This was written in 2020 during a manic episode of mine. I thought it lost to the winds time, but it was actually saved in my drafts. Here it is, in its unedited and unfinished glory. I may finish it in the future.
Two Trucks by Lemon Demon is About Homophobia and Here’s Why.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Two Trucks, here is a link to the Genius lyric page. I would also recommend listening to the song here. Now that you're informed about the subject matter, I can explain my thesis statement.
First off, we need to understand that the two trucks that are mentioned in the song are two queer men. Why, you may ask. That's simple. In the second verse of the song Neil Cicierega sings Right by my side//there's Z.Z. Top//and Robert Z'dar, and in the next verse he mentions being crushed by them and a cylinder block "like a rock". Because these verses are chronological, we can infer that Z.Z Top and Robert Z'dar are the two trucks. Z.Z Top is a band with 3 male members, and Robert Z'dar is a male, so we can say that the trucks are two men, and we can go even further and say that the trucks are queer because they are having (hopefully consensual) sex. Also, because Z.Z. Top has 3 members, one of the trucks has DID (dissociative identity disorder) and has 3 main personas.
Now if the two trucks are queer men, then what does that make Neil Cicierega? I believe that Neil is parodying a homophobic American patriot. In the chorus he sings my muscles//my muscles//involuntarily flex. Involuntarily... like a flinch!
