I’ve talked about McNabb and her injuries before. It’s makes me so fucking mad when TRAs make fun of her.

McNabb had a BRAIN BLEED as a result of her injury. She suffered permanent vision loss. This happened two years ago and she still suffers from headaches, memory loss, and confusion.

If you’re a feminist, not everything you do has to be a feminist decision. You can make the personal decision to shave or wear makeup but as a feminist, you should investigate where this desire comes from. It’s okay to be influenced and affected by the patriarchy. It’s normal to feel pressure to conform to beauty standards. To deny that you experience pressure from beauty standards is to deny beauty standards pressuring women. To say that shaving is “for yourself” may make you feel better about giving into sexist pressures but it ultimately undermines feminism as a whole.

I know this wasn’t the OP’s intent, but this comic strip truly does show where the critical social analysis stops with trans-identified females.

Like they recognize the misogyny and socialization they experienced as little girls was wrong and why it’s wrong. I’m sure the OP of this comic will be the first to tell you that it was traumatizing that she was forced to wear dresses and other clothes that prevented her from being free and active and run around and play. Then when she fought back and wore less restrictive clothes, she received harmful social feedback. That’s socialization 101.

But then the conclusion she draws is that she must not be a girl. Real girls like performing femininity, so because she rejects it that means she must be a boy instead.

It’s so close to understanding the roots of patriarchy and female socialization and misogyny. If only these people could realize that they aren’t the problem. Their personalities and rejection of femininity don’t make them men, it makes them normal women who have trauma from harmful patriarchal expectations of female humans. Just like every other woman.
