helena couldn’t help but let out a small giggle, her lips forming into an innocent smile. “right,” she replied - her shoulders slumping just a bit. when he spoke, she could feel her heart flutter just a bit as his did all the same. even if she had been hurt and they had been hurt by eachother, it wasn’t fair to continue the blame on him. in all honesty, this wasn’t the first time river had shown up under the influence. “oh shut up,” she played - the same smile staying on her lips. “i sometimes give a shit about you too, but you already know that.”

Stella had clearly spun herself one too many times– side stepping mid swirl and accidentally bumping into someone in the process. She’d held out her hand to steady them apologetically, “oh shit. Sorry, total bulldozer move there. I just got a little dizzy from all the twirling.”

Things like this weren’t really Violet’s thing so while she had agreed to go, she had end up finding a little corner to sit alone, drinking her drink quietly as she watched everyone dance around her. All of a sudden someone spoke and her eyes snapped up, “Oh! I wasn’t staring at you I swear, I was just looking around, sorry.”

‘jesus,’ she whispered - holding out her hands in order to stop the male from falling. once he held his own balance, the female grabbed onto his arm. “come on,” her voice was softly, seeing as it was so late at night. once she got the male entirely into her room, the brunette closed the door behind them. “how drunk are you?” she asked, helping him towards her bed. “honestly, how much have you had riv?” even if their relationship had ended in a bad way, she would always care about him. that wasn’t something she could deny.

feeling like he was in his own haze, river was surprised to feel helena helping him into her room. not that it wasn’t what he was hoping for upon arrival. nodding, he followed her lead, trying not to stumble along the way. “ drunk? not me. “ but the words came out as slurred as they could. once he was close enough to her bed, he fell against it, sitting up as he thought about the question. he didn’t know how to respond, mostly because he lost track just as he always did when he was on a long bender. “ enough to be here in your room. and sadly not enough to act like i don’t give a shit about you. “

helena had been having a boring couple of weeks. with everything going on with hudson, the brunette had decided to keep to herself. seeing as that night was the exact same, the young girl had been tucked beneath her blankets and in front of her computer - countless of movies flying by her eyes. a glass of white wine was on her bed side table and patrick dempsey was coming through her eyes - the sound of a knock interrupting every  part of her concentration. a small huh came silently through her mouth before she began to climb out of her bed. a hand grabbed at the door and when she saw river standing behind it, her jaw slightly dropped. ‘ i - ‘ was all she could say before cocking her head to the side. ‘ whats wrong? are you okay?’

admittedly river was having a hard time not being truthful to helena. she understood and many others hadn’t. instead, he opted for the stubborn route. crossing his arms he let out a ragged exhale. “ don’t act like you actually care to know what’s going on with me. “ of course with how intoxicated he actually was, there wasn’t much of a filter that could stop the words from leaving his lips. “ i just wanted to see you, that’s all. i -- i don’t know. “ he shrugged, spinning, but in the process nearly losing his balance.

another night river found himself too drunk to function and too high to care to. not wanting to dare step into the sigma nu house, he had to at least appear responsible. instead he found himself sitting on a campus bench, scrolling through pictures of his phone -- of course the ones he stumbled upon were with the ones he should’ve deleted long ago. he fought himself to text or call her, but instead angry and too drunk to pull himself from the idea, he started to walk toward the kappa house. once he was let inside, he stumbled up to her door, knocking loudly and already slurring his words without volume.
