This is the 85 year old creator of Roger Rabbit:
I’ve been seeing a lot of Scooby Doo on my dash lately. My friend discovered what he describes as “Shaggy eviscerating an ape”
I do find it funny how Jason fans are expected to hate on him, compared to like...most other fans of characters. And I'm not saying this is Jason-specific by any means, it's just something I've noticed.
We can't say we like Jason without condemning his actions. We can't say we like Jason without saying that he was one of the worst Robins and Tim was wayyyy better. We can't say we like Jason without thinking he should be punished for his crimes.
And like...buddy, I like Jason because he's committed crimes. Tf do you mean I have to sit there and laugh and be like 'oh yeah I like Jason but (character) is so much better at the job and (character) should be allowed to hit him and Jaybin sucked actually and Jason is a monster for doing this stuff to (character) and yeah I agree he's a fraud'???
Like jfc god forbid I like a guy for being a bit of an asshole. God forbid I like a character who does dodgy stuff and admits his grey morality. God forbid I like a guy without sanitising what he did or putting up a disclaimer that I think what he did was bad. God forbid I have fun with my own fucking opinions. Why do I have to comfort others for liking a character who isn't their favourite, who is someone they dislike or hate, who they for some reason have labelled a fraud? Why do I have to laugh and say he has no good comics just to follow the popular opinion???
Again, none of this is Jason specific. He just seems to get it the most out of all of the Robins; especially Jaybin, because apparently me thinking Jaybin is a great Robin means I'm a larper or a fraud or delusional or whatever. Sorry I like a silly whimsical kid whose slow descent into a terrible outcome makes me emotional ig
Anyway. I will never apologise for liking Jason or his comics. Ever.

AMAZING!!! UR SO TALRNTED!!
people are like why do you talk about classism so much in jason’s writing in comics and in fandom but they don’t realise the lit nerd jason fanon (though partially rooted in canon) is in part actually push back about how the fandom thought jason was dumb because he dropped out, that he wasn’t interested in higher education, that the potential jobs fandom gave him was always blue collared ones “just because”. things used to be much worse and i think there’s a pretty drastic shift in how jason is perceived and characterised in the past 10 years or so, and possibly why i don’t care if fans lean too much into him being a lit enthusiast. because well, i’ve seen the alternative and i don’t want to go back there
We as a society should get more “treating Willis like the human he is” instead of “Willis is a neglectful vermin of a man that should’ve died because he’s a criminal and also Bruce Wayne is a 100% a better parent” type of vibe yk. I’ve been reading some pre-Bruce Jason and I’ve just like,, fallen in love with Willis’s premise his character like sure he’s barely there but when he’s there? God it does something to me.
There’s something so insidious (like so extra insidious outside of the dc fandom norm of “so incredibly classist we could go toe to toe with a French elite before the revolution”) and so dehumanising about taking a story of a man’s desperation to give his son a better life then turning it into a story of a man who’s abusive and evil because of the crimes he committed in that desperation. God. And then ontop of that comparing it to Jason under Bruce’s care as if as if there’s any stable footing for any kind of meaningful comparison “Jason had a better life under Bruce” yeah and Bruce has about at least 7 more zeros in his bank account your point?? Like if we assumed both wanted a better life for Jason, like no fucking shit the one with near infinite amount of resources would provide a better life than a man who has essentially nothing- then taking the fact that he has nothing then equating that to he’s abusive and a bad father is just like. Wow. Are we reciting the classist manifesto???
And yeah in some in my eyes extremely classist iterations of the story (because I haven’t delved into classism of dc editorial themselves yet) Willis is an objectively bad father, but here’s the difference Bruce is consistently a bad father- no no no we aren’t gonna start with that whole “he’s trying his best!” He is an objectively selfish father. Doesn’t matter what his genuine intent is if he really loved them or not, his actions especially with Jason is unequivocally selfish. At least it reads as incredibly selfish to me, covering up your own son’s murder to continue your vigilante hobby- letting the man who murdered your son go off Scott fucking free basically again inaction is endorsement- to go off and kill and ruin more families for your own moral code- and don’t start with the “oh of course the Jason fan doesn’t understand the moral code” I DO and that’s why I said selfish- I said selfish not amoral not immoral selfish. Because that’s what Bruce Wayne is. He is a deeply flawed man, a deeply flawed father and pretending he isn’t in comparison to Willis is classist. I highly doubt most iterations of Willis would purposely cover up and hide the death of his own son for his own personal vendettas I highly doubt of Willis was in the position he would let a man who’s done so much evil go because of his own aversion to death.
A lot of yall claim Bruce Wayne isn’t affected by his wealth but like,,,, yall do know having a moral code is a luxury? Like he has the resources to throw at problems till they go away to make himself more comfortable, Willis doesn’t have that- Willis will never have that. Bruce Wayne is a billionaire like any other and hoarding his wealth to “improve” the health of Gotham (caused by that same hoarding of wealth) doesn’t make him an acceptable billionaire.
I have a new dungeon meshi au where everything is the same except for this
this is how I know yall weren’t reblogging the companion to this post 🙄

