Finished a… Space Marine???

I know, a non-Aeldari miniature is a strange one for me to post! I’ve had this guy in the works on and off for the past couple of years, ever since watching an episode of Um, Actually with this technically-inaccurate action figure:

I knew I wanted to have a crack at making the miniature equivalent!

(Um, actually, Black Templars aren’t yellow, but um, actually, they’re a successor chapter of the Imperial Fists who ARE yellow, and I imagine this whole thing is giving Rogal Dorn a big headache - wherever he is.)

To me, a Black Templar isn’t complete without him standing on top of a pile of rubble a la John Blanche’s cover art for Warhammer 40’000 third edition (RIP to a real one), so I imagined him physically crashing through the roof of the Um, Actually set to make some corrections of his own. It was also an excuse to litter the base with props seen on-set in the background of the show!

This guy is no longer in my personal collection: last night I went to see Um, Actually at the Roundhouse in Camden (which was a lot of fun!!) and afterwards I was able to catch up with Ify Nwadiwe (host of the show and avowed Warhammer Guy) and present it to him in its own display case! He was absolutely chuffed with it, and I’m glad it’s found a good home.

Battle-sister from the Order of the Sacred Rose

I'm in the middle of bretonnian infantry painting death march so I painted her quick as a pallette cleanser. Both armies have the fleur de lis as their main motif so I'm not too far off the mark.

The komusō (literally “priest of nothingness” or “monk of emptiness”) were a group of Zen Buddhist mendicant monks who wandered the roads of Edo period Japan. They would play elaborate tunes on their bamboo flutes as they begged for alms, their faces (and thus, their ego) completely concealed by a distinctive hood woven from straws or reeds. Unsurprisingly, many were recruited as spies or were actually ninja or ronin in disguise, and eventually their temples and their schools were abolished for meddling in material affairs instead of spiritual ones.
