Exalted is fun, as much fun as D&D is I can’t think of another system where it’s so straightforward to come up with a magic sword made from a fae noble that merged with a falling star that makes rainbows when swung, cuts through space and steals peoples fates!

Okay so Exalted is a fantasy rpg about mythic heroes in a world inspired by… basically every form of fantasy that isn’t western medieval, combined with a heavy focus on a mythic history.

The game has several magical metals which develop the themes of your magic artifacts. These help a LOT when it comes to building and flavouring magic items. One of these is called starmetal which is made from meteors that fall when too much magic accumulates in Fate which is written in the stars. It has themes of fate, fortune, mystery and spirits.

It’s fairies are also creatures of chaos that garb themselves in stories, have a love-hate relationship with reality and feed on dreams and virtues.

And I was thinking to myself “I really want a sword that makes rainbows!” So I thought to myself what fit that theme: Fairy gossamer (the stuff they spin into stories, entrancing appearance is kinda their thing) and starmetal (which shines with the colours of the 5 goddesses of fate).

Exalted encourages you to make magic equipment feel unqiue and have a legend built/build around them, so merging these concepts was easy. So here’s my WiP Artifact based on this for when the new edition comes out (A daiklave is just a fancy magic sword, a Raksha is a Fairy, a mote is an Exalted character’s mana and an evocation is an unlockable power for an artifact).

Iridescent Veil (Starmetal Daiklave) The raksha Iridescent Rose once journeyed into Creation and beheld all the wonderous possibilities written in the stars, falling helplessly in love with the stars and learning to master astrology, it forsaw the fall of a star and flew out to meet it, it’s gossamer form wrapping around the falling metal and merging with it. When the Sidereal Feathered Stone arrived at the fallen star’s crater he found a Daiklave embedded in the earth, it’s metal humming with joyous resonance.

Iridescent Veil’s essence now thrums harmoniously through the blade, it’s every motion is an aria of it’s love for the work of the Maidens. Following each of it’s swings is a trail of iridescent light. Base power: While attuned, on a successful Withering attack it has a fascination effect on the target as the weaving colours reveal the majesty of unrealised futures. [Evocation 1]: When making a charge you may spend a mote to move out to long range before making an attack as you cut through the space between you and your target, traveling along the rainbow streams of the attack you have yet to make. [Evocation 2]: When you hit with a successful Withering attack you may spend a mote to reveal the doomed Fate of your foe for all to see within the gossamer light that follows your attack, you gain an automatic success on attacks against the target until the end of the battle and your target has their parry reduced by [x] [Evocation 3]: When you hit with a successful Decisive attack against a target affected by [Evocation 2] you may commit a mote to allow Iridescent Veil to steal the target’s Fate and claim it as their own. [Evocation 2] ends and the target takes a penalty to their best dice pool equal to [y] and you gain an automatic success on rolls that use those abilities so long as the mote remains committed.

Note this is a WiP Artifact and Exalted Essence isn’t actually out yet so I may end up needing to revise this item. And yeah the Fae noble is doing fine they’re just happy vibin as a sword, you actually need to get to know them as you unlock their evocations.

Also Exalted is a freaking fantastic RPG setting and Exalted Essence is shaping up to be a marvelous system (That I’m following the development of like a hawk), I’m hesitant to recommend 3e’s corebook which needed a lot of editing and was way too crunchy, but Essence is setting compatible with all of Exalted third edition. It’s going to have stuff like clear rules on building stuff, running kingdoms, pursuing projects and structured social mechanics, and it is explicitly friendly towards anyone who wants to romance dragons, demons and monsters. It also rewards you with bonuses on your roll for giving cool descriptions of how you do cool stuff in play.

Also it’s very queer friendly, like most the writing team is very queer and this is reflected in setting.

(also avoid looking it up on tvtropes, 2nd edition went in some not great directions in the late 2000′s to try and be edgy and 3e has backpedaled heavily to get away from that)

This guy inspired me to repair my own macbook. First of all, you should know that I am not… like, I have to look up HOW to look up what my computer specifications are. Tech, that ware either soft or hard, is not a subject in which I experience comfort or competence. But my puppy peed on my keyboard, and I asked the apple store, or the fucking mac cafe, or the godsdamn Computer House Chill Zone or whatever cute ass name they have for their bullshit store, and they said it would be TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLARS TO REPLACE MY KEYBOARD. I’m not even exaggerating.

So I asked the internet, well how hard IS it to repair? And I saw this guy’s video, and while I am no techie, I AM fueled by spite, so I was all “oh, they do that shit on purpose specifically so they can charge me $1200 bucks or make me buy a new computer hunh? FUCK THEM” and I bought all the tools I needed for about $25 and I bought all the parts I needed for about another $25 and I watched a few tutorial videos, and I replaced my own keyboard.

So, once you are doing the actual deed, it becomes pretty obvious that they are finding creative ways to make this much harder than it has to be on purpose. On thing that stood out to me is, instead of all the tiny screws being the same size, there are about two dozen very slightly different sizes. They could easily be all the same size, or like, two sizes at most, but no.

These mother fuckers will take a panel that screws into place and they’ll use a different size screw for each corner. They are so close that you almost cannot tell them apart visually, but they each will only screw into the matching corner. Like, it’s a pretty clear “fuck you” to anyone trying to do repairs.

This is the reason Nancy Pelosi is so sensitive about political violence. It is the reason she does not trust these republican members of the house who refuse to go through the metal detectors on Capitol Hill. It is why the violent rhetoric used by republicans against her and other democrats upsets and angers her so much.

She knew these people that were assasinated. She is friends with Senator Diane Feinstein, who found Harvey Milk’s dead body, and unknowingly put her hand through one of his bullet holes trying to find a pulse. She is also friends with Congresswoman Jackie Speier who was shot 5 times in Jonestown where another San Francisco congressman, Leo Ryan, was shot and killed one week before Milk and Moscone.

Jackie Speier still has two bullets in her body from Jonestown. San Francisco city hall still has metal detectors at entrances and do bag searches because they have not forgotten that this happened, and city employees are not exempt from going through them because of Dan White. The entire city still has collective trauma from this two week period forty years ago, and it particularly effects their elected officials there.

History matters. Shared trauma matters. It should be taught and understood so it can be avoided from ever happening again.
