iconimg is an old project to collect images you're allowed to use when making roleplay icons / edits of characters :)
WHY? making edits/icons out of random fanart (including fanart you don't even know the artist of) is bad. it's as simple as that. it obscures credit/links back to the artist, and nobody ever seems to bother to check if the creator is actually OKAY with it. in some cases, they explicitly say "don't use my art / edits for rp icons / edits" and... people just ignore it. and that's bad, plain and simple. the hope here is that by collecting official art and fanartists who allow this, we can discourage people from using random unsourced fanart!
OKAY, WHAT DO YOU DO HERE? i have been helping to reblog either official content (such as official art, promotional art, screenshots, merchandise images, etc) or fanart that the creator of explicitly said is ok to use of various characters from various fandoms for years.
HOW CAN I HELP? if you know of (or are) a fanartist / edit maker who makes fanart / edits you'd be okay with people using with credit, or if you know of archives of official art, send me an ask and i will add you to the rentry masterlist below!

Well then!! Can I get a PQ sprite edit for a Kurloz Serket? May8e using Feferi's sprite 8ecause her 8uild is really similar to mine in that tl :::::::::} I wore a 8lack tube top and 8lack leather pants that were 8elted with a cerulean 8elt, and I wore a white long sleeved 8utton up shirt over that, that I always rolled up the sleeves on. I had dreadlocks, with 8eads in them (in grey, cerulean, indigo and teal) and my hair was decently long and came down to a8oat the middle of my chest. I had 8 collar 8one piercings (4 on each side), angel 8ites, a septum, and decently stretched gauges, I'd say a8oat 32mm. My jewelry was always silver or in my 8100d colour. I had my sign (scoricorn) tatt00ed in cerulean in that space 8etween the collar8ones and where the like, chest 8egins. I wore cerulean eyeshadow, had a mole a8ove my lip on the right side, and I had glasses like aranea's except they were red. I had decently 8ig fangs t00. We didn't have a sesh so no ghost eyes please, if you would. Thank you sew much in advance (and don't worry a8oat it if you can't do it!!!!!!!!)

It's been just over a year since Deltarune chapters 3 & 4 released! I did the 3D work, which mostly means Tenna 📺 I figured it's been long enough to share some "behind the scenes" stuff, starting with a look at the Maya file for his static poses...
I'd individually render the poses to get that early 3D shine ✨ Here's some of them at their original resolutions! I would work from text descriptions from Toby, and sometimes there'd be a Paint sketch to help out. Gigi drew the concept that I modeled from and some poses too!
I had a lot of fun pushing myself to match the dynamic poses Toby had in mind for Tenna - making him so crazy and expressive was something I couldn't have done without his prompts. He'd draw the faces on afterward too, which really brought Tenna to life!

There was a time when I was struggling to capture what he wanted for these specific Tenna poses… Until Toby acted them out himself, and I thought, "Ah, it's like that. I understand." and then I was able to make them just how he pictured them.
When looking through the renders and choosing what to share, I laughed at these two… Remember when Tenna had a gun? Remember when he bent over in a very specific way that might remind you of another, different image? No? Maybe you don't…? Well. Don't worry about it.
These ones are cute… Tenna is pretty cute sometimes! Has anyone ever thought this? Actually, before people knew he was going to be a strange 3D sprite the Whole Time, I was worried people wouldn't like the style and it'd sour people's views on him. I'm glad that didn't happen.
Toby thought it would be funny to have Tenna do some really smooth, mocapped animations sometimes - specifically free to use ones that often pop up in other things. An extra funny part to me is how many frames these take up in the game, and how his tails are stuck to his legs…
Speaking of mocap, Toby wanted Tenna to use custom mocap animations as far back as 2016 - Ten(na) years ago! I got an Xbox Kinect at the time and learnt how to set this up, but then never used it. Here's a look at messing with mocaped stuff again in 2022. So Normal.
Don't bother trying to help him here, he's just being dramatic 🙄
I particularly like these poses - I think I improvised most of these just based off the context they get used in… I always liked posing his tie and coat tails as if they were also parts of his body he could move. Which I guess they are?
After I rendered out the individual poses in high quality, I'd force the color palette to be limited to just a few shades and then I'd shrink the result down to pixel sized sprites. Like these! I'd tidy them up a little, but they'd really get improved on at the pixel scale by Clairvoire.
As well as Tenna's sprites, I also worked on his intro "movie"…! Seeing people be completely overloaded by this on first playthroughs would always make me laugh. In game, there's a ton of extra editing done by Everdraed, but my unedited cut looks like this ⬇️
This was the entire storyboard I had to work from, and I'm realizing now that there's the note "put him in car etc" that I never did and actually don't know what it would mean exactly. Working on this had me listen to the accompanying audio many times, but it's good so it's okay.

