Friendship is inherently oppressive and fucked up, but no one want to talk about it. Sincerely, an angry caedplatonic and aplatonic rascal.
nonnie, i forgot to answer this ask, but you're absolutely right and it should be talked about more. it is inherently oppressive, and it's shoved so far down peoples throats that they don't realize it.
a large portion of why i'm aplatonic today is because i spent a childhood forced into friendships that i never understood, never wanted, with people i never connected with as friends- i was only ever ostracized and bullied by them because i was different and didn't prove i was a friend the right way.
"Us aros still love our friends!" "Aros don't feel romantic love so we prioritize friendship!" "This valentine's day, let's all celebrate our friends! #aromantic" "It sucks how society puts so much emphasis on romance, I wish it constantly shoved friendship down everyone's throats instead, because clearly that doesn't already happen and no one would have a problem with it!" KILLING YOU KILLING YOU KILLING YOU KILLING YOU KILLING YOU KILLING YOU KILLING YOU KILLING YOU KILLING YOU KILLING YOU KILLING YOU KILLING YOU KILLING YOU KILLING YOU KILLING YOU KILLING YOU KILLING YOU KILLING YOU KILLING YOU K
This blog exists to encourage as many people as possible to post aplatonic fanworks on Aplatonic Awareness Day: May 4, 2026. Please use the tag #Aplatonics Assemble 2026 to promote your works, and tag this page so that I can reblog them all! If you write a fanfic posted on AO3, please also add them to the collection below:
All works are accepted as long as they relate to aplatonicism in some way. This includes romantic fics, sexual fics, gen fics, ""problematic"" fics, any rating, content, fandom, tags, etc. We want to represent the full spectrum of aplatonicism, and that includes alloromantic, aromantic, allosexual, and asexual aplatonics. It also includes everyone on the aplatonic spectrum, including those who do feel some platonic attraction, like demiplatonics, greyplatonics, etc, and those who are friending or plato-favorable.
Early and late submissions to the collection will be accepted.
Works from all fandoms are accepted, as well as original work. However if you post Harry Potter to this I will be extremely annoyed.
You do not need to be aplatonic to submit to this event. Works from allies are accepted and encouraged.
Miscellaneous:
My main is @drowninginredink, so that's where all likes are coming from, and I also do queer posting on @papercranesandpride and supernatural posting @schizosamwincester.
I will queue works submitted to this event so that people actually see them, so if I don't reblog your thing right on May 4, don't worry. I did see it, I just want to spread the posts out so that they all get the attention they deserve.
I will post optional prompts for this event as well, so feel free to let me know if you have ideas for those.
Gonna start identifying as greyplatonic because I have no clue what friendships actually entail and I only willingly agreed to enter a select few of them. Like idk what's going on with everyone I know irl. I just use the word friend because I'm polite and I do care and they use the word friend. But like. Idk . Hello lgbt+ community. Get more aspec now
Growing up feeling guilty that I never wanted to play with the neighborhood kids who came to my door and asked me to play. The teachers at school always worried because I never ate lunch with others, preferring to be alone in the hallways. Everyone around me pitying calling me ‘uncaring.’
Stumbling upon this label later in life has made me realize so much about myself.. Just wanted to let everyone else know how much I appreciate the community. We are here and we exist.
We are here, and we exist. Thank you for sharing, anon, your story is very relatable to me as well.
Let’s not romanticize being a hermit, it’s ok not to be buddy buddy with everyone you meet or social all the time but the world has enough of people being loners and needs more community.
brother was your implication here trying to say that people who don't feel platonic attraction and don't form friendships are like. the same as incels. hello ?

Unlike with a romantic relationship, asking someone for consent to enter a friendship relationship with them, and what the understood boundaries and expectations are in a friendship relationship are, are not things that are socially normalized.
This is highly stressful for me, an aplatonic person, who does not experience or understand platonic attraction, and would prefer not to be constantly entered into friendship relationships with unknown boundaries and expectations without my consent.
People will just "decide" that you're their friend and start expecting you to behave as their friend, without telling you their expectations for that, or asking about your boundaries surrounding it.
Imagine if people treated romantic relationships that way, and it was socially normal to just 'decide' someone was in a romantic relationship with you and start treating them that way.
god tumblr's aroace community is obsessed with platonic ideals of love and intimacy to the point it can be super alienating for someone who does not vibe with that model either. if you are aroace and do not experience yearning, the need for a qpr relationship, or enjoy fanfiction or media based around intimacy and comfort… you're still valid. you're not broken or weird. i've been like this forever and it has not negatively impacted my quality of life. you will be okay, and you will be happy and thrive.
NPD culture is always calling everyone your "friend" because you've never really understood the concept of actual friendship so everyone you associate with positively falls into the "friend" category because I feel similarly about someone I've known for 4 months to someone I've known for 4 years
Is it okay if I just kinda…Decide to be Aromantic?
I don’t want to be disrespectful of the identity or anything. I know I can probably feel romantic attraction. But honestly I think im kind of just over trying to date and romance at this point.
you are aromantic. you ARE aromantic. welcome to the club. make yourself at home. you belong here too. stay as long as you want.
After recently realizing I haven't posted one of my finished drawings I decided to look through my folder and found this one.
It was supposed the be posted during pride month (alongside with other pride related dragons), but for some reason it was just sitting there, forgotten.
I also have a sketch of Trans dragon, but I don't really feel like finishing it right now, so maybe someday I'll do it and post it.
