A dear friend of mine made this darling clock for me recently. I can’t wait say “oh look, it’s quarter past Morel!”
I’m so incredibly charmed.

A little break down of my idea, I really want to incorporate the individual species of wood from these different countries and unite them as one. It’s a reference to being a diaspora. We all come from one place to unite as one and we come from very different backgrounds but similar beginnings that led to us being diasporas.
I am working on designing my capstone. I wanted to do a mockup of what it might look like if I managed to get all the wood I would need to make this. Looks cool, but might be a wee bit pricey!
African Diasporas
One of the largest diasporas of modern times is that of sub-saharan Africans, which dates back several centuries. During the Atlantic Slave Trade, 9.4 to 12 million people from West Africa survived transportation to the Americas and arrived there as slaves. This population and their descendants were major influences on the culture of British, French, Portuguese, and Spanish New World colonies. Prior to the trans-Atlantic slave trade, millions of Africans had moved and settled as merchants, seamen, and slaves in different parts of Europe and Asia. From the 8th through the 19th centuries, an Arab-controlled slave trade dispersed millions of Africans to Asia and the islands of the Indian Ocean.
Currently, migrant Africans can only enter thirteen African countries without advanced visas. In pursuing a unified future, the African Union (AU) will allow people to move freely between the 54 countries of the AU under a visa free passport and encourage migrants to return to Africa.
Diaspora, populations, such as members of an ethnic or religious group, that originated from the same place but dispersed to different locations. The word diaspora comes from the ancient Greek dia speiro, meaning “to sow over.” The concept of diaspora has long been used to refer to the Greeks in
MORE RESEARCH FOR MY CAPSTONE!!!!!
Diaspora describes people who have left their home country, usually involuntarily to foreign countries around the world.
I’m going to be talking about the different areas that were affected by involuntary migration and now are called diasporas.
So, I’m thinking about creating my capstone with wooden letters. And, I want to work within specific wood types if possible. I’d like to find unique wood types that reflect certain diaspora immigrant countries.
Check it out, quite interesting video on perspectives.
This video just relates to the common troubles a immigrant can and may experience in his/her life time.
Check out this oldie, but original :)
I remember watching this when I was younger.

Check this out, quite interesting to read about the influence immigrants had on British design. Who would have thought it would have been heavily influenced.
