Before Chapter 5 I have the answer to the biggest gripe with Rudy knight. Something I've yet to see anyone consider. He's not somehow managing to aurafarm and run across town making dark fountains despite being sick. He is sick because he's the knight. Perhaps as a side effect of i don't know, magically concentrating his power into small time periods that leave him utterly knackered afterwards. Or the power itself is radioactive. And the actual reason he is so vague about it is because he can't exactly tell them what's been happening. We know the conspiracy has been going on before we entered the picture, just as we know Rudy's been sick sometime before that as well. We have no timeline on when. Perhaps he knows that when he finishes he will eventually recover, or perhaps he isn't so sure. He's hoping to be optimistic.

I think if Kris could hear the average soul they would think of them as emotionally unstable and petulant. Specifically in response to the Sans thing. Like Kris really doesn't like this random guy who's 'befriending' their mother. But murder? From someone who seemed to adore him up until a few moments ago. That's a little extreme.

I don't remember if I talked about this on here before. But. Vinegar Doppio, from jjba part 5.

He acts like a teenager with the baby face to match. But he isn't.

Nobody ever tells him anything, there's constantly large unexplained gaps in his memory. So he's constantly acting the fool but he isn't stupid.

He knows what position he's in. He might not remember exactly how he got there, or how he's given this much leniency considering his whole everything.

It's simpler to act the fool, it's simpler to pretend to be a kid. People is much more forgiving to that. He doesn't remember how old he actually is.

But he's learnt that if he's speaking to someone and then suddenly is facing the other way, it's just better to not look back.

The boss really is too lenient.

I think the reason for Ford being so quick to forgive Fiddleford for the egregious things he's done (The memory gun, the cult kidnapping people around the memory gun, did I mention using the memory gun on Ford personally and lying about it being destroyed) is because Ford kind of sees himself (unconsciously perhaps) in Fidds. He did it for the greater good, he just wanted to help everyone (as opposed to Ford who just wanted greatness). It mirrors the mistakes Ford's made, and Fiddles suffered greatly from it. Really the whole reason Fidds did all that was because of Ford. And it's been so long since anyway. All this cumulates into that while Ford recognises it as a wrong thing to do, he mentally categorises it as another reason listening to Bill was a terrible idea and kind of just shelves it away. But if you think about it, the whole memory gun thing is real fucked up. And some tend to forget (hah get it) Fiddleford's very active role in starting all of it. I'd love a fic that explores some of that. And Ford's dismissive attitude towards it. Perhaps some of the townsfolk eventually want to rewatch what was taken from them. (Considering the secret cult aspect of it and that it spiralled completely out of control, I must imagine it's only a matter of time until they stumble upon something really dark)

Fiddleford falls through the portal.

(Idk what happens with Ford or how Stan gets involved yet...)

Unlike Ford, Fiddles doesn't rack up an interdimensional crime record.

Because he unlike Ford, knows how to interact with people. He knows when to back down, and he doesn't needlessly antagonise people he just met. He's conflict avoidant and would rather keep his head down. And being in a strange new land, that instinct serves him well. But he's also friendly, open, and after a few false starts, trying to be accepting of all kinds of people.

The second thing is that he has a mind wiping gun. How are people going to arrest him for something that nobody remembers happening.

He would like to get back, but not at the cost of letting something come with him.

He ends up developing a bit of a following. A lot of useful things to invent, to help people in their day to day. (He develops a memory gun that can't be taken away from him) He tinkers with a whole lot of different stuff.

He starts wearing red.

He learns some basics in projecting himself into dreams of others. A calming presence. (searching for something. someone)

He learns to smile without really meaning it. Adopts comforting way of being, all the time, it is rooted in something genuine, so it works.

It's not a lie, it's just missing parts of the truth.

And then he is returned, to a world of a great many things he thought he would never see again, people he'd put behind him. And a cult he didn't think would still be around to this day.

SO! About Fiddleford (Correct me if I'm wrong) it seems to be implied that he is, was religious, Christian. But I don't believe he's actually all that religious. (Not during the building of the portal.) I also HC him as in the closet I could definitely see him raised Christian, entrenched in it, believes in it, up until he doesn't. Up until he goes to college, meets new people, sees the world. At first it's just a they might be wrong about this thing, or a maybe that person didn't really represent god's word. Up until it doesn't make sense anymore. The thing with a religious upbringing is that a whole belief system doesn't fall apart all in an afternoon. Especially when certain ideas are more generally accepted, and not specifically connected to religion. (Years and years after you still find your mind going into certain patterns of thought, without knowing where you first learned that) And really isn't the most important part of it community, to love thy neighbour. He can still believe in the spirit of it without believing in the specifics. He isn't really in the mood to be ostracised by his whole family So he really tries. With the important stuff, as he sees it then. Some of it goes well, some of it... well, wouldn't it be easier if he was just normal? He really tries to like her like that. Maybe raising a child will bring them closer together. Maybe marriage was what they were missing. It doesn't work. Sure he adores his child. But it doesn't work. It was never going to work. And there is no turning back now. He can't change himself, only pretend. And he supposes he's going to die pretending. Is that really so bad? He'd rather do that than have to face the fallout of revealing everything now. And nobody will get hurt! Sure he might not be as happy as he theoretically could be, but chasing impossible goals seems like an unwise idea. Dropping everything to hang out with his old college roommate in the middle of the woods is just part of work.

