The blond haired boy quietly stepped into the dark abandoned shack, the place feeling so empty but so full of somebody’s presence at the same time.
Slowly peeking around the corner of the wall that was separating the kitchen from the entrance, he looked at the person sitting in the lowly lit room comfortably, yet so distressed at the same time.
“You’re late.” the person finally looked up to where JJ was standing with eyes full of concern.
“Wait, is she angry? I thought she was going to tick off as soon as I came into the house.” the boy let his thoughts fill up his mind as he wondered what was going on.
“I’m so sorry babe. I got stuck on marsh with John B and Pope. They thought they got some more information about the treasure.” JJ started explaining the matter carefully.
You simply nodded and continued the staring game with the floor beneath your feet. You felt some tears pricking your eyes, the worries slowly getting in the back of your mind and annoyance seeping through. Not wanting to act on said thoughts, you continued to pick at your fingernails in hopes of calming yourself down.
“Are you upset?”
“No, not really.” you answered swiftly, not wanting him to hear the accidental break in your voice, if there happened to be one.
Walking through the kitchen, JJ got to the couch you were sitting on and sat beside you while engulfing your whole frame in his arms. You tried not to seem off-beat, but at the same time, you weren’t really in the mood for physical affection from the boy who made you feel like this.
JJ was quick to feel the tenseness in your body, so he kissed your cheek and pulled away. Something about your behavior felt off. He tried to look into your eyes but that turned out to be quite difficult, seeing as you were looking at the ground the whole time.
“You’re sure you’re not mad?” he said lowly, taking your chin between his thumb and index finger in an attempt to finally see your face.
Your pupils focused on his concerned face - somehow, the concern coating his face made you even more annoyed.
“Not really sure now. Can you even comprehend how scared I was? I thought you got caught up with your fucking dad JJ!”
The sudden burst of emotions from you made JJ really surprised. His eyes almost popped out of his head at the realization that the image of his bruised body was the thing that made you this upset. His head was completely swept of all thoughts as he noticed your tear brimmed eyes.
“Why didn’t you answer your-” you continued with your rant, but your sentence was cut short as JJ pulled your body close to his and squeezed his arms around your frame.
That was the point where you lost it. The tears flowed freely down your cheeks and into his grey shirt, marking the fabric with the salty liquid.
“I’m so sorry.”
