Why does calliope look like Billy from Jigsaw ?

Andrew Hussie has attached quite a few Saw references to the cherubs throughout Homestuck, starting pretty early on with the Billy puppets present in the Strider apartment. 

This doesn’t seem like a direct connection at first glance until you remember that this is the Lil Cal housing the souls of Caliborn, Arquius and (half of) Gamzee.

Figures that the Homestuck kid with the most abusive guardian would turn out to be the one in possession of the cursed puppet.

Caliborn had to sever his leg to free himself from the shackle, which is also a direct reference to the movie.

Then of course we have Caliborn repeatedly mentioning just how much he loves playing games, as well as his final words:

Okay, hot take? Bisexual and pansexual are functionally synonyms, and the decision to ID as one or the other comes down to personal preference and interpretation, and any attempt to further separate the two is driving a wedge between two communities that should have nothing but love and solidarity for one another. 

We have more in common than not, and the words for our respective identities should not be pitted against each other.

There is a distinction between pansexual and bisexual but it is a very fine line, so fine that people who fit the definition for pansexual better may ID as bisexual instead for a variety of personal reasons and vice versa. But there is a distinction and acting like they are perfect synonyms can be quite invalidating.

Bisexual - attraction to multiple genders where gender is a factor within the attraction, and can include a preference for one gender over another, or attraction that feels different when it’s directed at a specific gender.

Pansexual- attraction to people regardless of gender. Gender is not a factor, you’d expect a blanket sensation of attraction regardless of which gender it is attracted to, and no sense of intuitive gender preference (though perhaps a logical one).

Notice that neither of these definitions actually exclude transgender or non-binary people and arguing otherwise is biphobic and transphobic. But there is still a distinction - practically, the issues they face and the relationships they will end up in are the same, but emotionally and subjectively they feel different.

Me reading post four: OH I never heard that distinction before. Being attracted to masculine ppl DOES feel different to me than being attracted to feminine ppl. It never occurred to me that pansexual people experienced attraction different from me in that way. Today I have learned something.

tbh people can say “self-dx is bad!!!!” all they want but it won’t change the fact that many psychologists/therapists/etc have stated self diagnosis is fine and valid, so long as you’ve actually researched it and are using it to pinpoint your issues.

my therapists don’t care when i bring up bpd; they’ve said that as long as it helps me categorise what’s going on in my head, that’s fine. (and i mean. i’m literally getting referred for a bpd diagnosis because i brought it up.) and yes! they’ve said self-dx is valid! by saying ‘i think i have [mental illness]’, you’re actually making it easier for your therapist/etc because you’re pinpointing your problem areas under a recognised label. even if you don’t have the disorder, you still have the symptoms you need help with, and using the label helps sum them up.

furthermore, even if you got a professional dx, you could get two different diagnoses by two different psychologists. in that case, what use is a professional diagnosis? it’s hindering more than helping because it gives unclear answers. a psychologist’s job is to figure out what you have, and sometimes even they’re not clear, so you end up with a mis-dx and inappropriate treatment. hell, the whole reason i’m getting a referral is because of that — the psychologists i’m currently with don’t specialise in PDs, so they genuinely cannot tell whether i have one or not. and shit like that isn’t uncommon.

it’s fine to be critical of self-diagnosis, because it is something that should only be done after researching heavily (i spent years and am still researching), instead of as an excuse for bad behaviours/jumping on a trend/etc.

you can only receive a diagnosis if your problems are causing you - or other people - distress. a diagnosis is just a way for therapists and psychologists to categorise what help you need. if you’re using self-diagnosis to help you find ways to help yourself, which is literally what a prof diagnosis does, then there’s no harm in that. using self dx as an excuse/to make having MIs a trend/doing it with little research is entirely different to seriously researching it for months/years before claiming you have something.

you know yourself better than anyone else, and yes, actual psychologists will attest to that.

attack on titan is not worth caring about and i am deeply disturbed by its existence. not because of the vore. not because of the gore. but because i am caught up with the manga and know where it goes.

and here is my personal advice: if attack on titan is your big thing and you are not caught up on the manga, just…start looking at other series. try. you might not be completely crushed by the things that end up happening but

not worth it. it is not worth it to care deeply about or defend, there is not really any defending the horrible things it does…do not feel the need to defend it because you love it. please examine it critically if you are caught up and just accept that horrible awful terrible fucking decisions were made. i will not be a ball of anger at anyone who still is entertained but

do not defend it. there is no way to defend writing a story about shocking horrible violent vore for the sake of shock and horror and having it be about what it is

season 2 is coming out and if you watch it please…do not keep your hopes up for the rest of the series even if the season is well-made. i have no idea how far it will animate this time but i have reason to doubt that the entire manga will be animated or that it will be animated faithfully.

and i sure fucking hope it does not, or that at least it does and it gets enough backlash to open up conversation…