Fiddleford and Bill. And Ford, Ford has no idea. Bill loves this whole possession thing, it's great fun, and he's going to use this body to the fullest. Sure he can't really go too far with the self inflicted pain, he still wants to keep Ford's body working, and he thinks there's a line where he won't actually be able to still string Ford along. So a few minor "accidents" here and there will be enough until he gets the portal up and running. What he can do in the meantime is try out other fun human activities. And Ford got a perfectly fine assistant right here already, great fun to mock and tease relentlessly too. Fiddles figures it out before old Sixer does. And the funniest thing is, he doesn't want Ford to know. What he gets up to with his possessed body. It's hilarious. Even invented a memory gun, and isn't that messed up! He even used it on himself, the maniac. And Ford, Ford has no idea.

So hear me out, Ramb x Soul. Specifically Weird Route Soul.

Really playing into the villainy, and intent of finding every little messed up piece of content. The hidden game is like a gift for them. And they love Ramb for it.

He doesn't really know they exist at first.

So of course they need to show their appreciation.

Which includes talking through Kris with a voice not their own. Being kind of creepy and condescending.

Ramb is casual, but does notice how off this is. Also everyone kind of hates him so he'll take any affection he can get.

I think I've postured this idea before but. Light doesn't regain his memories, still becomes Kira. (That whole death note switcheroo bury in the woods. Tough shit, you gave up your memories once, you're not getting them back. Sucks to suck) Maybe he realises it's all sounds like exactly something he could've done. Or maybe that he is the only one worthy of the power of Kira. And in a sense it becomes less about an escape from boredom, a way to relieve stress, to take off the mask. No. Now he has a role to fill. Put on the mask again and become the ideals which Kira claims to uphold. Make it fit within his good boy persona. (Retroactively reframe all his previous fuckups and impulse choices as carefully calculated. As he always does.) Make himself believe in it. I'd imagine it'd make him more insane somehow.

You're a successful writer of a rather surreal series, each book putting your protagonist through weirder and wilder situations than the last. As you go to begin work on the next entry you hear a knock at your door; somehow it's your protagonist and they are not happy with you at all!

Imagine hero, bad parent

and villain good parent.

Being a hero makes you really busy, and if you have a choice between saving the life of two people or be in time to pick up your kid's soccer practice, well.. (There's an argument to be made that maybe they shouldn't have gotten a child when they clearly never have time for it) The villain, very much aware of what they do for a living. Not very proud of it. But also so very determined to never fuck up like their parents. Make sure their kid never has to feel like they have to do what they're doing. Their kids go to the same middle school. The hero is a bit of a local celebrity, though their kid doesn't really advertise their relation. The villain nobody knows as such, because being known is a surefire way of being targeted.

So I’ve been playing the off remake and while I’ve seen a lot of people lament the loss of pepper steak.

Meanwhile I’m here “Where is my bowl of water?? Where are my train bells (or whatever those are)?”

The few bonus boss tracks I’ve heard so far are great.

Though I feel like the pure zones are a bit easy? Like encountering those beings the first time and they beat me within an inch of my life, though the xp they rewarded, insane. It should make you terrified the first time you encounter them. I feel like they’re kind of lost their edge…

Anyway the menu system is so nice and I like the battle system, it’s fun.

I would do literally anything for Kris. End the world? Yup. Save the world? Yup. While keeping this all secret to Susie. I’ll save all them all, or get rid of them all. Kris just has to point and I’ll do it!

Idc if Kris is “evil” (I have the distinct feeling that they really don’t want to do this.)

I was sitting there under the angel statue just waiting for them to leave. I would’ve waited longer if it actually worked.

Kris just has to point. I am locked in at this point. If the ending has us sacrifice ourselves so Kris can live a free life then I am all in.

I’ll defy the one on the phone, defeat the knight. If that’s what they want. I am determined enough. Follow along without problem, if not. Kris just please tell me.

Typical fantasy world, typical fantasy adventuring party. Except the healing mage is wearing scrubs. But mages tend to be a bit eccentric so the party don't think much of it. They carry around an odd assortment of unfamiliar medicines, vials, syringes, scalpels, with unfamiliar looking text upon it. Not the typical things that a mage carries around. But they're a foreigner, and probably some kind of pharmacist/potioneer beforehand. They know some healing spells after all, it's enough for an adventuring group who's just starting out and isn't planning anything dramatic. Maybe the party should've paid more attention to the odd sense of urgency they always seemed to carry. Like they're running from something... or perhaps.. to something.

So I have yet to play ch3-4, still in internet quarantine.

But.

Kris disassociating so very hard, theory. “If I just was not myself, life would be so much easier”

This goes hand in hand with the “Kris did something that incited the possession” theory

And Kris probably got a not great self image. If we put the red horns incident in the back of our minds, (the they’re the only human in a town of monsters and nobody thought to explain that to them). And the spending a lot of time in the bathroom with the sink running, just.. “they do this sometimes”.

And how quickly they latched onto Susie after she insulted and threatened them, in the span of a single day… because she wanted to be friends. almost like they feel like they deserve to be treated like that, and are delighted that Susie still wants to be friends despise how much of a freak weirdo they view themselves as.

Uhh… where am I going with this? Snowgrave? What I thought during that was mostly, yep, Kris must be dissociating so hard rn.

Anyway imagine how horrifying it would be if Kris found out that we’re human too, and not some force pf nature… if they didn’t know already.
