The final gift was for our conductor, whose favourite animal is a capybara. If I were going to make this again I would modify some of the stitch counts, especially in the backpack and the placement of the arms, but the end result is very cute.

I've never made amigurumi the way this pattern is made up, and it's definitely not a beginner pattern. Still not sure how I feel about it.

Continuing on the theme of staff gifts, I made this little guy for our accompanist. It's a little hedgehog and is no-sew, although there are quite a lot of colour changes between the brown and the cream.

I like how the ears were made using front loops on the first row and then crocheting into the back loops on the second row, it made such a great effect without having to have separate pieces.

I Was Sad So I Crocheted: The Blanket.

This is a Mermaid Scales rainbow blanket made by corner-to-corner crochet. The goal was to use up some spare yarn, but in the process I may have gathered more than I used up.

I managed to run out of orange, green, and blue yarn so bought more to finish those rows. (And then ran out of the orange again, hence the black spot. Will sew my name there or something). I ran out of black so asked a friend if they had a spare ball. They did, and also brought a huge bag of mega-balls of varying colours that they had no use for.

Using up my stash is going well!

To finish I will weave in the remaining ends (I was relatively good about doing them as I go so I don't have a lot to do) and add a black border for a little width.

Owl beanie! I learnt how to cable knit recently for a different project, and had this yarn left over from trying to colour-match a scrap yarn blanket.

The owl motif would definitely be clearer if I added eyes (through buttons or stitching) onto the owls, but I thought I would finish a project instead of procrastinating over the finishing touches.

I declare it to be done! It's good enough. :)

These musical notes are an attempt to (1) make some staff gifts for the volunteers of the choir camp I'm running, and (2) use up some yarn that I've had left over for ~6-7years.

I've completed 4, almost completed 1 (minus sewing), and then I have 4 more to make.

Another on-the-go project, two crocheted hats for my friend's daughters. They are obsessed with a Canadian show called Dino Dana, and I received a bunch of yarn from their grandmother, so hats I am making!

The head and the bonnet pieces are made from two different patterns and a bunch of trial-and-error. I've also purchased some cheap cotton fabric for the head elements and the "magical backpack" pieces.

Their favourite colours are yellow and pink, hence picking those specific dinosaurs, but there are a whole bunch to choose from in the show. (The half-done head piece is more of a hot pink colour, the camera did not pick it up at all).

As they are going to be gifts, I really hope my ADHD lets me finish them.

It continues! We now have a finished head (that I had undo and reattach because I didn't like how it sat), teefs, and eyes.

You can see the pink colour way better in that photo, who knew that taking photos with more light would work better?

Still to do: a few finishing details with the crochet, then make the head frills and the wings out of fabric.

I'm designing and making a beaded kaleidocycle, at least an origami folding net.

Couldn't find any designs that I liked, so I'm drawing my own, with each picture being a bird found in Western Australia.

I've drawn two out of four pictures:

A Long-Billed Corella,

and a Gouldian Finch.

Realised with the second picture that I can alter the transparency and "trace" a photo, which made it much quicker to get the dimensions to look reasonable. (You can see the remnants of grid marks on the first picture where I used the grid method to draw).

A lot of people seem to mix up ‘community’ with ‘friend group’ so when they read ‘no one should be abandoned by the community. No matter what they did’ they think it means ‘you have to be friends with abusers’. When in reality it means ‘no matter what someone does they shouldnt be left to go homeless and be denied financial, housing, medical, etc aid’

You don’t have to be friends with these people, no one is saying that. It’s just saying that you should support rehabilitative justice, support programs that help homeless people, support funding for free medical services, and make sure they don’t turn away anyone who needs help.

Another super easy and fulfilling way to give back imo is to make yourself available to elderly people in your community for cleaning, yard work, and grocery/medication deliveries. I told a friend of my grandparents’ who has cancer to please tell me if she needed help with anything. And she’s been giving out my number to more of her friends. Today I’m going to clean the condo of a woman who is recovering from surgery and can’t leave the house. These people often have no one they feel like they can ask for help. Make it known that they can ask you! <3
