Alright, one last post from my end as a guest contributor. This is Liv, who I met in the beginning of 2017. Without her encouragement I probably would’ve never met as many people as I did last year and built enough confidence to take all their portraits. It was such an incredible journey to have others believe in you that much, so as a thank you I put together my first book (Big Impact – My time with Liv Sage) ever and made it available for people to purchase. The amount of positive feedback on it fueled my intention to make my work reachable beyond this virtual world. I feel that having your work as a physical product makes you realize what you have accomplished even more so. And that is a damn good feeling! www.helenevienna.com www.instagram.com/helenevienna www.collabwithhelene.tumblr.com “Time with you.” London, 04/2017. M: Liv Sage
I am often asked if the people I take photos of are professional models. The answer is yes and no. The ones I am interested in mostly have little to no experience at all. It does help if someone is experienced whether a certain angle or pose suits them, but what’s more important is the relationship we have with each other. Before I even think about picking up a camera, I make time to get to know the person in front of me and, equally, share things about myself. www.helenevienna.com www.instagram.com/helenevienna www.collabwithhelene.tumblr.com “Kissing your scars softly.” Harz, 11/2017. By working together more than once you have not only established a level of trust for each other but are also able to experiment. It is always helpful to exchange thoughts and ideas in order to make the most of a collaboration. www.helenevienna.com www.instagram.com/helenevienna www.collabwithhelene.tumblr.com “Take me in for the ride. Show me what only you can see.” Berlin, 07/2017. M: Nina Klein
Hands have always fascinated me. They seem to be able to express more than we are able to with words. In this picture particularly, I love the stillness they evoke. www.helenevienna.com www.instagram.com/helenevienna www.collabwithhelene.tumblr.com “The sound of silence.” Barcelona, 08/2017. M: Anneke Necro
One of my most liked elements for capturing a moment is when the light is in the right place at the right time. This doesn’t always happen and can lead to frustration. However, I’ve learned to pay more attention to when this special entity is where to get the most out of a frame. Sometimes it will happen that I see a beam of light and scream “Stop!” just to get this one picture. www.helenevienna.com www.instagram.com/helenevienna www.collabwithhelene.tumblr.com “Give me a moment of warmth.” Edinburgh, 09/2017. It is probably one of the scariest and best feelings at the same time to do something completely out of your comfort zone. When Paul invited me into his home, I was frightened to shoot in there as it was a small space. I had never done that nor had I shot a male half naked. Overcoming my first fears, we turned the little space into something great and captured a few images, that still go straight to my heart. They contain intimacy, exploration and ambiguity. Topics which can be found throughout my work. www.helenevienna.com www.instagram.com/helenevienna www.collabwithhelene.tumblr.com “I want to taste what it’s like to be in between.” Berlin, 07/2017.
