"ugh forced marriage? this plot is so toxic"
That's the kink
"they can barely/can't control themself from ravishing their partner? How is that portrayed as ROMANTIC??"
That's the kink
"why is the plot so fixated on how tiny the main character is compared to the love interest?"
Grisps your shoulders so firmly
Buddy you're not gonna believe this
damn people rly hate type 2 diabetics don't they
i (type 1 diabetic) was explaining autoimmune diseases to someone and she was like ohh right so yours is the good kind of diabetes where you didn't do it to yourself. to which i objected that's not how type 2 works either. and she said well that's the fat old people disease. and i was like you can't say that, a) not how it works and b) extremely rude. and her defense was her grandparents have type 2 and "did it to themselves" and since they're fat old people she reserves the right to hate on them. i understand hating shitty grandparents but YOU are the shitty one here to hate on them for their medical conditions and weight rather than literally anything else. hello?!
anyway type 2 diabetics i'm sorry about the world. everyone* be kind to type 2s or else
*note to type 1 diabetics especially we need to be better at solidarity and not cling to being the "good ones" at type 2s' expense. what the fuck is a good kind of diabetes anyway
also worth saying diabetes is a complex reaction to a not-yet-fully-understood set of factors and environmental pressures and genetics and it's reductive and fatphobic to say fat=diabetes BUT EVEN SO no matter if someone did incontrovertibly "give themself diabetes" that's not a free pass for dehumanization. shut upppp
"these researchers published a paper on something that literally any of us could have told you 🙄" ok well my supervisors wont let me write something in my thesis unless I can back it up with a citation so maybe it's a good thing that they're amplifying your voice to the scientific community in a way that prevents people from writing off your experiences as annecdotal evidence
they did the research in the first place because they believed you and wanted to tell people about it. they are not our enemies.
people always go "Instead of spending all that time on a study they could have just listened to us when we said these thing happen"
they did listen, that's how studies work, they asked people about their experiences and put all the data together in a nice package that can be cited
You gotta be really publicly passionate about things if you want your friends to text you. Bc people will forget to text you because they’re human. But if you’re really openly the friend who loves identifying ants your friends will think of you when they see ants. And they’ll text you “what ant is this [blurry photo]”. And then they’ll ask you how you’ve been and we should get coffee sometime. But if they don’t know what you love they’ll never know what you like
And then when the ant convention is in town they’ll be like dude… we should go to the ant convention. But they would never think to go if they didn’t know u loved ants
And sometimes you need to ask them to go to the ant convention. But you Will not get anywhere hiding your passions
my publisher: Good morning! Huh did you advertise for the pre-sale yesterday? Because we launched twelve hours ago and we already made sales!
me: yeah, i posted on tumblr
publisher: .........tumblr?
me: that's where the gays are.
(link to Mrs. Victoria buys a brothel, a sapphic western)
update
publisher: And what is your marketing strategy on... tumblr?
me: idk, i shitpost at 2am?
publisher: .....and it works?
me: depends on what the gays find funny at that point in time.
publisher: Could I have a link to your tumblr?
me: .......absolutely not.
(link to Mrs. Victoria buys a brothel, a sapphic western where 50 year old women kiss and murder)
update!
publisher: I've been looking into tumblr, have you thought of using Blaze to promote your book?
me: NO
publisher: But it seems like an efficient way to get this in front of more eyes-
me: people on tumblr hate Blaze.
publisher: There is no algorithm and you can't pay to promote a post? I don't understand how anyone advertises anything on tumblr.
me: That's the best part. They don't. They can't.
(trying to make him understand that we do not control the attention. We just have to show something shiny and gay enough and if people are interested, they'll reblog.)

update with picture of a pet!
This is Cosmos, my publisher's dog.
He barks at my publisher's phone notifications. So every time a book is sold, Cosmos barks.
It's been days.
I think you guys would love to know that when you buy a book, a dog barks in Vancouver, Canada.

Well, that’s one book waiting for me when I get back home! Also, please tell your publisher Cosmos is the goodest dog 💖