before and after you, farewell partner!
Thinking a lot about Bruce's fervent desire for Jason to settle down with a wife and kids the way he doesn't feel he never can and how that impacts Jason's queer coding. Like of all Bruce's kids Jason is the one he most wants to have that traditional domestic life. That's his dream for Jason. A thing Jason has literally never once showed interest in!! Yes Jason is fond of kids and prone to taking them in but the white picket fence life with a wife and biological children? Never something we really see him shoot for. Because its NOT what he wants. He doesn't want to bring kids into this life, he only takes in kids who are already involved. His one mainline civilian girlfriend had to pursue him and then they broke up because she got possessed by his ex a week later. Jason has no civilian identity and hasn't expressed a desire for one. Bruce literally lobotomized him so he could go live the life Bruce chose not to pursue and keeps making the choice to not pursue. Bruce thinks there is only one way for himself (and therefore also Jason) to be truly happy but he won't give up Batman because he perceives Batman as valuable and necessary but he barely sees Jason as a person so he has no qualms about enforcing his perception of what would make Jason happy (based on precisely zero evidence) to the degree of denying Jason personal choice and autonomy. The only version of Jason he loves totally and unconditionally is the made up trad husband version in his head that looks suspiciously like Bruce's own almost-happily ever after if HE hadn't sabotaged his relationship with Talia for the sake of Batman.

ya know, on tiktok i block anyone that has an ass take or doesnt understand the actual issues ppl have w something. we can call that protecting my peace or just more easily annoyed when there's auditory input happening, either way.
this time it was some guy who doesnt seem to understand the main issue 'jason fans' have w batman beating red hood in rhato rebirth 25. like yes, red hood appeared to have killed penguin on live tv, seemingly breaking the no kill rule.
however, the issue is that it is the same set up as in rhato rebirth 1, where red hood 'attempts' to assassinate the mayor, but really doesnt and even cures him of a virus. at the end of that issue, jason asks bruce to trust him, that he did it that way to go undercover. and bruce said if he thought jason was in too deep he would pull him out, and if he killed, actually took a life, then bruce would come for him.
lo and behold, a literal master marksman shoots penguin in the face and gets beaten by batman in rhato rebirth 25. thats just bruce doing what he promised, right? wrong, because jason is a master marksman with a number of non-lethal rounds, and even most non-lethal rounds will kill when shot point blank. that means he chose rounds that wouldn't. a rubber bullet directly to the face will kill someone, and yet penguin didnt die. if you read the entirety of rhato rebirth, you can tell jason is not dumb. this was not an accident that pemguin is alive.
making rhato rebirth 25 the exact same as 1, where batman sees red hood doing something potentially shady and only sees his former actions, completely ignoring that batman's whole creed is about second chances. he ignores that this is the exact same set up as the start of their deal, and only sees red hood with a gun in someone's face. does not consider that red hood has kept the rule even in private, has proof black mask is alive despite completely falling off the map after a fight with red hood. heard red hood say he hates the rules but he's following them, has seen red hood turn down multiple opportunities to kill someone he'd argue as better off dead.
jason 'killing' penguin even fulfilled the same point as 'killing' the mayor. it is to go into deeper cover, but bruce doesnt know that because he saw a literal beat-for-beat same setup as was done with the perfectly fine mayor and thought the exact same thing as he did then. this is supposed to be one of the best detectives in the world and he can't see an imitation set up when it smacks him in the face?
wrong, it reads as bruce looking for a reason to hit his problem child, to beat him into submission, and that is the issue most "jason fans" have.
The pervading concept that Bruce is "letting" Jason operate or holding back on him at all is so funny to me. How do you come to this conclusion. He has killed Jason visibly on panel multiple times. Like more than the Joker. There is no evidence to support Bruce LETTING Jason have or do anything. Every inch Jason takes is clawed from Bruce's white knuckled grip. Jason didn't luck his way into running Gothams underground, he's a tactical genius who played Bruce like a fucking fiddle using an updated version of Bruce's own plan and methods because Jason is competent and intelligent. The only reason Bruce wasn't blown up in his car is because Jason misses his dad. The only leverage he has to control Jason is Jason's desperate desire to be loved. Which he has used at least 3 times in recent memory to harm or kill Jason actually!!
