It’s been a hot second since I’ve hated a lead character as much as I hate Bear. The film brilliantly sets up his true personality from the get-go, though you don’t realise it until way later; blaming his cat for getting into the pills and unceremoniously dumping her in a rubbish bag.

I also sat thinking so much about Nikki after the credits rolled. Not only did he inflict countless and endless trauma, emotional, mental and physical upon her, he literally stole her future. Pre wish, she had given her two weeks at her job, she was writing, she was so clearly sure of herself and was going places. And Bear took all of that away from her; all he cared about was her loving him, nothing else. If post wish ‘Freaky’ Nikki hadn’t started acting out, Bear would’ve happily ignored the real Nikki’s pleading forever.

Now she’ll be fated to either go to prison for murder (something that has likely been confirmed) or she’ll wind up sectioned; neither is a pleasant fate and an ending this poor woman did not deserve in the slightest.

On a lesser note, fuck Ian too.
