while i'm still kicking the hornets nest a bit here, I just want to say that I think it's funny that 'gifted kid burnout' has become such a widespread sentiment that people who were not in gifted programs but still received pressure to perform academically identify with it, and yet none of these people have figured it out that that children being pressured, physically and emotionally abused by teachers and parents, made to tie their self worth to their grades, made to think of their classmates as competition, etc are not unique experiences to the higher achieving but intended experiences for all children as they are digested by the school system
