I think you can start a female-centered community even if you are only one woman. Or if it's just you and a friend. This idea that we have to wait until every woman decides to cooperate or until the revolution builds itself, won't work. We FIRST build it ourselves, how we can, with whatever resources we have, then get in contact with each other and discuss how to progress, share our different experiences living in different communities all over the world, and THAT WAY we start building our international network. I think we need to throw away the idea that the conditions and money and time and weather and everything has to be perfectly aligned to work together towards our shared goal.

I don't really think it's financially manipulative to have a maid. The kids still have chores and pick up after themselves, it's the main cleaning duties that I do usually on a sunday (mop all the floors, do the laundry, clean out the fridge) that are being outsourced, which is fine! I think it's great that she can afford a maid.

What fucks me up is that the husband both, does not want to clean and also does not want to pay for cleaning.

They should be splitting that maid cost 50/50 because it's his house too. If he doesn't want to pay for a maid then have the maid only do the wife's half of the chores and be even stevens with it. Grown ass man getting butt hurt cause his wife ain't the one cleaning his house but she's over there paying off their retirements. Meanwhile he's a teacher eho can HOPE to have money when he retires, probably why he feels like he needs to be a cheapskate. Let him be frugal then with HIS time and HIS money!

Chores can be flexible and negotiable and who knows what kind of bills he has paid on her behalf as well. Financials within a married couple can get convoluted like that, but there's plenty of ways to solve a situation like this including (if you can afford it) paying someone to do it and going even stevens.

I'm just going to say it - body hair (and beauty standards in general) is truly one of the final frontiers of women's issues in the West. Too many women just love their gilded cage too much. It shocks me how virulently women will defend it. I barely open my mouth and the "well I like how it feels. it just makes me feel cleaner. sensory issues. I do it for me. feminism is about choosing (to conform)." brigade come rushing in by the dozens.

Well I don't like how it feels. I don't feel cleaner without body hair. I don't prefer not having body hair. But who will advocate for women like me, but me? For women who do like hair removal, they are advocated for every time they step out of the house and see 99% of the female population also conforming to that standard, or when they watch a movie and see all the shaved actresses, or view an advertisment, or open a magazine, or watch a music video, or scroll through social media, or walk down the streets without receiving insults and glares for having a completely normal bodily feature.

You genuinely can't even point out that hairlessness is a man-made standard without women losing their shit and acting like they are totally immune to propaganda they've been exposed to from birth. I'm so tired.

A big part of the reason I don't want kids is simply that I don't think I would be a good parent. I'm short-tempered and can be vicious when I'm angry. I hate loud noises, repetitive noises, sticky sensations, and being touched when I'm not expecting it. I like getting drunk and high. I like doing things quickly and efficiently. I always have to be at least 15 minutes early to everything. I have horrible sleep as it is, and that's living alone and having a big comfy bed all to myself and never having to get up in the night unless I need to pee. I love being alone and doing things by myself.

Other people have always rushed to console me when I say this -- "you can learn to get good at it! I was the same way before I had kids!" But like. I don't want to change. I like my life and I like doing things the way I want to do them. In many ways I'm a lot like the woman who raised me, who I can best describe through the anecdote that she didn't let us have balloons on our birthdays because there was a chance they could pop and make a loud noise that would hurt her ears. I love her and I always will, but there was a lot of warmth and comfort I needed that she just wasn't able to give me and I know I would probably be the same way. It wasn't her choice to have to raise me. I get to make a choice that she didn't.

Women in particular are shamed for possessing the qualities I've listed above. It's seen as morally wrong for women to not be intrinsically nurturing, endlessly self-sacrificing, interminably patient. I get that we will be shamed a lot for admitting that we aren't. But I hope that those of us who lack those qualities can just accept that, because it's a terrible thing to bring an unwitting child into the world just to prove to the haters that you're not a cold mean b*tch.

I think basically everyone has what I like to call a “misogyny release valve”- a group of women that they feel is acceptable to release their misogynistic energy on (consciously or unconsciously). I think that whether or not you actively use it, it’s there. Like you can train yourself not to use it but if you catch yourself being misogynistic in your head the most common target is like your misogyny release valve.

I also think that a person’s particular release valve is going to depend on your upbringing and experiences and also your culture. Like a common release valve is promiscuous women, or women who disagree with the person politically. Sometimes it’s women of a specific minority race or ethnic background because the person has some particular racist tendencies (victim blaming Muslim women when they are abused by their husbands, Black women are a huge release valve demographic). Could also be impoverished women or single mothers, etc. And there are absolutely cases where people’s release valve is women who have some privilege over the person (I’ve seen some pretty awful misogyny where someone just slapped straight or white in front of women and others went with it).

i used to get uncomfortable when people stared/commented on my body hair. now i just feel pity.

for the woman at the supermarket staring at me reaching for the top shelf, who told her husband i must have forgotten which aisle the razors are on. how trapped are you that not only are you offended by armpit hair, but feel the need to point it out to your husband/boyfriend to mock me. did she want him to know she would never be so disgusting? did she think i was entertaining?

to the little girl at the park who asked why my legs are hairy, she was definitely under 8, and she’s been brainwashed into thinking women should have hairless legs already.

i’m sure most women who don’t shave have tons of experiences like this, and that’s not my point. it’s just another small reminder that performative femininity has been so engrained into womanhood that women themselves tighten their shackles without a second thought, and are shocked upon seeing a woman who doesn’t do the same.

I've reblogged this already, but I love this addition. It just proves how valuable it is for little girls to see GNC women. Kids don't have a long lifetime of indoctrination hammered into their brain telling them that natural female body hair is disgusting, so it's much easier for them to understand that, yeah, it is just like a beard. It's just hair that you can simply choose not to remove.