For the 3D Ralsei clip from the intro, Toby really wanted it to look a certain way, and drew more sketches for guiding me with this part than any other. They genuinely helped.
Remember how Toby's original storyboard has the note "covered in slime and shrinks"? That meant I had to learn how to make 3D slime. You can see my tech advancing here.
I'm really happy with how the final Tenna animation at the end of the intro movie turned out! It wouldn't look as good if it wasn't for some 2D animation to reference from SmallBuStudio, so thank you to them for the help! Tenna is cute… Huh, I already said that…?

Hello, Could I Possibly Ask For A Pesterquest Sprite Edit Of Jake? He Was Still Just His Regular Human Self, But His Glasses Had Thicker, Dark Green Rims. His Hair Was A Little More Messy And Slightly Curly, And He Had A Bit Of Stubble And A Quite Prominent Scar Across Both Eyes, From One Temple To The Other. He Had Several More, Though Where Those Are Is Up To You. He Usually Wore A Black Dress Shirt With A Dark Green Waistcoat On Top, And A Jade Green Tie (Though Usually It Was Quite Undone). Did you know that just because something is posted on the internet doesn’t mean it’s “free to use”?
Did you know that if you don’t credit artists for their work, it can drive them to stop drawing art for that fandom (or even fanart in general) entirely?
Did you know that if you don’t know who drew something, you shouldn’t use it?
Did you know that saying “credit to whoever drew it” isn’t proper credit to the artist?
Did you know that editing or cropping an image does not excuse you from crediting the artist?
Did you know that if you want to find out who drew something, you can use a reverse image search to find the source instead of leaving it blank or guessing?
Did you know that if you repeatedly steal artwork, you can get banned or suspended from Tumblr and many other sites in addition to having legal action taken?
Did you know that artists work hard on what they produce and they deserve respect, and that theft is extremely disrespectful?
There’s even a special page on Tumblr for people to report stolen work.
As an artist, I have a few bullet points I’d like to add:
Even if you know who drew something, even if you credit it plainly, obviously and frequently, that doesn’t make it automatically okay for you to use for your RP. Many artists don’t want their work reposted or used anywhere for any reason. And damn near every artist doesn’t want you using their personal art & ocs as your “faceclaim.”
Ask before you use art of any sort for your rp/faceclaim
If they don’t respond, assume it’s a no.
If they say no, THAT MEANS NO.
The artist’s rights & wishes trump ANY desires you may have. Period.
Editing and/or cropping an artist’s work without permission is EXTREMELY rude and disrespectful to the artist. And, if they aren’t utilizing a license that allows it, illegal.
I am personally sick to fucking death with watching my peers and friends haven their hard work and personal characters stolen by petulant children with no concept of respect.
It doesn’t only happen in fandoms, either. I see people getting their OCs stolen all the time. I don’t mean “oh, their character seems like mine,” either. I mean people literally ripping art done of an existing OC to use for their own.
It’s not okay. It makes me sick to my stomach with anger, and the worry that someday it will happen to me. It’s already part of why I so rarely draw fanart. It makes me wonder if it’s worth it to keep posting my art up. It’s not okay.
Ever hear of LookHuman? You probably know them as the website that has apparel and accessories with catchy slogans and phrases that fit right in with the tumblr community’s sense of humor.
Well, that’s because a large number of those catchy slogans and phrases, along with artwork, were made by tumblr users and used without credit or permission.
That’s right: LookHuman repeatedly and routinely steals/plagiarizes and profits off the work and words of others.

LookHuman is a company that preys on artists. They profit off other people’s work. None of the money from their sales go back to the original artists or originators of the artwork, slogans, and phrases they use. None of these people were credited.
Bottom line: See a cute shirt with a catchy phrase on LookHuman’s website? Chances are it’s already being sold by the original poster.
Don’t like seeing companies like this thrive? Don’t allow them to.

Tell LookHuman that you do not support art theft and plagiarism, and demand that they stop engaging in these practices. Refuse to buy from their store until they change their policies and begin crediting the artists whose work they are profiting off of.
