As you might understand, weâre currently swamped (hah get it) with exams, so we apologize for our lack of memes. Hereâs something I quickly made once I found out Hitlerâs chauffeur was called Julius Schreck, hope this makes up for the lack of memes lately!
HEY THERE!! I was wondering is IB History hard? do u enjoy it? is it boring? How many assignments do you get in a week? i'm planning to take history but i am so scared because a lot of people are saying it's hard to get a good grade.

the thing about the ib history course is that it varies a LOT from school to school, because the teacher chooses a certain amount (like, 3 i think, if you have standard level) of topics. now, if youâre interested in modern history, there is almost guaranteed to be some topic you will like, but i would talk to the ib coordinator in your school, and find out which topics you will be working with. if youâre considering HL you will have some extra topics, likely about your own continent (such as history of europe if you live in europe).
If youâre worried about remembering dates/years and stuff, donât worry too much about that. it comes pretty much naturally because you work so in-depth with the curriculum. and as long as you remember the most important stuff, youâll be fine. however, you have to work a lot with analysing and interpreting sources (exerpts from books, political cartoons, speeches, pictures, graphs, etc.), which can be a bit challenging at first. most of our class was super-intimidated by source work at first, but now weâre really starting to get the hang of things.
we both very much enjoy history, which is why we run this blog! we will both write our extended essays in history, as well. that being said, itâs not for everyone, and there will probably be some rough patches where you feel like the material is a bit dry or boring. but if you like history, i would give it a shot. also, pro tip: if you can make memes about it, it instantly becomes a lot more fun, trust me
assignments per week will vary A LOT from school to school, and country to country. we, personally, only have reading homework, which rarely ends up being more than 10 pages. or, well, twice that amount if you have HL. but, we work a lot with exam preparation and essay writing in class!! we donât have many âtestsâ (informal, of course) either â so far i think weâve had 3. BUT, weâre pretty lucky, so PLEASE donât expect to have a similar amount of workload. again, it really varies from school to school. also i should mention that, at least in our class, history isnât one of those chill subjects where you can pretty much just relax in the lessons: you really need to pay attention and do lots of in-class work!
history is said to be a relatively hard subject to get a 7 in â arguably the toughest group 3 subject â but, hopefully, you will get plenty of preparation in class!!
TL;DR (donât blame you): itâs hard for us to say how your experience will be, and you should be prepared to face some challenges and put in some effort, but if youâre passionate about the subject it doesnât feel like such hard work.
i wholeheartedly recommend history. itâs my absolute favourite subject, and i donât regret having it as HL for a second!
