Creativity doesn't have an age limit! We are all creators and makers! #artmuseum #artists #creators #artsharing
The exact numbers vary, but studies have determined that the average time a person spends gandering at a piece in a museum is between 15 seconds and 30 seconds. That’s plenty of time to figure out what the image is attempting to represent (or not, if you’re looking at abstraction). But that’s not nearly enough time to fully experience the work.
Wow...only an average time of "15 seconds and 30 seconds" spent per piece of artwork in a museum!?
Baroque Masters: Handel & Vivaldi
This week, we are introducing two of the four musicians: Tatiana Senderowicz and Melinda Becker from Liaison Ensemble, who will be performing at our museum on February 10, 2017.
Melinda Becker earned her Master of Music Degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Catherine Cook. She is known for the intimacy of her performances and the diversity of her repertoire. She enjoys performing a multi-language repertoire, from Spanish song to French chansons, to Soul and other popular music styles. She is a founding member of Duo Fado, a voice and guitar chamber ensemble specializing in classically based folk music from around the world, performing for audiences in Spain, Portugal, Egypt, and France.
Tatiana Senderowicz is a solo and chamber musician who has performed a wide variety of repertoire. She is a winner of the American String Teacher’s Association (ASTA) San Francisco Bay Area Chapter Competition and was the only contestant from the United States to have been selected as a semi-finalist to participate in the 2011 Barrios WorldWideWeb Competition. In Spring of 2013 Tatiana was chosen to perform at the Guitarrada, an event hosted by Pepe Romero and the San Francisco Conservatory’s Guitar Department where she had the opportunity to perform on a Hauser I guitar from the John Harris Guitar Collection.

IAMA joins Smithsonian magazine’s 12th Annual Museum Day Live!
Courtesy of Smithsonian Media
On Saturday, September 24, 2016, the International Art Museum of America will be part of Smithsonian magazine’s twelfth annual Museum Day Live!.
On this day only, participating museums across the United States - including IAMA - emulate the spirit of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington DC-based facilities, which offer free admission every day, and open their doors for free to those who download a Museum Day Live! ticket.
Since our museum already offers free admission, we will give visitors who present the Museum Day Live! ticket a free guided tour of the collection.
Being involved with Museum Day Live! gives IAMA a chance to be part of something big and bold: Smithsonian’s long-established devotion to arts and culture. In fact, the event represents Smithsonian’s commitment to making learning and the spread of knowledge accessible to everyone.
The Museum Day Live! ticket is available for download at Smithsonian.com/museumday.
We hope to see you at the International Art Museum of America for a free guided tour, on Saturday, September 24, 2016!

IAMA’s Five-Year Anniversary (2011-2016)
In October 2016, the International Art Museum of America will have been open for five years. As we kick off this month-long celebration, we hope you will join us and partake in the festivities!
The mission of IAMA is to foster art appreciation by providing an inclusive space to experience art and generate dialogue around diverse cultures through exhibits, programs, and education. Our goal is to ultimately feature art from around the world to reflect the international heritage of the city in which our museum resides.
Work In Progress: Artists, Chris Cook & Sly Guard Jr. from @sugabusmedia are finishing a mural on Stevenson Street painted for our museum's 5th year anniversary celebration. Stay put for the final results! #wip #muralart #sfmural #art #museum #sf #soma #celebration #5years (at International Art Museum of America)

How to Paint Fangfa Inspired Animal Portraits
By Audrey Fleury | June 21, 2016
You may not be a master of Chinese art, but you can practice Fangfa style art at home! This lesson is from IAMA's Children's Art Class that the museum offers every third Saturday at 10:30 A.M. and again at 2:00 P.M.
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
You will need a pencil, two paint brushes (a stipple brush and a brush for details), watercolor paints, water and paper.
Free Children’s Art Class | Saturday 2 PM
Children 12 years and younger are welcome to learn about H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha's Fangfa style artwork which is part of IAMA's gallery and try out similar art techniques to create their own masterpieces!
In the gallery:
Students will learn to identify and describe the Fangfa style in relation to scattered ink techniques and pastoral or animal subject matters. They will compare Fangfa animal portraits to other works with more detailed, delicate styles, and reflect on the effect of the styles on the presentation of the subject matter.
Activity:
During the activity portion of the lesson, students will emulate the style using watercolor and a stippling brush technique.
