Considering WB is doing almost nothing to promote DC's Blue Beetle after three back-to-back-to-back box office failures, let this post be a reminder that Blue Beetle is just over a month away!! If you want to know why you should support this upcoming DC movie, here's why: • Blue Beetle is the first live action Latino superhero film • The film stars Cobra Kai's Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, Singer and Actress Becky G as the voice of the Scarab and George Lopez as Jaime's crazy uncle Rudy. • Blue Beetle is the first character in DC Studios' DCU timeline, as confirmed by DC Studios Co-Owner James Gunn • As stated above, Blue Beetle is part of the DCU world filled with superheroes. However, and thankfully, the past DCEU films are not relevant at all to Blue Beetle -- as confirmed by the movie's director Angel Manuel Soto. • Blue Beetle was made as "the first act of a saga" and is currently planned to have a trilogy, assuming the first film does well. • The Hollywood Reporter's sources believe that if Blue Beetle does do well and if it ends up getting a positive reception, Xolo Mariduena's Blue Beetle can end up appearing in the upcoming Booster Gold show. So, I've been on a big Disney kick lately as I've started my first ever watch through of every Pixar movie ever made -- no I haven't made it far, I just got to Toy Story 2. However, this new journey I've started made me randomly want to watch Disney's Treasure Planet and y'all, we need to have a discussion. Treasure Planet might be one of the most impressive, heartwarming, awe-inspiring and phenomenal movies I've reviewed thus far on Letterboxd.

The animation of the movie is stellar, thanks to its blend of 2D, 2.5D and even sometimes, 3D animation. The aesthetics of the movie feels completely original due to its mix of space, pirates and technology themes. The story is linear yet incredibly epic and grandiose for a sub-2 hour film. Treasure Planet lacks any key musical moments but the orchestral soundtrack comes in the clutch towards the latter half of the film. Disney has always written incredibly well thought-out protagonists but Jim Pleiades Hawkins might just be one of the most relatable Disney characters ever due to his whole journey focusing on him finding his way. Treasure Planet's Villain creates such a cool back-and-forth element due to him constantly tugging on the viewers heart as you simply want him to change for the better. The supporting cast of characters, while slightly unmemorable, bring out the best in Jim and do their job of getting you emotionally invested in the film. And, most importantly, the film is just one hell of a good time.

And how can I forget? Treasure Planet has one of the most beautifully written quotes ever put in animated kids film:

“You got the makings of greatness in you, but you gotta take the helm and chart your own course! Stick to it, no matter the squalls! And when the time comes, you'll get the chance to really test the cut of your sails and show what you're made of!"

The ONLY thing I can hold against Treasure Planet is that it lacks the key ingredient that made most Disney films have a lasting effect all these years later: memorable music numbers. It has one musical number and although it's *good*, it clearly wasn't enough to keep the movie in people's memory. Even after all these years later, people don't talk about Treasure Planet's music number, they talk about everything else regarding Treasure Planet such as how cool Solar Surfing is. If this movie had at least 2-3 key musical numbers, I genuinely think Treasure Planet would've been up there with the other Disney greats all these years later.

For a movie that came out in 2002, Treasure Planet has every right to be deemed an underrated gem of a movie. Disney, I'm begging you for the first time ever here, please remake Treasure Planet. I genuinely think it'd be successful if the visuals were handled with an immense amount of care.

For everyone of us US Folks that are going to have to live through the next four years of hell, I just want to remind you that it's perfectly understandable to invest in any and every one of your offline interests going forward. Doomscrolling the next four years of our lives isn't going to help us at all, especially with TikTok essentially becoming a right-wing leaning platform overnight and Meta doing whatever they can to fall in line with Trump. Invest in yourself and your people (friends, family) by investing in your own offline interests and hobbies. Create that small little comfort zone and world that'll help you and your people get through the next four years. Buy your favorite movies (physically!), buy more books (physically!), rebuy those childhood consoles or video games you no longer have, build up a stock of LEGOs to build or collect whatever it is that'll help bring you a sense of joy and escapism. Do whatever it is you need to do to in order to create an offline world or ecosystem that makes you and your people feel a sense of safety.
