Ian was leaning back in the chair with a drink in his hand, and the way the man came up to him so abruptly almost made him think the man was a customer. Then he started rambling about fees and about not being a prostitute and he looked at him with confusion—until the stranger realized his mistake. “No, sorry I’m not your client. Wish I was, handsome, but I don’t have the luxury of paying for other people’s time. I actually am usually in your shoes.” He laughed a little, “how about I buy you a drink instead? Don’t want you going broke over me. I just finished with a client of my own actually, so this ones on me.
The compliment made Jay withdraw back into silence. No one gave compliments unless they wanted something, that was the truth the boy had grown up with. It didn’t help that the blonde seemed to relate to the sort of work Jay did; It only worsened the paranoia that gnawed at his heart. “I’m not really broke but sure, whatever man.” The walls that had been let down came up again and Jay mustered the bored expression he worse so well. “I’ll take whatever, just something with alcohol.” And why was the other man buying him a drink? There was an agenda here but Jay couldn’t figure it out. It was uncomfortable and frightening, even if he didn’t show it.
Ian noticed the uneasiness, something he was used to feeling, at least he used to when he first started in his line of work. It had been too long now dealing with shifty eyes and greedy men that he didn’t really notice the way stomach still tied itself in knots when people flirted with him. “Don’t worry, I’m not trying to get in your pants for free or anything, you just look like you could use a drink.” He laughed a little, getting up from his chair and walking towards the hotel bar. “Cmon I’ll buy whatever your favorite is. As far as I’m concerned you’re free until midnight unless your no-show actually shows up. Doubt he will, he probably was a first timer right? Probably chickened out.”
