What do you get with Identity Management Solution?

Identity Management (IDM) solutions come in various sizes. At the barebones it consist if Active Directory and/or LDAP which store account credentials and group memberships.

For smaller organizations this could be sufficient. For larger organizations, which require more automation, there will be business middleware software residing above the directories. The middleware software automated the granting and revoking of access privileges.

Above the business middleware there often resides systems if references (SOR) that house personal records of employees and contractors. These Human Resources software applications maintain who is considered active in the organization - examples if HR software applications are PeopleSoft, SAP.
