You see, as we Marvel experts know, in the comics Nicholas “Fury” Smith is a famous pacifist activist who speaks out against vigilante justice as a perversion of the American legal system. The nickname “Fury” is a reference to the furious passion of his convictions—although his temperament is always peaceable and non-aggressive.
I, like many fans, am disappointed that the film producers have chosen to ignore the subtle critique of a culture of hero worship by turning Fury into a caricature, a belligerent man with anger issues who supports superheroes who act outside the law.
It’s like they haven’t read the comics at all.