I have been in multiple situations where a friend group I'm not so familiar with starts making jokes about being into weirdo pervert stuff and there is a slight edge of competition to who is The Most Freakish I know for a goddamn fact that I have everyone beat in the pervert department but I can't say anything because they're probably just talking about light BDSM at most and I like things that are complete social suicide in 90% of spaces
like oh when you like puppyplay and choking its subversive and edgy but when I talk about getting my sexual awakening at 8 years old from the really fucking weird plant vore sequence in the third ice age movie it's WEIRD and EMBARRASSING i see how it is,
oh so this post stops getting notes when I make that addition, i see how it is,
tips for managing cleaning/tidying in a way that gives you a sense of control instead of dread and shame:
dishes
- wash at least one dish every day. could be a single fork. just do one. at absolute worst this means you're regularly running clean hot soapy water through the heap of backed up dishes in the sink.
- any time you have to wash a plate or utensil because you're out of clean ones, wash two of them. need a knife? wash two knives. need your only baking sheet? wash a cup too.
clutter
- overwhelmed by clutter? take out the bins and do laundry. it's very difficult to organise a space when it's full, and trash and dirty clothes take up a lot of space both physically and mentally. emptying bins makes room for the whole cycle to move.
- those little boxes and containers advertised for ADHD really do work, even if you don't have ADHD. they let you move surface clutter around even if you don't have time to sort and clear it. you can quickly box up the craft project that's been taking up your desk for two weeks, clean the surface, and put everything back.
- on that note @3liza clued me in to the power of a simple wicker basket a decade ago and it changed my life. this isn't a desk tidy, this is a medium to large box or basket without a lid that you can comfortably carry in two hands (doesn't have to be wicker). personally I like a collapsible one so I'm not tempted to fill it with stuff when it's not in use. the point of it is collecting and carrying.
- instead of taking on individual sidequests for every item in an overcluttered room, walk through with your simple wicker basket and collect everything that has to go in the kitchen. take it to the kitchen, put it away. then collect everything for the bedroom. take it to the bedroom, put it away. it's your sifter, your filter, your best friend. this is but one use of the simple wicker basket.
trash
- differentiate in your head between dry trash and wet trash. dry trash is paper, plastic wrappers, packing foam, scrap fabric, dried up pens. 'shelf stable' trash, if you like. nothing likely to leak or rot. this can be collected in small lined wastepaper size bins around the house – one in every room honestly isn't overkill. you only have to empty these when they reach the top of the container.
- wet trash is food waste, soiled or greasy food wrappers, empty bottles, sanitary products, used medication ampoules, anything contaminated by mould or pest damage, etc. the yucky stuff. this goes in a single, large, lined bin with a lid, in a central part of the house (probably the kitchen). Empty this every 3-4 days or as soon as it reaches the top of the container. it won't fill up as fast without dry trash bulking it up, and disposing of it in small amounts regularly keeps the place feeling fresh. importantly it also means the gross stuff is contained in one place, not wearing on your peripheral attention day after day making you feel bad.
generally
- everything I said about clutter and surfaces above also works for floors. you can take stuff off the floor, vacuum, and then dump that shit right back where it was. you don't have to wait for one glorious day when you have the energy to do everything.
- the longer something goes untouched, the worse it gets psychologically. if a particular area of mess is especially upsetting or daunting to you, agitate it. pick up just one thing. dust around it. divide it in two. do anything you can bear that gets you to engage with it and handle it. it's manageable. you'll get there.
- never ever ever ever feel bad about spending money on trash bags, gloves, disinfectant wipes, sponges, or whatever you need to comfortably stay on top of things. you're allowed to use cleaning products and you're allowed to just throw shit out.
this is all stuff I taught myself as an adult, and I truly do not have anything but compassion for people who haven't learned to cope with cleaning and tidying. these posts brought to you by seeing how someone older than me was living and the obvious pain and embarrassment it caused when they had to let me into their space. it's really hard and humiliating. I wish it was more socially acceptable to say "hey it's cool, would you like a hand folding that laundry" because ultimately all I want is for everyone to feel reflected by and in control of the environment they live in.
there's been a strange influx of tiktok influencers writing non-ficiton books. i work at a bookstore and i used to only see them in self help or business sections but they've unfortunately broken into subjects that actually require research. i tried read A Human History on Drugs for your book bingo and it had very similar issues. very broad claims, hardly any grounded research, lots of assumptions based on their own vibes. in the introduction of that one the author claimed that their expertise came from history being their special interest. its rough out here
I would hardly say "strange" is the word for it. handing a book deal to someone who already has a following and hoping those followers show up to buy the book is an old publishing gimmick; it's why there are so many ghostwritten celebrity memoirs.
we saw the same thing with YouTubers and other terminally online content creators in the heyday of the 2010s internet. Dan and Phil released two books in 2015 and 2016. the Try Guys put one out in 2019. the McElroys dropped an entirely forgettable guide to podcasting as late as 2021. there are tons of them.
so TikTokkers getting book deals is hardly surprising, nor is the fact that they're shoddily researched if they're being written by people building a platform off easily digestible and nuance-free soundbites passed off as scholarship. their publishers have no incentive to hold them to more rigorous standards if what's profitable is more of the same.
it's so fucked up and evil how I physically cannot get enough sleep during the week and then the weekend rolls around and I'm like goddddd a 4am walk sounds sooo good right now. what is my fucking problem.
Day 227/365 of listing something good I saw today:
Just recently some time ago I thought how it would be great enrichment to get a big bulk amount of some specific food item and then having to figure out how many things I can turn it into, and just today when we were visiting my boyfriend's parents, I got a permission to liberate their apple trees of some of the excessive abundance.
So going to the store, I got brown sugar, crackers, and fancy cheese. I needed the brown sugar since I'm going to make an apple cobbler later, and now for dinner I'm having brie with saltines and appy slices ^w^
Also it turns out that while the second-cheapest grocery brie goes best with the sweetness of storebought pear, the cheapest brie is just right for the tart flavour of garden apples. This is some gourmet shit.
Love how there is not a single ant here in the good and awsome things today post
Not to my knowledge. There better fucking not be.
any time i copy paste a message to send to 2 different chats i feel like such a fake ass bitch but im choosing to look at it as the digital equivalent of standing in a doorway hollering so people in both rooms can hear me
piss poor reading comprehension???? simply drink water and you will have an abundance of piss
piss rich reading comprehension
I'm flattered you say we piss on the rich
