I meant basically all forms of privilege, tbh. I'm willing to listen to alternate perspectives, but my belief is that no one is inherently morally bad for having privilege, just as no one is inherently morally good for not having privilege.

I believe that the existence of most types of privilege is morally wrong - that it is inherently harmful for some people to have advantages over others that aren't literally built in. (Things like abled privilege are a different case; I think it's bad that abled people have inherently easier lives than disabled people, but I don't think it's morally wrong, since it's not a decision people made. That said, there are privileges abled people have that aren't about their actual ability and are instead about society being set up for them in a way it's not set up for disabled people, and I do think that's morally wrong.) But I don't think think people are bad for having privilege, or good for not having privilege.

I think certain types of privilege can make you more likely to be a shitty person, but I also think certain types of disadvantage can make you more likely to be a shitty person, and neither actually predestines you to shittiness, it just impacts the odds. Fundamentally, it comes down to the choices you make, not the advantages you're born with.

And I think the idea that privilege makes people evil and lack of privilege makes people good comes from people in Christian cultures absorbing the cultural background radiation of "martyrdom = good, luxury = bad," often without realizing that that's where it comes from. I don't believe that everything about Christianity is bad, but I do think this is one of the pieces they got really wrong.

Tl;dr: I meant all types of privilege I could think of, I think privilege itself is bad but having privilege isn't necessarily, I think certain types of privilege and suffering make people more likely to suck (but I don't think it's the only factor), and I think the idea that suffering makes you good and privilege makes you bad is fundamentally rooted in some of the more toxic parts of Christianity.

I mean, where i disagree is "no ones inherently bad for having priviledge" when historically it says otherwise ; i can only speak abt american history ofc. but there are many instances where privilege in a sense gave others a cloak to hide behind ; ofc ur not a bad person if u have it but in history especially black history, people with privilege didnt question their privilege and the deaths its caused. so it gave a bystander effect aswell, i mean you could argue that its "the choices you make" but id argue that those choices are predestined based on the privilege you have. when people are discriminated against for their hair type, gender and race, this idea that "its just the choices you make" kind of ignores that aswell. im not a christian ; im a pagan rlly but its always good to acknowledge where those ideas come from. i just happen to disagree based on what i know + experiences. I mean you dont really need to just look at history either for this point ; when the privitization of healthcare,education and toll roads affect the middle class, people that lobbied for those things to happen dont feel the ramifications of that choice. so for me when systems today set a privileged and non privileged tone from birth atp for me its difficult to acknowledge this idea that "privilege doesnt make you inherently bad" when in alot of instances it does. ofc as someone who has suffered financially before, i know everyone in that boat wasnt the greatest person so i just felt like acknowledging that aswell before i end my point.

I came across the term “noguing” and I wanted to share some thoughts about queer theory and camp culture.

To begin, it must be acknowledged that voguing and ballroom were created by black and brown drag queens and trans people and so any mockery of this art form is not only homophobic but is highly racialised and violent toward those communities.

Many people (particularly straight, cis people) view voguing/ballroom through modern aesthetics and therefore do not see it as it is - a rejection of mainstream beauty standards, hegemony and restraint - we see this in the fact that voguing is literally about throwing yourself into extreme shapes and flinging of respectability for the sake of evoking emotions in the viewer. In order to learn to vogue, you have to be willing to look silly and fail because thats the only way to become better.

Similarly, campness as a counterculture involve rejecting modern ideas of minimalism (which is white supremacy repackaged as aesthetics) and the need to look put together or appeal to a straight audience. In order to do this we must constantly examine our own loyalty to beauty as something to strive for and be willing to be rejected by the culture we have been conditioned to appeal to.

I therefore posit that the reason that noguing is shit (aside from it looking bad) is that it is very clear watching it that these people are still holding on to the idea that to fully commit to a death drop is cringe because they might make a fool of themselves.

Cringe culture is literally white supremacy because it restricts those who engage in mocking others into having such tight control over their creative expression lest they actually do something sincere that doesn’t fit into the tightly regimented category of “cool”
