ok everyone we had a good run but itās time to cancel the meme now
Tumblr has been actively losing money, canāt attract worthwhile advertisers, and canāt support influencers. This is the bare minimum the business can do otherwise. Although I would agree that @relientk needs recognition (although legally speaking tumblr is our publisher).
Yeah I meanā¦.tumblr DOES kinda need money to function as a site. And they could go about it in the malicious and invasive ways that other social media sites (such as twitter and facebook) are doing, but instead theyāre offering fun features like gifting crabs or buying rainbow checkmarks that donāt have a negative impact on your experience if you choose not to purchase, and turning tumblr staples and jokes into merch that people can buy.
I mean, I would like a free bottle because Iām the source of the vanilla extract meme and wasnāt even aware they were selling a water bottle until people began tagging me, but Iām all for them selling cool merchandise that keeps the site up and running.

Stop reacting to Tumblr and AO3 moneymaking the same way or worse than how you react to other corporations. Tumblr is losing money and is doing itās damnedest to not be absolutely covered with ads. Nobody is forcing you to buy the goddamned water bottle. This IS a really cool thing theyāre doing. Theyāre showing us they care and are paying attention. I personally think thatās kinda cool.

Second, I only ever made three of these, all with the sane motor, and it's very weak so I mostly used it to practice line work on plastic cups, but the effect can be achieved with much more force with a bigger motor. Actually you know what imma just film another video

i think the funniest and realist thing iāve realized lately is how troubling idealization can be. every person is justā¦ a person. the very people you want to impress or be apart of are just people. even if they seem wildly intimidating because of the way they look or because of their reputation, every one is just a person. human. as embarrassing, as remorseful and they are going through stages of growth just like you are. we only see what we want to see and then drown ourselves further in our own depression and we donāt have to.
truly and i am learning the less i idealise others, the more willing i am to meet people where they are warts n all. and the more willing i am to show myself too and bring my whole self into things. my own embarrassment becomes a new normal and fine thing. stumbling becomes more endearing.
had a teacher once who told us āidealizing people is just as dehumanizing as demonizing themā and that stuck with me so much
