it’s peeves me a little bit when people say david didn’t tell yuna about walking in on shane and ilya, and it’s one of the reasons why im very pro everyone needs to read the books

in the books, david tells yuna what he saw. and tbh that’s okay ! there is no way yuna hollander let her husband come home freaked tf out and not press him about it. shane is an only child and he’s very close to his parents. david and yuna tell each other everything

yuna saying “tell us what, exactly?” is not because she doesn’t know. she does. she’s just giving shane the opportunity to tell them himself what’s going on rather than the very short- and honestly pretty out of context(in david’s eyes)- interaction he saw. yuna knew, she was just trying to wrap her mind around all of it

i’m a big fan of mixing canons, so some details from the show override the books and vice versa, but i think this interaction is a big part of their family dynamic that can’t be ignored

One thing about Heated rivalry is that they make me believe they genuinely want each other. The way that they kiss and all the other scenes, it is so obvious they like each other. Sooo why are we writing Shane that he always annoyed at Ilya? Did we forget about bathroom scene? He was looking at Ilya with stars in his eyes, mind you, after got ghosted for 6 months. That man don’t get annoyed at his husband. On the contrary he is the enabler. Ilya wants to prank people. Shane makes the plans. Ilya wants to eat out. Shane finds the restaurant for them. Ilya wants kiss. Shane is running to give him. So no Shane doesn’t get annoyed when his husband acts himself. He loves it and makes sure Ilya feels good enough to be himself.

I feel like everyone talks about how great of a father Ilya is gonna be because he's so good with kids so often, that we ignore Shane has THE most dad energy I've ever seen. He's standing beside his kids while they watch TV, claiming he's not watching because he has stuff to do. He's up at 7am on a saturday mowing the lawn or fixing stuff in the bathroom you didn't even KNOW needed fixing. His kids come home from practice and he's watching the most niche ass hockey stats breakdown video on youtube and he is SAT and focused for all 40 minutes. Oh you mentioned you like something? He's picking several up from the store DONT comment on it. All of his texts have periods, are straight to the point, and include either "OK" or "👍"

And he's the best dad a kid could ask for.

i love love loooove 'better than the fucking yankees' because shane's not just some hockey-obsessed jock, he's a straight up jock across the board. he's an all-rounder!!! he's a hockey player, and hockey players literally spend like 80-90% of their time talking about all the other sports they're watching. he watches sportscenter like it's the nightly news, has the baseball on in the background all summer. he's showing up at the olympics for sports simply because he knows the athletes, and as a top canadian athlete with his level of marketing and sponsorship, he's met and knows A Lot of athletes. he's getting invited to grand slam tournaments. he's reading all those high performing athlete biographies. he has an opinion on who's going to win the super bowl, who looks good in the nba, which teams will do best in the world cup, who's in form for the masters. in tlg he's participating in the great canadian pastime of putting on some late night australian rugby/aussie rules just for the sake of having some live sports running in the background. he and ilya put the tennis on later in the book for the same reason. that boy is a fucking jock!!!

but wait! i really think its such a comfort for them. shane seeks it out so much in season one but i know these two, post marriage, are head bonking after fights, or when they manage to settle on dinner with very minimal arguing, mouths full as they brush their teeth before bed but so desperate to say i love you all the time that it has become their silent way of doing it. they're doing it before games, during games, and after. when they're out in public and ilya can tell shane is overwhelmed. i am in full belief its actually very grounding for shane but ilya is just happy because physical touch from shane 🤗 literally them:
