another team has to do with Shane's connection to it - not even being close to Yuna and David, because they're not a factor when they make the original plan!
It's framing the move to Ottawa like a Hallmark movie where the significant other is forced to relocate to their partner's hometown where their partner lives and knows everyone and is woven into the fabric of the community while the person who moves is completely isolated from THEIR friends and family - except Shane ISN'T woven into the fabric of Ottawa like that because he doesn't live there. Ilya sees Shane's parents (aka his only emotional tie to Ottawa besides Ilya) more often than Shane does, and Shane hasn't lived in Ottawa since he was at least 18, if not earlier with billeting.
So the fact that he grew up there has zero bearing on the current circumstances, and it's just a clumsy way to reinforce the narrative that Shane fit Ilya perfectly into his life without making any changes to his own, except Ottawa being Shane's hometown is essentially a complete coincidence, so all it actually does is make Shane look bad for no reason.
anyway good morning a crucial tenet of hollanovās relationship is that theyāre equals and theyāre the only people in the world who could ever be each otherās equal. they were supposed to stand alone at the top but theyāre there together. shane does not view ilya as a lazy useless inconvenience. ilya does not view shane as a nagging killjoy. they are equals and they both think the other is the best thing since sliced bread and they love each other but more importantly they LIKE each other. stop making them not like each other!
torn between breaking up my over 20k chapters in half or just leaving them each at >20k because thatās how i planned it not knowing i would be writing a full fucking novel with this fanfic.
i know weāre all very excited for ilya to be ruthless about shane and their marriage in unrivaled⦠but i need shane to be the same or even worse. i need both of them to be so over the top and insane about each other because they finally feel like they can. but shane specifically not only wants to give ilya all the affection and love in the world out loud after feeling like heās deprived him of it for so long, but also deserves it for HIMSELF. let shane hollander also my man my man my man his way through unrivaled i NEED it.
how clichĆ© is it to title my hollanov the holiday au āātis the damn seasonā?
